What do you guys and ladies prefer for riders and pillions, foot pegs or footboards on your cruisers, and why ?
Thanks.

Pegs, because I like forward controls and foward controls with boards is rather ugly.
Pegs also scrap less due to better clearance.
But thats me. A lot of people like boards due to comfort of a fully supported foot.
Pillions? Well if they on my bike they have to tuck it in and not complain or it will be them walking home!

Thanks for that. I guess its what suits you that matters.
I think if I made my pillion walk home ..... I might find my dinner in the dog !! Wives tend to lack a sense of humour over a long walk home in the sun !!! lol :sweatdrop

Boards
I just like 'em and find them less tiring than pegs.
They do scrape a bit but...meh

But I havent tried floorboards yet. I had enough bloody trouble finding the more forward controls on the Vulcan after the GSXF and actually put my foot down on the road several times the first few days until I got used to leaving my left foot on the gear peg at lights... I might get some highway pegs mounted one day as well.

Pegs on highway bars rock the most! Personally I would prefer forward controls with pegs on my M50, apparently boards are more comfortable on long distances.

I guess I would have the same trouble as you for a while ..... looking for the pegs/gears/brakes.
I am looking at changing over to "the dark side" at some stage .... just for comfort on longer runs, and to provide a backrest for my wife, which will help her feel more secure and comfortable.
I'm going to do research about different bikes ... probably in the 800 - 900 - 1100cc range. I don't see an need to go bigger.
I appreciate everyone's comments and input about their bikes and experience.
Cheers.

Yes .... thats what I was wondering ..... if boards are more comfortable. I am used to pegs, but have never ridden anything that has boards on it. The only concern I could see with boards, may be the issue of grounding them easier than pegs ?

I like the boards on the C50T. It's a biggish bike and there's plenty of room to move around on longer rides. I haven't worn the original warning knobs out yet, but the bike corners well enough for a cruiser. Although on our trip last week, as I was having fun up the Kaimai's heading over to Tauranga and scraping the knobs with alacrity - much to the wife's annoyance as she hates the sound of it - we were passed by a VW 4Motion V6! He was going for it!
Pillion pegs are fine according to the pillion, and as her opinion counts I think that must mean she's comfy.
As for looks.. no bike is better looking than mine...! :2thumbsup
Performance? Everyone we've ridden with, questions its capacity as it can haul when asked! When assured it's "only 805cc", they ask if I've modified it! :msn-wink:

Yes ... without having tried them, that's what I was thinking ...

I hadn't thought about the looks side of things .... I don't think it matters either way ... ? For me, it would be about the comfort and usability .... as in ... are they (boards) are a hassle with easily being grounded .... ?

It comes down to how you ride, Grubby has a Dragstar with boards and has comment he has to slow down on some corners when we can go a bit faster. In saying that, his 1100cc drag is quick to catch up after the turn.
My bike is a 45ci (750cc) V4, and I've ridden with me plus my friend, making around 200kg of 6 foot tall men on my bike, and it wasn't wickedly fast bit it could do it and I wasn't slow getting up to speed.
Main issue there was the suspension bottoming if I turned to fast or wasn't watching for pot holes.
So I think 800cc and up is a good start for a cruiser if you are carrying someone.
And frankly most people aren't as large as me and I can hoon around a bit on my 45ci, you should have no issues with a wife on the back of an 800cc boulevard.
Must say.. my points are to Vulcans and Dragstars.. hands down. Prefer them big time over Boulevards

Boards, very comfortable, especially on the long hauls
Dont scrape them much cos I try not to corner hard enough for that to happen.

Im a boards convert aslo, my first cruiser had pegs and with pretty much one position for your feet I found my arse gettin really numb on any rides over 45 min. Now with boards I can move around a bit and can ride for upto 2 hrs without any loss of arse sensation :)

I'm pleased to hear that you haven't lost arse sensation Griffin !!
Yes I thought that about boards .... being able to shift your feet on a long trip. That appeals to me. From replies so far .... most people that have used .. or are currently using boards, like them!
Cheers.

You are surprised that a four-wheel-drive saloon can give your C50 the learn?

The softail has pegs for me and after market boards for her. If I get too cramped when riding long distances, I slip my heels onto the pegs and rest my feet that way..peg sits on the achilles..quite comfy.
Wife loves the boards and says it makes all the difference being a pillion.
I rode a Triumph Rocket Tourer with boards and it was ok but not sure if I would rush out and swap boards for my pegs on the Softail though. I guess it's what you get used to.
The main thing is be out there riding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:headbang:

Thanks for that. I think I have seen other guys riding the way you describe .... when they want to stretch out a bit.
Yes I think my wife (pillion) would prefer boards ... and I think I would too for cruising.
I'm envious of you! Man I'd love the opportunity to try a Triumph Rocket Tourer !! I imagine that was a real torque blast !!
And you're right mate ..... being out there riding is definitely what it's all about ! :niceone:

Not that it could, but that it did. Not too many cars try to even keep up let alone pass.

Yup! But the wagon version.

You shoulda seen me and kiwifruit in the mighty straight-six Falcon through the Paraparas on the way back from Wanganui. Motorcycles were being given the LEARN left, right and center.
Most motorcyclists don't really know how to go around corners, and even an average car can leave them for dust in the tight stuff if the driver knows how to use its superior traction.

The key to the Parapara (and any twisty road really) is knowing whether the current corner opens up or tightens. If you don't know but are giving it hell then your either about to die, or not really doing as well as you think you are.
Its also probably worth noting that the vast majority of people take it (very) easy through the Parapara......

Dont forget the option of highway pegs.
You can mount them on crash bars or on your frame and they give you the ultimate comfort for long cruising. I always find the worst times of cramping to be on long straights and highway pegs cure a lot of that.
And they tuck up and away nicely when you aren't using them.

The Rocket was interesting to ride for sure but not me..too much power that I would never use....I'll stick with the Softail.....

Yes they sound like a good idea. I find on my bike after a couple of hours that my legs are cramped up, and it would be nice to be able to stretch them out, but not an option on the Hornet ! However, comfortable cruising is something I look forward too. I like the idea that you have mentioned ...... and which I've seen on a few cruiser video's on You Tube, of the pegs mounted on crash bars. That gives extra options from the standard positions. :niceone:

Yes I can understand that. I would like to ride one though, for the experience ... but yeah ... it would be a bit too much to live with for me, for every day riding. You just wouldn't want it to fall over ! You'd need a team and a crane to stand it up again ! :sweatdrop

I've only tried boards once when testing a bike, but didn't really enjoy it. I've since found many ways to rest my feets on the pegs so it's not a big issue for me on long rides. And I *do* need the pegs' extra cornering clearance :).
Now I'd be keen on this:

Theres a Ducati with crash bars mounted to the front up reaching bars of the frame on trademe. So why not a hornet.
Although don't do what they did and put fish tail pipes on it to.
Man that bike on trademe looks ugly.

Na .... that would be just too FUGLY !! Horses for courses I reckon.
I slung my leg over an S83 today, but didn't ride it anywhere as didn't have gear. It felt a little top heavy, but I would like to ride it anyway.

I actually meant to say Ducati with highway pegs.. not crash bars.
