Don't think this has been polled before - according to the search machine anyway...

So how far can you go on a tank of gas? Post details if you can be bothered....

My 675...225-250, on my 955i 300-340KMS, depends on how i am riding though. Some does i am forever filling up!

The VStrom - around 300 - 360 kms depending on type of riding.

My RE5 120 - 140 kms at legal road speeds. 160 if I really ride it hard.

Just rode from Auckland to Queenstown on a BMW R1200RT tourer.

Riding with an adult pillion and luggage, the bike would hit reserve at 480km and still had about 90km in reserve. So the total range was around 570km. According to the bike computer, the trip average speed was around 85km/h and the average fuel consumption was around 5 liters/100km.

Fuel tank capacity is 27 litres.

Beemer 350-400kms 23 litres
Ducati 240-280 17.5 litres

I think a better thread would be how many kilometers / litre.

Oh. I forgot about my Ducati MH900e. Makes for a good comedy option compared to the BMW!

It has an 8.1 litre tank and gets 130km before the fuel warning light comes on.

'90 GPX 250 gets about 300k's before hitting reserve (14L to fill from there). Never run out of reserve - & don't plan on it!

Up to about 200 kms on the Husky 610sm.

Not entirely sure, but if I rode sensibly I suspect I could do at least 250 kms on the 750. It certainly has a better fuel economy than my old 250 at open road speeds...

Never run out of gas on either of my bikes, but the light on my Hyper comes on about 160km after using 10/12 litres and my XT660X at 210km after 10/15 litres.

I think a better thread would be how many kilometers / litre.

Not in this case Anthrax - I am specifically interested in distances between refuelling stops - which is relevant when touring...km/l doesn't tell me that.

I get 270 to 300 (never ran the VTR out - having no reserve...)!

I'm surprised at the difference in consumption between pootling along at 105... and pootling along at 125 over the same road - top gear all the way - for a whole tank. Reasonably comparable excepting the speed.

18.5km/l down to 16.5km/l.

Aaaa well - as my old boss used to say - if you keep a lot of horses... you have to feed 'em!

I have a 17ltr tank, and normaly refill every 200-245km, I could get a little further. But for some detail on economy, my last big day ride covered some 1350km and the bike was fairly frugal. click on link to see it bigger

Have had 358 from the Connie on a good day and with at least a litre to spare (22L tank). The VTR is still a bit of an unknown but definitely is thirstier - usually looking for gas at 240km or less (19L tank).

Once put 19.8L into a 20L Bandit tank - no worries, still had 200mls left...

21 litre tank on the Sprint which usually gets a refill soon after the warning light comes on at 3 litres to go and that's usually in the high 300's.
Possibly nudge 450 if I ran it to the bitter end

On my BMW R1200GS Adventure, 36 litre tank (was 33 but 10-second mod takes it up to 36), ridden not exceeding 120 km/h, 650 km. Chch to Te Anau without the low light coming on.

Hmmm at about 290 the little yellow fuel light lights up on the 'Busa...don't trust the speedo though , especially on my bike where 100kms indicated is probably closer to 94.

For the record I had a new Camry 220 a few years ago and managed a long trip to Dunedin and back and with the petrol light scaring the shi.t out of me pulled over and filled up. 880 kms on a tank (70 liters) ...that was cool :) = 7.95 l/100kms

Just did a test on the R65 - it went onto reserve at 304km,but filled up with 18.5 litres,on a 22 litre tank.So that's 4 litres of reserve,a bit much really. So it should go to around 380km without leaving me stranded.

I picked the the 350 to 400kms on the Kwak.

I once did Te Puke to Gisborne via the Cape in one hit thanks to my fuel stop going south at Te Araroa. I was deep onto reserve when I got to Gissy at night 430 kms later. That was on 98 fuel and nursing the throttle from the Cape was not the way I wanted to ride it.

Coming home from the Burt Munro, I had to switch to reserve at 101 miles, 162km. Using reserve would prolly get another 20km.

Not really an issue, though. Only used reserve once on a South Island tour.

I get to about 250 and really start looking for a petrol station. I have never hit reserve and I don't have a light that comes on so I would presumably cough and splutter then have to find the reserve switch. I'm at 276 at the moment and can't decide whether to fill tomorrow or just take a fuel can and find out the distance the baby VTR can do.

The Firestorm (2002) has a 19LT tank depends on my riding if at legal speeds 100kph then 250(ish) km's to the tank

If riding at around 120-130 then 200(ish) Km's to tank.

Hard riding can be as low as 150km's

Our Tiger's fuel light usually comes on at just over 200 miles from full.

Fill usually takes about 18 litres, so that should mean about 6 litres left in the 24 litre tank. (96)

We have travel from Otematata to Oamaru (60miles/100km) with the fuel light having just lit up upon leaving home!

