This sounds like fun.
I see fire extinguishers are required for this ride. Might try and get down there for a day.

Where do you buy those mini fire extinguishers from?! Mitre 10 have em?

xxblackbirdxx
30th December 2008, 12:18
they usually sell them at the events, I bought mine from a trail ride but my friends have picked them up from repco or supercheap . I have a spare one Vazza . Let me know if you want me to bring it along for the event.

Have a look in the Desert Storm thread. I posted a link to some. $20/each.
I ordered 3 and got them delivered. They turned up about 3 days later.

So, are new tracks opened up on Saturday?

xxblackbirdxx

I was speaking to Greg power at the trail ride and he didnt suggest anything to that effect. So i believe its going to be the same tracks for both days. However the friday ride will stretch on for longer in the evening than the saturday one.
Just checked the Met service and there is heavy rain forecasted for saturday. I reckon friday is the day for me...and saturday is for the guys who love the slippery stuff and like a challenge

Don't think we will make this ride but can still be hopefull. Can someone tell me the best place to mount the extinguishers required for many of the trail rides????

I've got mine attached to some bits on the front of my camal-pak thing. I also wear body armour with back protection so should be ok if I fall.

Other than that most tape them to the front fender, but a few fall off like that.

the ones we use have a bracket which we have drilled 2 small holes thru the front guard for mounting bolts. then just a cable tie or a bit of tape to make sure the extinguisher doesnt come out of the cradle on the rough stuff.

so far no damaged guards.

I have taped my extinguisher to the crossbar pad onthe handlebar. It sits fine there and i've never had any problem with it being there. You need to watch that it dosen't interfere with the cables. No bad experiences so far but others may have something to add to that. I like the idea of bolting it to the front fender with the provided clamp for mounting.

It was wet, sloppy, slippery as hell greasy lot a people went home early hill climbs where pretty tuff due to the weather. Other wise appart from smaking head on fence post and smasing my knee on something and putting kick start right through boots ( I need new ones now) was a good day out .

Wot barty said....

The morning wasn't too bad but by 2pm the surfaces were as greasy as hell and I was not getting up slopes that I had earlier, Hopefully it will dry out for tomorrow but otherwise it's good tyres and be prepared to give it heaps to get through some of those uphills.

On a side note, the clay colour goes well with KTM orange, I have about 50kgs of the stuff if anyone wants some.

Well we checked out the ride today and it was a minter. Lots of dragon flies around too which was kinda interesting. You don't get many in Auckland.

Anyway, did 3 loops and checked out some of the expert tracks too. Some really nice views from the FFM loop I think it was called. Decided it would be best if I avoided 'suicide drop'.

Awesome, sounds like you had a good time. Did you manage to check out the GNCC route!? Or is it the same?

krad_nz
3rd January 2009, 20:21
No idea if I didn't part or all of the GNCC loop. :innocent:

Well I had a bit of a bum ride due to dodgy breaks and a dodgy clutch (started out okay but got worse through the day) probably shouldn't have gone out with the bike like that but I wanted one last blat before work starts on monday :weep:
It was pretty cool though. Some slipperyness, but not too bad. Made it over everything (after a few goes), we were doing the yellow/reds. Was forced to take a scenic detour home from krad and his bro my second/last time attempting to go out because the clutch was slipping and was making hideous noises when I tried to go quick, just nana'd along the flat roady stuff, at least there was nice stuff to look at!
Poor little bike is going to bike hospital on monday, I've been a bit mean to it.
