So she wants me to post up a little report on her first ride on norman (aka a Honda CB250RS on loan from Dogsnbikes)
I think I was about as nervous at being the instructor role as Mrs Cowboyz was at being the pilot role. Running through the basics on where all the controls are and how to start the bike and she was off.
Spent an hour in the carpark and she didnt get her knee down. In fact, nothing hit the ground at all. She only stalled once and was confidently doing U turns and figure 8s at the end of the session. Taking off and stopping without the engine revving at all seemed effortless. Top marks.
I going to put an extra lock on the 9 now..........
pics link in my sig.
Huge thanks to DognBikes who has entrusted his bike to us (well to Bobbie after me falling off his scooter yesterday)

So ya didn't get slapped at any time Lance??....:bash:
Had a look at the pics and, good to see 'B' with a turned head looking to where she wants to go, when doing a U turn?? or figure eight?
Yeah easy!

Well Done.
See I told you that you could do it..... Well, not in so many words.
Keep up the good work. :2thumbsup
Figure of 8's in the first lesson.... Heck, at that rate, yep, an extra lock for the 9 is well in order!

Good work you two.
The little RS is a great learners bike. (even teaches noobies how to kick start:Punk:).
When teaching karen, i kept reminding her that the front brake was her most stable friend. Getting on/off the bike. Walking it about. Lifting it off it's side stand etc, she always used it as an anchoring force. Never let the bike get away from her.
Keep it up guys.;)

Speaking of kickstarting...
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sj1zOmLkmqk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sj1zOmLkmqk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
This is after about 10 minutes on the bike. I too am a fan of the front brake to stabilize the bike when you dont want it to fuck off from under you. First thing I told her was to hold the front brake and explained why and she said "ok, which ones the front brake........."
Not going to be long me thinks

Looks like things are going pretty well. Think Mrs C needs to do a write-up and let us know what she thinks of her instructor and Norman.

That`s awesome to hear mate after reading about your reservations yesterday.
Either your a good instructor or she`s a good pupil.
Or maybe a combination of both.
Either way :woohoo::scooter::woohoo:

dont know if I am a good instructor. I just said the ground hurts and to stay as far away from it as possible. Fair bit of natural ability there me thinks. She has kind of ridden one of my old dirt bikes before. An IT200 2 smoker. She got on one side of it and fell off the other and that was the end for her and bikes. 8 years later she is keen as again

Cool sounds nice! Maaaan you shoula saw me doing the BHS...
I didn't know the bike was in 2nd gear, hence the continuous stalling + 4 bump starts due to drained battery.

Nice bike to learn on,guy I worked with had one back in 1984 brand new, went bloody well.
CWGIRL for next bike I take it?
An IT200,shit I had an IT175 1979 model(swapped for my XR200 1980)and that got up and boogied, loved the power band kicking in,but hated pre mixing the fuel.
Showing promise first serious time out, piece of piss for bhs and learners.

Woohoo Mrs Cowboyz, I read the Misters thread yesterday
Just looked at your piccys and wow for a first ride that looked really good you looked so :calm: and relaxed.
I am used to being on the back but have decided it is time for me to learn to ride and get my own bike and seeing your piccys and seeing other ladies ride just wants me to go get my license pronto

Well I finally have time to do a write-up yay.....
I was nervous and excited at the same time as I have wanted to learn for quite a while and when dogsnbikes suggested we borrow "norman" (I have no idea why he is called norman, dogs may fill in why) I was very keen.
Anyway Norman arrived this morning and I raced inside to get my gear on.
I had no reservations about Mr Cowboyz teaching me as he had taught me to drive the cage as well, and I must admit I think I do that pretty well too!!! ;-)
As I was strolling across the road towards the carpark I was thinking of all the things that could go wrong....like how many times I am going to stall before I get it going, whether I will pull on the throttle too hard and lose the bike, etc etc.
I jump on the norman and think oh nice height, look over the bike and notice on the right a kickstart!!! Aaargh!! Lance had to kickstart it for me the first few times but I am getting the hang of it now.
The throttle and front brake are definitely my friend!!!
I started doing a few u-turns and figure eights and was getting used to norman pretty quickly, I didnt think it was going to be so easy.
One hint lance gave me was to push down on the outside footpeg when doing a small u-turn just to get it tighter, that helped alot.
After almost an hour my hands and wrists were getting very sore, I was putting too much pressure and leaning on my hands rather than sitting upright more and having my legs hug the tanks (as lance suggested), maybe the 9 isnt safe after all!!
Still on a bit of a high I had to race into work for a couple of hours and was keen to get back for some more training.
Had dinner and got straight back into it, Lance had looked up the basic handling test and had me do some slalom and a bit more speed on the corner to see how I corner. I did that for almost an hour just doing slalom and coming out of it with a bit of speed to do the corner and back again. Loved it!!! The best tip lance gave me was to look ahead to where I want to go a few seconds, absolutely brilliant, got my confidence up heaps and I was properly committing to the corner, rather than turning then turning again.
Jumped off the bike and Lance tried to convince me to go up saddle road. I said hell no!!! We decided to do a little pootle around ashhurst. All in all I came home with no probs at all other than one stall. A little bit more practise and bring on the basic handling test!!
Thanks for the congrats!!

You'll piss in the basic handling.
Good to hear a success story on learning from partner, many said they couldn't or wouldn't.Remember those English docos on failed license idiots, guys couldn't back, manoevre etc.
Norman(the morman)bike for weekends and meetings.

Nice write-up, Mrs Cowboyz. You sound like a natural born rider! I think I stalled about ten times when I did my first lesson.

You'll be fine on Saddle Road:
The best tip lance gave me was to look ahead to where I want to go a few seconds, absolutely brilliant, got my confidence up heaps and I was properly committing to the corner, rather than turning then turning again.
This is great advise, and works well up there.... Always look where you want to go.... Don't look at what you don't want to hit.
The Saddle is just a whole series of corners linked by some (very few) straight bits....
Keep it up. BHT will be a piece of cake for you.
One step at a time though

Man... not bloody bad for 10 minutes on a bike, well done her. I"m about to teach Mrs IR to ride too. We must compare notes. I'm a little worried about it turning into royal rumble 2009 arguement wise.

TBH, I think it helps that Mrs C has had nothing to do with bikes and they have been a big part of my life forever. That and we very rarely argue anyway.