Not recommended: I do not like riding with my ringpiece clenched hard onto the seat!!! :sweatdrop

I/we usually need food and toilet stop by the time the light comes up, so the bike can go further than we can these days!

We think the Tiger comfort is a as good or better than any previous bike we have ridden or owned. (there have been a few)

Recently geared up from 18 to 19 tooth front sprocket and there seems to be a noticable increase in the fuel range.

Haven't done an actual test yet but last time fuel light came on it was well over 200 miles from full. :ride: Hopefull, John.

1990 Bandit toof-iddy gets about 190-200 if I ride all nice like.
usually fill her up about 13L at 180k's on the trip.
She's a thirsty bitch, but might need a few twiddling minutes spent with the carbs or sommat?

330k's riding sensibly before hitting reserve (home to jacksons)still leaves about 7l of reserve though
Now I've put on a smaller rear sprocket and knoblies it's not so flash, around 280-290 before reserve ( and I don't ride quite so sensibly)

Normally 220-230km on my supermoto, but I will start looking around 200, as just a bit more enthusiasm, and she starts sucking gas like a hooker getting a bonus.

Theoretical range would be around 285km (with my fuel economy figures) but I ain't gonna test that. Carrying an extra 5L odd of fuel on a holiday, just to be safe...

15 litre tank - get 26 km/litre commuting so warning light comes on at 290 km (4 litres remaining) therefore another 100 km remaining = 390 km.

Touring improves mileage by up to 5km/l = 31 lm/l x 15 = 465 (on a perfect day). Whenever I go out with mates, they all have to stop way before I do, so I've never gone more than 375 km.
One slow ride from Hammy to Paihia, in heavy traffic saw me doing the 375 km before warning light on - 370/11=33.6 km/l, which gives a theoretical (but totally unrealistic) 505 km range.

Happy New Year SF,

I'm hitting about 220km on my VL250 at the moment. It's still very much the commuter bike at the moment which means a lot of Auckland traffice (and drivers etc). I need to get it on the open road once I have some time.

Reckon if I cut down the beer and pies I might just get another 50k's, what ya reckin?

I think a better thread would be how many kilometers / litre.

Not really, when I'm considering buying a bike it's the tank range I'm really interested in.

If you are doing any touring a minimum range of 300k is desirable. OK, I know people probably tour motards and Harleys but they need to get off the bike when they've done 100k anyway

The Hornet had useful range, and the VFR holds 22l. I do need to work out what mileage I'm getting currently but I should be able to get from New Plymouth to Christchurch with just one refill. I normally do two because there's less tension that way...

I constantly get 160 miles out on the main tank (12 litres) on the CBR when using it on the road. I made it drink that in 88 miles when rapping around Manfeild.

The best return I have got from it was the Coast to Coast the other weekend. 4.8l/100k over the 350k's I did two-up too....

Smooth riding is the key to economy. The Training day on the 2.2k Taupo track helped heaps! Incidentally I managed to get 140 miles out of the tank around there too.

WOW! For a 250cc 14km/l seems really low, riding it hard?

On my 400cc I get anything from 23km/l to 29km/l and typically can get over 300kms from the 13.5l tank. If I rode ~90kph I would average higher, but I tend to be closer to ~110kph on the open road, impatient bastard (impatient, but sick of speeding tickets) that I am.

The Busa runs pretty constant at 15-16km/l, seems more economical at around 4000rpm than it is at 3300rpm, even more so at 4500rpm, but that's in licence losing territory

Usually fill up after 240-250kms, when the reserve light starts coming on, having used approx 12litres of 95/96.

Therefore, technically, 340kms range on a 17l tank @ ~20km/litre. I'm happy with that, esp. as the YZF750R I had previously fuppin well drank the stuff (max 12km/l from what I recall:doh:)

BMW K1200LT - 2000 model

I have done 560km on a tank (23.5 litres). The low fuel light came on at this point, so thats an extra 52km for a theoretical range of 610km.

Caveats: This was in summer at high altitude, both things which increase fuel milage considerably on fuel injected bikes. Also, over 320km of this was 2-up with lotsa luggage. It was freeway riding, but a lot of climbing/descending, heavy traffic (on/off throttle).

Overall, the LT can reliably and repeatedly get 435km to a tank in warm weather before the low light comes on, and that isn't babying it along.

Scoot has a few bits and bobs to make her rastier - and she doesn't run that well under about 3,000 rpm. So I tend to ride her in a gear higher (or two) than I should.

On a GSXR1000, you'd be really surprised how little throttle you actually use. It has a fat wave of torque pretty much everywhere, so it's not like I'm riding around with it pinned wide open...

On the track, you can hear a funny metallic noise, like someone crushing a coke can, and if you look down, you can see the sides of the tank moving in as you open the throttle... :pinch:
