View Full Version : Kiwi Bikers. What's happening to this site?
beyond
2nd January 2009, 20:05
I've been a member of Kiwibikers now for just on three years.
At all times I have been ready to answer peoples questions, to
share my knowledge of riding and generally to be as approachable
and inoffensive as I can be. I have offered my help when it
has been asked for and have always been ready to give tips to
those who asked for them or I could see, needed them.
As you know, I have shared my good and bad experiences and
unfortunately been villified for some of them. I have
also gone to the trouble of editing and making videos to
share with others around the world, our roads, the joys
of motorcycling and highlighting the attributes of the
Suzuki GSX1400.
I have only ever received one red rep and you don't have to
guess for long where that came from.
My understanding was that Kiwibikers was an open forum where
you could share any experience to do with motorcycling and
get help, aid where needed, positive feedback and of course
the odd good natured ribbing as well as share your experiences
so that others could learn.
Unfortunately of late I have found myself the centre of
ridicule, of being putdown, my riding skills called useless
and generally made to feel a worthless piece of shit.
There are many on Kiwibikers that I consider friends who
have stood by me and defended me but I say here and now
it should never have come to that anyway. I appreciate these
fine people and value the relationship we have built up and
always will.
This site has become very judgemental and people are regularly
put down. Can I ask, why is it that someone considers their
own viewpoint to be right and everyone else is wrong? Why should
a minority group effectively cause the demise of what was and
could be an awesome forum? Threads are turned into slinging
matches on a regular basis.
You can brow beat someone and harp on about things as much
as you like but you will never stop a mountain climber climbing
mountains the way they see fit, or an extreme mountain boarder
descending a slope the way they do it personally and you will
never stop a motorcyclist from riding the way they do becuase
you happen to disagree about how they ride.
What is safe to them may never be for you and vice versa.
You will note that as much as I enjoy producing videos and
not for the sake of ego either, that they have now all been
removed from Youtube and I may never produce another one.
Many of said I'm a cock, that I ride the way I do because
I have a small weiner and that I have issues with ego.
Not so on all counts but this here character has been pushed
to the edge and I've about had enough.
If this site is to continue with the posts of caring and
sharing people interested in seeing new motorcyclists
grow, then things need to change or soon this site will
be left with the backstabbers, the backbiters, the know
it alls and people who just want to be abrasive and care
not who they hurt or piss off.
I could go on but that about sums it up, except to say unless
things change, my posts will become very infrequent or non
existent. I know already that some are clapping their
hands and planning a party over this announcement.

Having been a member for just over a month myself i have found KB to be a very diverse place with many unique inputs, some are worth more than gold, others less than dirt. Beyond, it is sad to hear that you have been treated this way, im sure there would be many people who would miss your experiences and wisdom. After all, isnt what this site is all about, sharing our experiences???
For those that like to ridicule people, its best if we ignore them. Let them have their rant and dont reply to them, take away their ammo. You ride how you want to ride. We are all unique and all share a common interest, MOTORBIKES!!!!
SFFS treat your brothers and sisters how you would like to be treated online as you would not do it to their face. Stop hiding behind your keyboard
As for the rest, keep it shiny side up :2thumbsup

If anything, Its mellowed, No doubt due to the harsher actions of the mods.

Belive me mate there are far more people here that appreciate the posts you make than dont or 'have issue' with it, they simply take it on face value and enjoy the content. The people that sit on there computer night after night with there focus being to slate other peoples posts, experiences and thoughts do just that. Why should words said to someone publicly carry less weight when published in writing on a website?
It's something I've never understood.
We aren't anonymous here, and it's a small country; if you write something to someone on the forum, you best be prepared to back it up in person in due course.

if you are going to make videos of your riding, expect criticism, both constructive and pointless.
if you ride like a dick(especially in the current climate of "bikes killing bikes"),expect the criticism to be tinged with a sense of over righteousness.
The internet brings out all sorts of emotions and responses in people where normally they would STFU instead they hammer out their feelings on a keyboard.
in short,if you dont want to experience the full range of human opinion delivered to you in the comfort of your own home by telecom or whoever,go down the pub instead.theres bound to be some old cunt there who "used to ride a BSA"who will be well impressed by stories of bike related derring-do,specially if you buy him a beer.
otherwise,if you can stand the heat,keep posting.....:bash:

I ride the way I ride because I enjoy it. From the viewpoint of the video camera, it may look dodgy but a vid camera viewpoint gives no spatial awareness at all.
Check with Blackbird and his mates who just happened to be the riders I overtook. None of them were upset about my riding on that day.
It's simply another case of "you had to be there" before you can say something was right or wrong.
I never felt uneasy, had plenty of room and yes, for someone else it might have been well beyond their rider envelope.
BUT, no matter what I say here, you aren't going to be satisfied.

