Boxing Day Wanganui that is.

The idea is that the pictures that follow depict KBers in action (of one sort or another). Some like Dr Robert, Shaun, and other 'Naki homies I know but most of the rest involve some guesswork...

My first time at Cemetary Circuit, and it was cool and worth the numb bum :(. Well organised, things kept moving along well and the action was non-stop (well compared to the TT that is). Good job.

Took some photos: some good, most bad. See if you recognise anyone/yourself. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24534035@N03/sets/72157611666702330/

Pretty sure I got a couple of good ones of Shaun (DSC04133 and DSC04134)...nice helmet BTW:shifty:...and Glen Williams on the silver SV650 (DSC04064), plus one of Andrew Stroud on the Britten ( DSC04231, DSC04232).

Enjoy.:2thumbsup

a much better day this time round! the crowds were huge, and the bridge was a real asset. made the track crossings when the gates were open smaller and didnt hold the racing up as long.

got some video of black beauty and the britten and will upload to youtube when i get some time. bought a britten hat from suzuki and got it signed by both earl bamber and stroud... gonna give it to dad for his birthday, lol.

got some video of black beauty .

Sorry to disappoint... and be picky, but it was a Toyota and not black beauty doing the Demo....

My only gripe for the whole day is,"What the F was the 4x4 doing parading in front of Earl Bamber on his demo laps for?
I'm sure Earl can work out where the track goes......

It would be like a man with a flag walking in front of Stroud on the Britten.....

Other than that, I spent the whole day in the esses, and wow, a few bins in there. Lucky no injuries at that part of the track.
The bikes were fair flying through there. The 600's were really hard to recognise, and it wasn't until the last race that I could tell which one Sparkybills was on.....

It was a mission just to get him to do that.

The permit from Motorsport NZ had him restricted to no more than 100kph, no stopping (for burnouts etc etc) and he had to follow a course car, which of course only did 60kph.

Before he went out we were all quite worried it was going to look a bit stupid, because the TRS cars arnt supposed to go that slow, and when they do, they bunny hop along and such, but since it was detuned etc for the occasion, it seemed to go around quite smoothly.

I can tell you Earl was keen as for some burnouts, doughy's etc etc, but if he did he risked not getting a permit from Motorsport NZ to do any demo runs in the future in A1GP car, shame really.

It was my first day ever attending bike racing and it was a interesting experience, you guys must be all mad to try that stuff!!

Ahhh,
Thanks for that.....
All I will say is in the esses he was pretty much bunny hopping.
The 4x4 has more body roll than Dawn French, and the Toyota just wanted to GO!
It would have looked impressive....

What it did do was give me a great opportunity to get a birds eye view photo of the car.... something that was impossible with the bikes.... even Slighty and Stroudie doing their demos were too quick for the position I was in.... and I'm no professional photographer.

Anyhow samzbob, welcome to Kiwibiker, and I guess you have a new found respect for the leather clad fraternity.

Yep, we may be a little nuts, but my desire to get a post classic racer or something has been rekindled.... despite witnessing some very big offs....
Let me remember:
Youshi, Gareth Jones, and Jason Narin. Hope all your bumps and bruises mend okay.

Also, the guy who left a huge scorch mark on the bales.... Very lucky!

Oh for sure, usually watch the Moto GP on television, but it was my first live bike event, and what a blast it was, loved i think it was the classic sidecar, with the dude that gets it crossed up almost every corner, was great fun, Earl was saying he was like Wanganui's Burt Munroe and sleeps with his bike etc lol.

Totally different atmosphere trackside aswell, and will definately go along to some more events in future, was quite tempted to go to Taupo actually.

I think in terms of participating ill stick to being surrounded by roll cage and 4 wheels, but i really enjoyed watching the bikes.:2thumbsup

I said to one of the riders and his swinger while they were checking out our car on the dummy grid, that theyre nuts, i just got a laugh for a reply!!

Also got a snap of Andrew Stroud after Earl left on his run

Definitely Slight. Looked like a street version of the bike too, complete with headlights and road numberplate and tail light holder etc, so presume it wasn't Shirrifs' bike (nor the Sherrif's bike - if there was such a person at Wanganui).

that aint standard dude ,the engine has had lots of work, most of the 450s in S2 are not standard, as are most of the motards in S1 are not standard the motard scene seems very very fucked up in regards to permissable entries vs the rulebook.

Toby is awsome to watch, even though puddle jumpers on tracks are not my cup of tea, here in NZ, we only really have guys with Dirt bikes on the track, as WE are tight arse Kiwi's, and they are cheap, but Toby rides them like they are supposed to be ridden:Punk:

Bollocks yourself! I love an intellectual discussion

All I said was that both riders pictured were admirable performers and I still think so. I didn't say there were no other good performances.

I don't know when I was last at Wanganui, I seem to recall that John Boote (sp?) might have been riding a 750 Yamaha. The general standard of presentation by all and sundry: bikes, leathers, and pit accommodations was something of a revelation to me. Not just the supported riders either, a gargre with big screen TV playing what appeared to be replays of the last sessions bike cam? Y'all can be pleased with yourselves

From the viewpoint of a spectator the meeting seemed well run so I hope everybody is happier than they were last year.

#61 Hayden Fitzgerald on Honda NZ CBR1000 Superbike if youse didn't already know.

Jeez Chop, you know how to do it hard don't ya?
Remember, back in oh I think 1990ish, Chris Haldane smashed his collarbone when the Britten broke on him while testing it only a few days before the Nats that year.
They rigged a pad on the tank of his BP sponsored YZF750 and he won the championship.

Maybe some more hard bastard heroics required.
But how does a wrist work if the ligaments are broken???

Later
