Is there some virus going around the states that makes bands forget to stay away from historical rock songs? Or blatant song rip off's which also slaughter the song? Kid rocks latest one fits this bill

hmm, I'll see your Comfortably Numb covered by the Scissor Sisters, and raise you...

Light My Fire, covered by Massive Attack FFS. Almost worth doing a double van Gogh and cutting both your ears off

Maybe not a cover, but the song by Kid Rock grates me...that one that ruins Lynyrd Skynyrds "Sweet Home Alabama"

madonnas american pie is fucking awful.Madonna's Vogue is a fucking awful rip-off of Malcolm McLaren's Deep in Vogue. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a cover, as I'm sure the lawyers would be quick to point out, especially as it was only released 18 months later.

Never mind the Scissor Sisters, there's a reggae band doing covers of Floyd etc that is mostly cringeworthy. (Dread Zeppelin?)

After wandering into this thread and progressing through the respective post I feel the need to head to my Doctors as it appears my ears are bleeding, I cant hear much either.

My god some folks just don't know when to quit do they, I wonder what goes through their heads, is it, they get told no you cant sing, so they decide they need a bigger audience, and it grows from there till they get themselves on youtube for the whole world to repeat they cant sing.

They are either driven and determined or stubborn and sh^t headed, more the latter I think.

There's hope for us all eh - I'm gonna start a band. I can't play any instruments or sing but I don't see that that should be an issue eh?

Well I dont see how it can be given some of the umm dubious covers seen here, perhaps at least take oh say 2 lessons in how to play your instrument of choice and then you are off to a better start or perhaps you could just

And of course the man himselfs (Bowie) Disco version of John I'm only Dancing?

for all you haters

On September 10, 2005 Lynyrd Skynyrd performed without Johnny Van Zant at the Music Relief Concert for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, with Kid Rock standing in for Johnny. In December of 2005, Johnny Van Zant returned to sing for Lynyrd Skynyrd.

from wiki

So who else is better to cover/mix a song that someone the band likes enough to stand in for them when the lead singer couldnt.
