How do I remove this Centrifugal clutch?

Does this nut do up clockwise?
Stick screwdriver through holes to jam housing up, undo nut anti-clockwise, and then just pull the clutch shoes out?

Cheers.
Racey.

Never done one of them but would hazard a guess at unclip c-clips put it in gear with a 4/2 through the back wheel and undo nut.Fwiw i wouldnt be sticking a screwdriver in there to hold it but then again as i said i havent done one before though have replaced a few baskets etc. Then again we have been doing the boxing day piss-up thing so it may pay to check.

Thanks for your thoughts.
The old bit of wood throught the back wheel doesn't want to work, as these clutches don't engage the rear drive till at speed.
But yes - the screw driver through the hole idea does have it's risks.

Why is it called a centrifugal clutch, when there's no such thing as centrifugal force?

Rotation clockwise in the pic, or anticlockwise?

And is that a splitpin I see lurking inside the nut?

Why is it called a centrifugal clutch, when there's no such thing as centrifugal force? Why is an FJR1300 named such a thing when browsing the spec sheet theres nothing relevant. No offence intended Hitch, just bored and and doing the boxing day piss up thing with friends/family,awaiting the friends wives and family to fuck off so we can get serious about the day.

Rotation of the clutch is anti-clockwise in operation.

No pins there.

In that case the nut *should* be RH, (undo anticlockwise)

Those two holes may take a pin wrench, or a reasonable approximation thereof.

Have you already removed that LH spring?

Put simply,a rattle gun and undo in the direction of rotation of crank.:done:

we have a lettle ktm mx bike and it looks similar.
we put a screw driver through the hole you see on base inbetween the shoes and the other gear you see to the left.
it locks up fine and we have never damaged anything.
then take off the nut and the shaft is tapered so we have a little puller that screws into where you have 2 holes on the ( kick start gear is it ?)
and pull it off.
works sweet everytime.
and the nut on our bike is just normal rotation, clockwise to screw in.

LH spring removed itself - hence the trying to get clutch apart.

This is a 50cc LEM motor, which I'm told, is the same or simlar to KTM.
I do have some pullers and will go looking for 'dhunts' rattle gun.

Thanks.

Got it off.
Contrary to normal wisdom, the nut came off clockwise despite the clutch working anti-clockwise.
Found the rattle gun, but no socket would fit the end of nut, which is just a spanner job.

and for the sake of other internet users doing a search for the same info
the bike is a LEM LX2 50

Thanks for the input folks.

Any lock tabs/pins/nuts involved?

All back together, and working as it should. :calm:

Nope, no pins/clips/tags/lock tight, just the nut.

did you torque the nut up?
i found with lukes bike if i didn't torque to the required 25 ft pounds it would eventually come loose enough to cause slippage which is a bad thing for the ol clutch shaft i found.

Not exactly

Used thee old - that 'feels like' 25.2 foot pounds on the spanner technique.

will run it for an hour and recheck it.

Thanks.

just use a FBH...

All Right then. Seen I'm here.... Whats a FBH?

Good advise... that should have been listened to.

Got five minutes out of it before the nut come loose - wearing a hole through the outer caseing.

Learn as ya go.

Not sure how I'm going to fit something on the nut to torque it as it's not a socket end, just two flats that a cresant fits.

FBH is a type of big hammer. Loctite should hold it in place, maybe 222 or perhaps something stronger. I have used hemp string down the sparkplug hole to lock the engine while undoing nuts or bolts.

There is a centrifugal acceleration from a centripetal force.
