Well I’m still reliving it, I do love that track, despite those rather dodgy patches on the best corners.
I turned up wanting to psych DaveD on his very fast Derbi by putting the full fairing on my 50. Only to match up & see his with one on it.
I never got near him in practise so I wasn’t sure exactly where I was at. To confuse things the timing was a bit loose & DaveD supposedly posted a 1:22 on his 50. Yeah right. But then later I was awarded a 1:23 which wasn’t particularly likely either.
The GP itself was a bit of a doddle. DaveD’s bike got a good start but later was overheating & he didn’t finish. None of this I was aware of, once out front I just put my head down & went for it. No point finding out someone is as fast as you or faster & blowing an early advantage. From a few laps in I realised I was pretty much alone & copped a look. Nuttin. But figured I best just keep going at a reasonable pace, when you slack off is often when you fall off + I was enjoying myself & making up for the mistakes I’d been making in practise, this was to help in the races the next day. With the times I was doing I would have ended up in 3rd in the F4GP.
The next day we were all mixed in with the F4 & 150 streetstocks. Amusingly due to timing issues I found myself on front row, hoho! Still I needed every bit of help as the 50 gets murdered off the starts by bigger bikes. First race I managed to get through the mess early & found myself catching TZ350 on his GP125. After some tussles & a bit of a dive or two I managed to get ahead only to be blitzed on the straights. After a bit of a time I broke free. Ended up 6th. Bet a few of the 150s would be pissed to realise a 50 was midpack in their race.
Next race I got a worse start & was 6th on the grid. This time Rob got held back so I was passed him quicker & then had 3 150s to contend with. Took a few laps to break them but they were slowing me up down the hill for sure. Wasn’t ‘that’ far behind Rick when Trudes fell off, but I was never going to be in contention with him or the other 150s. Pity I didn’t have my old F4. Actually I think my H100 might have been enough of the business.
Either way for sunday I got 1st F5 & if they had been taking points I would have 2nd F4 & ~ 5th or 6th overall. Not bad for an old man on a tiddler.
Bring on next year.:jerry:
