View Full Version : Bargains to be had?

Noticed this (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=192044185) go for a song on Trade Me last night.

Question is; Did all the intending bidders forget to catch the end of auction, or is this an indication of the tightening purse strings happening out there at present? What further bargains are to be had as the usual January credit card accounts arrive ?

He set his reserve way too low.

He put his faith in the auction system but it didn't fire for him despite 1600+ page views.
Lots of interest but apparently everybody sat on their hands at the end of auction, like I had to!:crybaby:

Crikey! He had a $1 reserve - he should probably be relieved he got more than $2.50! :pinch:

Wow... I bet we'll all be keeping a lookout on traeme now...

I think he did quite well.

The Street Triple has effectively turned the Speed Four into a heavy, obsolescent relic. Undeservedly, but that's the way it goes.

Never do a $1 reserve before Xmas...

1 month before and after...people don't have the $$$ to buy things.

Speed 4 is a smaller version of the popular speed triple.

Crap-arse it is!

I suppose it is water cooled, has two wheels & made by Triumph.

The seller has to actually sell it now, not something that is a fore gone conclusion ladies & jelly spoons.

Yes yes yes TM deals are a legal & binding contract but it means you will have to fight for it which = time & money.

Recently happened to a mate who won a K7 thou for $10,500, the seller just didn't respond. So I helped him track the SOB down, phone contact was established & the guy just flat refused to sell it at that price.

The $1 res house on TV recently? Remember that? Went for a few hundy less than its fair market value. Did he actually buy it? No, seller did a runner lol.

Don't get too excited about "cheap" items being sold on TM, not always the case.

Bollocks (to half that), the time just before Christmas is a very good time, people get holiday pay, its usually the most flush time of the year. Motor vehicle sales are usually higher prior to Christmas because of it. One of the reasons is people don't want to brake down while on holiday so they trade in the shitter. Certainly was that way when I was in game many moons ago.

Hi Boob - if this refers to the Browns Bay property recently - it did indeed sell in the end. I personally know the new owner and I was privy to the process of tracking down the seller. I cannot get into details but the transfer was eventually made but I suspect somewhat reluctantly by the seller!!!!!!!!

Gidday Alan, yep thats the one. Shit hot news for him, thats awesome. Very pleased to hear that. Shame my mate didn't pursue his one last month with the gixxer as he would of been able to glue his ass to the deal also.

Beat me to it. I would guess that the seller will wear the bad feedback rather than sell the bike for that price.

Fair comment, but from my experience there are also very motivated sellers out there from time to time. When times are tough beggars can't be choosers !

My present bike was such a case... 02 Sprint RS bought through Trade Me in mid 06 with 34,000km for $7,900.
The seller had had a change in circumstances and had to sell his pride and joy:weep:. Quick and clean sale solved his dilemma and got me a cheap bike - Win, win.

I suspect the New Year will see an increase in 'motivated' sellers. Happy hunting for those with available $s.

Here's another cheap bike.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports/auction-194536378.htm

Too good to be true i would imagine.

EDIT: Turns out it's one of those overseas scams as trademe sent me an e-mail after i viewed it. Are they not allowed to just pull the listing since they know it's a scam?

They just took the listing down. Good to see they are trying to keep on top of scams appearing on their website.

Nice going mate, well done on both those bargains. I've made money or at minimum broken even on all my vehicles in the last few years. I don't usually buy exactly what I want as I chase only good deals or I don't buy, simple rule really.

Just brought 2 bikes off TM this week, very happy with the prices.

98 DR350 with all the flash gear, exhaust, big bore engine kit, cams, big carb, airbox, mint for $1900. Others of that vintage are on there for 3k and more.
Could of got it cheaper as reserve was 1500 if someone did'nt bid against me.
Thats for me.

Brought the missus a 02 Honda XLR for $1200.

Going up to get them boxing day.

Might have to sell my Zuki SP370 as probably wont get around to doing much to it now as 6 bikes frequent the garage now.
If anyon'e interested.

Seems your prediction was accurate and somebody backed out of the deal.
And the Speed Four (http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=195357497) is back, but not with a $1 reserve this time around.

This previous listing makes it even more interesting really (can anyone say SHILL BIDDING)

Ask the seller a question

Why did the previous sale fall through? Auction 192044185 And why is the reserve higher than the winning auction price? posted by: st_gabe (87 ) 5:45 pm, Wed 31 Dec

The sale didn't go through because the bike didn't suit the lady that won the auction, so we mutually agreed to cancel the sale. I would have liked to get cash before xmas but am not to worried now. 10:36 am, Thu 1 Jan

This bike was listed and won by another member? Can you tell me why that trade could not be fulfilled? posted by: rraje (13 ) 6:05 pm, Wed 31 Dec

As above. 10:36 am, Thu 1 Jan

May I suggest you blacklist her as this is the second time she has won it. First time was auction 186040020, where she won it for $5800 on the 9th of November posted by: st_gabe (87 ) 10:43 am, Thu 1 Jan

Good excuse though really. Must be costing the guy a heap in relisting fees

 Wonder if you get an answer to that question?

Definitely confirms the shill bidding suspicions I had, and puts a great deal of doubt over the credibility of the whole auction.

St_Gabriel

 Wonder if you get an answer to that question?

The reason I asked the question is threefold

a) So that if he doesnt answer the question (which I severely doubt he will) it will be showing as an unanswered question for the whole duration of his auction (A few unanswered questions ring alarm bells for me when trading on TradeMe)

b) so that after the auction the unanswered questions are revealed and he may be exposed as the fraud which he is

c) If sold in this round and the user "Wula" (the shill bidder) has bumped up the price, the auction winner can take that as a caveat when dealing with the trader

I would love to see a few more ppl, who dont agree with these scams, ask a few pointed questions of the trader.
The part that pisses me off the most in regards to this trader is that he did a $1 reserve and wasnt wiling to abide by the markets decision, and he hasnt abided by his responsibilties as set out in TradeMe's T&C. Of course TradeMe will do nothing about it as they are getting the $68 every time he does this.
