Radar detectors, Help needed?

What is a good brand that works with radar and photo bird boxes? I had a radar detector before and it was pants! I'd now like to buy one that works.

Any help would be great.

Thank you.

The "SEARCH" button is your friend.
It has been done to death on here and the same results apply.

Bel STi or Valentine 1.
The bird box will either need a detector with a GPS unit inside (yes, they do make them) or simply keep your eyes open.

Bel Sti, Valentine V1, Escort 8500 or 9500 are all very good.

None of them will indicate the fixed speed cameras though. Fixed speed cameras do not work on radar.

I really rate the RX65, great long-range detection of patrol cars, not quite as good as the V1 at picking up mobile cameras - but those vans are usually easy to spot anyway. It very rarely falses too.

As has probably been said all the other times, you pay for what you get.

In my opinion if you wanna save yourself money on tickets then you need to be looking at detectors over $500, generally over $800. Love my STI.

In saying that, the cheaper ones will certainly stop you getting tickets since they go off every time you pass a automatic door :) YOu just get annoyed having to slow down all the time. And you won't get that much warning with a cheaper one so you just need to have your brakes ready. Easy LOL.

Watch out for parrellel imports which are cheaper. They're not set up for NZ conditions so don't work as good.

V1 ALL THE WAY. DONT BUY CHEAP RUBBISH, THERE'S A REASON ITS CHEAP, ITS RUBBISH!!
And money box on a stick works on cables in the road, bikes are pretty safe though as they usually face your nose not tail and well lookey here I didn't put my rego plate on the front.
If your still scared of the buggers just drive around the octogon in the road.

WRONG ..... that's a myth/lie that local sellers produce to frighten you away from importing at a cheaper price. Imported models have a couple more bands working, than are used by Police here in NZ. Simply a matter of turning off the bands that aren't used here, to reduce some false alarms. I believe all decent detectors allow you to do that.
An imported detector will be as effective/ineffective as any bought locally.

I'm just speaking of my experience. Same models, different country origins. NZ/Oz model worked better.

I know some imported models are fine though. Buyers choice in the end.

Beltronics RX65 Radar Detector

I used to have one until I upgraded to the STi.
The RX65 is a good detector on the hawk and car units. Not as hot on the camera vans though.

Don't believe the bullshit about "tuned for nz conditions". Marketing bullshit.

Thats why you also have a GPS with custom points of interest, that include all fixed locations, and common sites of cop cars shopping for clients :msn-wink:
