Honda Jade - opinions?

I'm looking for a second commuter bike (so I don't have to fight with the missus) and a '91 Honda Jade seems like a reasonable choice

CBR250 engine / transmission
Naked
Light

Opinions please.

O for awesome. Gear driven cams = long life motor. A kber has 110000km on hers and it's still strong. Like a hornet but cheaper.

So apart from checking for general movement / slack (fussy gear changes, forks and seal condition, steering head tightness) and engine burning oil - anything specific I should look for?

She is the Jade owner from above.

Ask the cbr250 owners what the std engine problems are.
Being a naked bike, most other issues should be easy to spot.

Usual fork seals, suspension linkages, brakes.

Do you know if the instrument cluster on a Jade is the same as the CBR250 / Hornet? One I'm looking at is busted and wondered if a compatible transplant was available... might start another post in the appropriate maintenance thread.

No engine problems, just check oil and change regularly with a decent semi-synth and you'll be happy with the results. Check valve clearances every 30,000k's. That's it.

I had a written off CBR250 that I bought for $2500AUD to race in Aussie and it had a problem with the gearbox, would find false neutrals, and had a huge deal of trouble getting second. I'm guessing it was a bent fork selector possibly from accident damage. Still won races and prize money on that bike.
