A w/e @ the TRRS
Summary,
bloody awesome event, relaxed and well organised with only a couple of minor problems.
The trip there and back along with the racing... is a longer story.
on the road,
Left on xmas day for Welly were the Skunks put us up, a couple a beers with some of the locals and we hit the sack. Up the next day and drove to Wanganui to watch the street racing, caught up with a few old faces then carried on to Taupo.
Saturday TRRS, practice and grid placings
Mint day and the track was screaming for some action. Went out on the bucket, great fun I could see this was going to be good. Was getting faster in the 2nd timing practice aiming from 3rd fastast lap time for 2nd... then an almighty clatter and loss of propeled forward motion, clutch in, hand up and a wee wait then a push back to the pit.
The Rod broke and poked its sorry wee arse out the crank cassing... so thats all folks, disappointing cos I specially built this bike for the NZ F4 GP running that arvo.
Out on the RD350LC in posties and found the track trickier on a bigger bike. I was sliding badly on the last turn on bloody white marks for the cars, other than that slowly got faster, I managed 6th fastest lap time..
The F4 and F5 NZ GP's were ran and it was great fun watching from up on the grand stand, man we make them small POSer's haul arse, congrats to the winners, and the F4 winner was the guy I was hanging with in practice... but thats how it goes.
After racing the TRRS crew put on a bloody awesome spit and BBQ even supplyed north Is beers *shudders* was a sweet way to end the day.
Back to the motel for some real beers (austrian) and soak in the spa over looking the lake.
Sunday racing,
As we had left the bikes in the locked up pits which are a must in the heat we simply had breakie and went back track side. Now with the heat on in the post classic races as a few big block bikes had shown up for the day meant i did struggle with the RD. I was in grid 6 which was 2nd row back but some anoying riders disobyed the grid line up and forced 6 abreast not the allocated 4 in row 2, I ended up in line 3 and on launch which I am good at had to brake hard after dumping the clutch as there was no gap for me to rocket through due to row 2 fuck up.
Any hows struggled a bit loosing a few places and having some beaut slides on the last corner, to be honest I lost a lot of confidance so in race 2 I just took it easy but had a great battle with another 350LC, an old retard and CB350.
Race 2 was up for the buckets and Trudes was on Kendogs beast, so I offered my riding abilitys to Trudes bike Pamela numbered DD.
Hell it cant be all that bad as Pammy wore my own initals as a race number and she does look tidy.
However being told a few stories and having a sit on pam noticing that the front felt worse that a over weight Harley I had 2nd thoughts... ahhh fuk it on with the KB shirt and away we went.
Hmmmmm... warm up was scary, this bike bent, twisted and did shit I have never felt a bike do before ahhh shit this wasnt going to be tidy. Flag drops and and away we go, talk about shitting my self but as the race went on I was getting to grips with Pam passing bikes and battling it out with an FXR, maybe it was the can of redbull I sank before the race that had me humming... ya know what? It was fucking fun taming that wild thing, bucket racing as it was.
Anyhows, the red was waving 2/3s into the race so I knew the fun was over... well almost. Another 3rd of the track I saw Trudes sunbathing in the middle of the track, (welly peops do some odd stuff at times) it turned out another rider clipped her, arsing her up on the spot so with a huge roar of a down shift I locked Pammie up on the grass and dumped her on the deck.
Sorted Trudes out, winded and a tad sore then remounted Pam and wheelied off for a lap of honour on Truds behalf. (was funny being the only bike out there and everyone watching not sure if I was imbarrassed or loving it)
BBQ and beer time courtesy of TRRS prize giving which I missed out on and then packed up and pissed off to the motel.
Cruise home...well comming into Woodville I lost the ability to down shift, bloody farking shitty Nissans. Noticed I could use 2nd and 4th so continued to Welly pissing a few motorists off. Was put up for the night by Paul n NZ and Vicky, awesome people and the time was great.
On the ferry, then off again at Picton and was getting the hang of driving with 2 gears. Was out passing when CRUNCH clatter clatter... OHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOO.
Pulled over and found I could get rolling in 4th and once the box wasent loaded the noises eased up. Made it home safe n sound and thinking about next years TRRS
All up... farking good w/e with the TRRS, their organising was second to none no stress relaxed and all 99% flowed nice. IMHO I reckon more flaggies needed on the track and them white lines need a special grippy paint used like the greymouth street race does.
The track was fun hard fast and full on, a good change from the usual but bloody hard work, the pits is great I wana come back.
Had a good time meeting new KBers and catching up with old faces, this event was a mint place social wise as well as track time. Taupo is a lovely spot and the surrounding roads magic.
