Hey People!

I have got myself a 2008 Ninja 250R and I am wanting an alarm for it (yes, I have searched the forums before posting  ) I have got a Xena Security alarmed disc lock for it, but I have found this is far too sensitive and can go off if not set on a certain position on the disc, so I am wanting to go for a full alarm with tilt sensors etc, I was looking at the Mongoose MCA500 with remote start and tilt sensor extras. Based on the threads here, they seem to be the best option, but I am open to suggestions to other alarms that have remote start and tilt sensors plus the usual alarm accessories.

From what I have read, I believe that the remote start will work on my bike as the manual states it only requires an electric start, but other people say fuel injection is required? Mine runs on carbs, so would I be able to use the remote start? The bike will start first time anytime without using the choke (I have never had to use the choke)

Where would the best place to get the alarm including installation in the wellington region?

Thanks
David :scooter:

I installed this myself, which I bought from Jaycar:
http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=LA9020&CATID=&keywords=motorcycle+alarm&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=

Cost me $70 and an afternoon. Works really well, siren is quite loud. Sensor is adjustable, and it includes an immobiliser.

As for remote start, are you ever likely to use it?
You'd need to make the the bike is always in Neutral. One time left in gear, and you'll be looking at a bit of cash for fairing repairs.

Congrats on the chew fiddy!
My bike doesn't require any security. :D

Gubb, can you state what the anti hijacking and anti theft functions are in laymans terms? and if it is possible to get a remote start for it?

Slyer, thanks, I am happy with it as a first bike. Yeah, I just want to be on the safe side as I have put a lot of hard work into getting this bike!

Hell I bet you have, I'm slowly saving for a new bike which will be a 250r or a 650r depending on whether I have my full license by the time I have enough money! On learners now.

What colour is it?

I am only on my learners too, 1 month till I can get my restricted!

I must say the 650s are nice.

It is green, the only colour that does it justice in my mind.

I'm not a huge fan of the looks of the 2008 650's but the 2009 ones (look on the american kawasaki site) are dreamy.

Blue for me though if I ever get one!

Nah, this is on the Hyosung. Will be putting an alarm on the Striple soon though. Only issue is that there isn't so much fairing to hide the alarm and wiring.

Gubb, can you state what the anti hijacking and anti theft functions are in laymans terms? and if it is possible to get a remote start for it?
Anti-Hijack is pretty much a panic alarm, i.e. you press and hold the button, and the alarm sets off, deterring anyone that is trying to steal your bike with you on it. (kinda useless really)

Anti-theft is an immobiliser.

I had the Mongoose MCA500 whacked into my street triple with all the tilt sensors, remote start blah blah. Gubb if you wanna see how we concealed everything (tailtidy and all) I can show ya. Remote start is disabled if in gear with how its wired, but using it activates my ecu warning light and because I'd never not park my bike in gear, I simply don't use that function.

Slyer - Yes, I should have said I was refering to the 09s, they are dreamy.

Gubb - I thought that is what it mean, do you know what star rating it has?

short-circuit - I thought it would be wired in like that. Do you know why it activates the ECU light? I usually park mine in neutral if it is on a flat surface, or it is backed into a curb, otherwise it gets parked in gear.

I think it's a variation in voltage and the ecu picks this up as a fault. I think after a while it comes right but I don't really need the function anyway (surely it's just for wank factor). As I say I park in gear all the time just to be sure.

I have an alarm - well, it's a GPS unit. No point in an alarm, it just makes noise. The GPS unit means I can go find Scoot and burn the fucker's house down at the same time (violence is the answer sometimes...).

Forget about auto start (although most bikes won't start in gear). The only time that I've seen auto start makes sense is in Minnesota winters - the car is covered buy 3 feet of snow, and the car is nice and toasty by the time you shovel the snow off it.

Yes, that would be a good idea, does it actually have an alarm part to it? What is the unit that you have got and what is the price of it?

I gotta ask.

Why bother??

Cracks me up when I ride into work to find a bunch of 250's with chains through the back tyre and disc locks etc yet all the big bikes are left just with their steering locks on

If someone is going to take your bike they're going to take it. Get insurance for peace of mind. Anything else is more likely to result in damage to the bike during the attempt.

"Fuck it's got an alarm. Wanker. Lets scratch the fuck out of the tank before we run off"

or

*CRUNCH* "Haha I just fucked up the front brakes au... Dick put a lock on or something.. Better leave it eh"

:stupid: HTFU already.

Your thread? Bwaaaaaaaaaaahahaha you haven't been on the interweb long have you newbie?

I think you'll find my post was aimed at saving you money both on the alarm and on repairing your bike after someone tries to steal it. I'd say that's constructive so obviously your reading comprehension could do with improvement.

I hope you don't have the same attitude when people try to help your learner butt ride properly........ :bash:

Bike alarms were all the rage in the late 80's,but a few problems surfaced with the ones with ignition cut.A few riders lost their lives when the module failed and cut the engine causing loss of control.I used to work in the city and have seen a harley put on the back of a truck and driven away---with alarm and indicators going off, but if you feel better with a alarm then good for you.

Please show me where I ridiculed anyone *before* *I* was told to fuck off.

It's my genuine opinion it's not worth the hassle and have heard of too many cases of people just damaging the bike then leaving.

And please don't tell me it's the bit about laughing at the mega secured 250's in the carpark at work. It's some funny shit when you see a GN or 250r all secured to the max in a bike park full of flash bikes with no security on them. I mean what would you steal? The GN or the R6...?