+1 to everything SixPack, Boomer, etc said! You're a good bloke! Be happy with the friends that you've made, fuck the others! Been passed (many times) on the road by you ....... never had any concerns. Good to talk with over a drink. You have a real love of riding that few on this site possess! Loved your articles / videos. Anybody asking about your riding /ego / bragging has obviously never ridden with you, and had a drink and a chat!
And yes (you FAGS), there is a difference between riding with someone and just being passed by someone! Cheers Paul!

That is not pleasent and I don't believe it should be condoned.
By all means slate his riding. But base it in fact (as you have done in the past) and leave the personal insults and lies out.
Is it ok to spread lies about someone because we are on the Internet?

I belong to another forum (totally different from this one) and although it is much, much tamer than here, the same sort of personality clashes and bickering goes on. It's all women, so it's probably a bit more bitchy and subtle I guess. :Pokey:
Unfortunately this is all part of human nature and the internet environment allows people to be much bolder and have anonymity. I'm sure half the crap that gets said on here wouldn't be said in person.
I have a sensitive nature and am inclined to be offended by some of the things I see on here, especially if directed straight at me. I have taken lots of KBers off my xmas card list :nya:
If you want some proof that this happens on other forums, check this out:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10549962
Ironically the forum in the article is very similar to the one I belong to, and the conflict talked about in the article is identical to a $hit fight that happened on there just a week or so ago. It's almost as if they changed names to protect the parties involved!

I agree but I know Beyond and yes he may be a quick rider but his attitude is top notch and that is important to remember...I know he got some stick for the vids but to me it shows that he is a safe rider and that this should only be done if you know what you are doing.
If you knew Beyond's background and life's angles, which I personally have empathy with...biking is one of his little pleasures that takes some of the pain away...I know myself that with Nats biking is an escape...despite getting my 2nd speeding ticket in 6 months and on 70 points I just accept that as a motorcycling hazard...I am no hoon, those who have ridden with me know that...plus I was conviction free for 27 years so if I end up with my 2nd 3 monther I will not weep...not saying I would like to avoid it but in the whole scheme of things it is not a major...
For a lot of us riding our bikes over the speed limit...not difficult...is an escape from our demons and there are a lot worse crimes that we could commit...
I support your sentiment as always but kicking the likes of Paul I cannot support because he is just enjoying what he enjoys best...

Beyond,
Whenever something like your vid is posted there will always be people who dont agree. No biggie - you posted it you take the feedback onboard or ignore it - your choice.
The upshot is that its only a couple of your post that are getting hammered (most are pretty good) - so suck it up - ignore the people who are pissing you off and move on.
Next time you post a vid like that you choose to get the same type of feedback - Thats just people and there agendas - so go in with eyes open and dont take it so personally.
I find the mud-slinging hard to take, just like you. Actually, I think it's quite disgusting. Bikerchick,
I cannot remember seeing any shit been thrown at you at any time - nor can I remember reading a post of yours that was 'out of line' or plain stupid.
Unfortunately your partner consistently did type shit and thats why he copped flack. He wasn't picked at random - the feedback he received was a direct result of his actions - he was the root of the problem - although he seems incapable of taking ownership for his own issues.

I suppose in life there is no way you are going to keep everyone happy all of the time but I did try. My vids were posted well in advance of the road chaos of late, my reasons for them have been explained as have my replies to obvious concerns in other threads. I'm not going over them again and of course no matter what I say there will be those who still think I'm a dick anyway.
My next vid is going to be a comedy anyway.
Thanks all for the support.

This whole question of what is happening to the site seems to come around in cycles.
There are the die hard bikers who think that nothing should be on here that doesn't directly relate to the bikes and then there are the space wasters like me who love the social side of what this site offers and enjoy taking the piss and shooting the shit.
For every one person that might kinda agree with what you do or what you say at any given time you can bet your arse there are at least two (or ten) others that think completely the opposite and wish you would just fuck off.
My stance is to just charge on as I bloody well like. Why give the grumpy bastards the satisfaction of not enjoying this place as much as I like. If my posts bother them so much they can just put me on their ignore list...I could care less if they read me or not

You're confusing the 2.
By all means offer your criticism as you have done and as I noted WSBK did in PD.
If you or DB have a problem with personal insults you know the answer, yet you both time and again come back for more and work diligently at attracting them. The only logical conclusion I can draw from this is that you guys enjoy them, far beit from me to deny you your pleasures.
It's not criticism of Beyond or his riding that is causing a stink, it's the propagating of lies.
The other lesson you may wish to consider is that of respect.
Quite simply, Beyond because of his actions over the years has earned it, you because of yours have earned derision. That's up to the individual, not the masses.

rep is bullshit, stops people from saying what they really think for fear of the red rep.
mods stop all the fun.

