Ok I have read all the accomplishments of Bruce Anstey and seen as much of his riding as I can on youtube (not many videos so...) but I haven't really heard of him or seen him race in NZ. So what do you guys know about him? Does he race any races in NZ at all? Is he a pit brawler, nice guy or general nutter? Ok yea IOM win I guess I just answered that one... http://www.relentlesscore.com/Bruce%20Anstey%20Kirkistown%20Test%20(425).bmp

I've spoken with Bruce a few times, and have found him to be an unassuming nice guy

Yea well I've read he can be quite quiet and a nice guy, not a loud knob jockey like some racers can be... But they always say nice things about the person they are talking about on racing sites.

he stayed at my place a few years back with his crew when he OWNED 600 sport prod on the ZX6R at the nationals.
He is a nice guy, kinda quiet, but obviously a very good racer indeed.
He was not always as ambitious as he is now,he can go as far as he wants to in this sport,he is certainly talented enough IMO.

It's cool how he races with virtually the same helmet graphic as Graeme Crosby used to and goes and owns the Irish roads :punk: From what I have seen he seems like one of those riders with a very spectacular style. I was watching a video of him a while ago charging into a 10kph (at race speed) corner ringing the gixxer up the gauge until the last second, braking so late the back started swapping but he just threw it into the corner. Not sure if he was intending to do that but I liked it! lol

I've known him for years...and he's a genuine GC. I've done a lot of road racing against him, and while he's a fierce competitor, he rides safely and cleanly. Next time he's back here...approach him...he'll always spare you the time of day.

Did you manage to keep up with him within a few seconds a lap while you were racing with him?

A photo of the man, just before going out to win the Superstock TT in 07...the same race that Shaun was injured.

Has anyone noticed that Kiwi bike racer's tend to be nice people as a whole?
Think names like; Bruce, Shaun, Graeme Crosby, Richard Scott, Dr. Roger Freeth, Vicky, etc. Anyone know any "not-nice" racer's?

Pete's not the sort to blow his trumpet publicly, so I'll point it out.
Crasher holds the lap record at Manfeild for 883 Twinsport. Racing against Bruce. Two fierce competitors in their day in a number of classes.

Anyone know if Bruce is going to race for relentless in '09?

I interviewed Bruce a few times and wrote articles about him for the local paper in Johnsonville (I think he was living in Newlands at the time) back in the late 1990s and found him very quietly spoken and genuinely nice. I remember one story was about how he held five or six national titles in one year, all on different bikes, not that you would ever hear of his achievements from him. He is a very talented rider who seems to be able to do well no matter what he races. It's just a shame you hear so little of him on the news in NZ.
Speaking of nice guys, a friend of ours was looking at Shaun Harris' bike at Wanganui on Boxing Day and said Shaun himself was really friendly. This guy walked away very impressed with how approachable and chatty he was. But then most are - many people never find out because they never think they will be approachable.

Last time I saw him he looked like death, only slightly warmed at that. Crasher is telling the truth, he was happy to chew the fat and give tips even then.

On the 2003 TT DVD they refer to Anstey as "Smiler" which sort of speaks for itself...
BIKE made him one of their heroes of the year a year or two ago.

Bruce is a top bloke, does not talk much, but always has a huge smile for ya. He is one of the most tlented bike racers this country has produced, he could have chased short circuit racing ery easy, but the road scene is where the wages are for him, and he is very very good at it!

You don't race in the same class as him in Ireland for '09 do you, Shaun?