I could be wrong Mark but the general feeling [for those in the know] was your thread was a thinly veiled reference to a personal disagreement with you/mom [primarily] and other well know KB character/s. To use your own words 'bitchfighting' and not 'letting it go' fit well. Those on the side lines looked on with heavy hearts as solid friendships took big hits, frankly many would prefer things to go back to the way they were [something that would require movement for all concerned].
This thread however has merit. Beyond gets 'bashed' with monotonous regularity. Every time some one dies of late the protaganists eventually point to him in the erroneous belief that some how he should burn for others mistakes....nailing him to a cross so to speak. Lies are presented as truth and often nothing short of a drunken rant ensues for totally unfathomable reasons. The attacks on Beyond are cyber bullying and frankly if the same process was happening to many of the other awesome folk on KB [yourself included], many of us would be speaking up and telling them to fuck off.

I think that by now it easily constitutes a pack. Give it a rest. On numerous occassions I have explained to those who asked, including yourself, why such and such happened on the video, why I did something here or something there. All were valid answers and gave very reasonable explanations on all queries raised and they still aren't good enough.
I am supposed to come up with new answers, new responses and justify certain things to a bunch of people who obviously have forgotten what it's like to ride a bike and enjoy the freedom and liberty of motorcycling. Every day, just like a doberman, you find a new possum or hedgehog carcass to chew on and then want to share the maggots with everyone else online.
Personally I'm sick of it. You either ride with me and get to know me and then post shit on here about me from fact and personal experience or just piss off for good.

I don't remember you ever adequately explaining why you felt the need to overtake a learner rider at twice their speed who was probably concentrating on the section of road reduced to one lane covered with mud from a landslide with a drop off on their side of the lane.
Or for that matter why you felt the need to overtake the motorcycle with the pillion while the oncoming car is directly in line with that bike.

Directly ... flaming from a number of directions is happening to many on this site ... it is not just BEYOND ... but others who are in the midst of crap which is personal and to tell you the truth ... if people won't actually discuss shit then it can not be dealt with ...it is really upsetting to all involved .. calling people out really does not help ... chinese whispers and crap like that is unwarrented and really bloody pathetic.

I ride the way I ride because I enjoy it.
So you are out on the roads having a fun joyride then?
From the viewpoint of the video camera, it may look dodgy but a vid camera viewpoint gives no spatial awareness at all.
Well the camera clearly shows you passing other bikes without even having the decency to move out into the other lane.
Check with Blackbird and his mates who just happened to be the riders I overtook. None of them were upset about my riding on that day.
And they also said that they hadn't seen you coming and the first thing they knew was you blasting past. Just goes to show that you cannot assume everyone has seen you coming. You will be flying by many of those bikes in *their* lane without them realising you are coming.
I never felt uneasy, had plenty of room and yes, for someone else it might have been well beyond their rider envelope.
Yes we all know you think you are a good rider.
But what was the reason for such a rush that waiting a few seconds to make cleaner passes was out of the question for you? Why?

For a lot of us riding our bikes over the speed limit...not difficult...is an escape from our demons and there are a lot worse crimes that we could commit..

We didn't need to know he was coming as we were properly positioned and so was Beyond. You weren't there and we were which is all that needs to be said.
However, Beyond's question about what is happening to KB is a far more important issue and is why I don't bother to join in much these days. For myself, I've only been a member for a year. I do find good information and generally get a laugh from some posts cleverness. I like the bike reviews and ride reports, and lots of the general stuff. Things that look a bit pointless to me I just glance over and move on. I don't use the "ignore" but others seem to find it worthwhile...
I can't comment on how kb used to be, but I do think there is still plenty of value to be found here.

Solving cyberbullying is pretty simple from my point of view....
Cisco:
ip route 216.237.127.128 255.255.255.248 null 0
Juniper:
set route-options static route 216.237.127.128/29 next-hop discard
What does this do?
Makes the entire subnet:
Ashleigh Taylor NZ 216-237-127-128--29 (NET-216-237-127-128-1)
disappear, as in become no longer accessable.
Problem solved.

Typing is not to be reccooommm..... atente.... tryed when drunk. Or something.

I tried to find a "friend" to go for a ride with this afternoon, but it just wasn't happening.
Couldn't be arsed riding today. Just didn't feel like it.
I spent the afternoon playing basketball at the outside courts down the road from my place. Lots of tall men exactly half my age.
Did all right too. Experience is a good school. :2thumbsup

I had a fantastic ride this afternoon!!! New tyres just loverly. Didn't see any other bikes on the road either? Please tell me they weren't all on here bitching all day
I was escorting Mrs O on a wee trundle, saw plenty of bikes coming back over the hill.
I spent the entire time composing witty repartee and plotting bitchy rejoinders just for KB. Multitasking, see.

Such a lovely day, I went for a ride with Nadroj and naphazoline and one other.
Very enjoyable. Got a good shot of serotonin too. The latter is highly recommended but you probably won't get it sitting in front of your pooter.
Back to work tommorow.:scooter:
Night all :bye:
