yep, me and Barty5 should be there.
Went down friday as metservice said it was ment to be a better day weather wise, but it rained the whole time we were there. Was good though, and yeah will be fun if it rains on race day.

I'm thinking about doing it in the rookies class, how hard is that? I was down on friday and certainly struggled in the wet conditions but I'm assuming in the dry it will be a different place.
Other than a bike and myself do I need to take anything else?

drinking fluid its a long 2 hours dont sound like much but if you look at a normal days ride you dont clock up that much ride time.
you will need fire extingusher. and finish behind me and rupe lol

ive always thought of doing a GNCC race, but was too afraid of coming in dead last. im probably an experienced intermediate rider. do they have different classes like beginner or first time racer classes? or is it classed by bike size?

Have a look on GNCC.co.nz, all the classes and rules are there....thats about all I know tho, maybe someone with some actual experience may have something useful to say!
I have last place sewn up, so you don't need to worry about that!

You could race the rookies class instead of the clubmens which is about the only choices you have. When you enter the rookies class you also automatically get entered in three classess within rookies Overall, Class(bike size) & Age. I have done the woodhill round and you pretty much rock up on the day with your bike ,gear, Extinguisher and $55. Register and race. No MNZ license required.

You will be placed towards the back of the feild if you havnt entered other rounds as positions are worked out from where you finish from other rounds. which would put round about 80 riders in front of you. They are a good fun race but stamina is required this is my 1st go at it dam near died after wood hill round. As said earlier if you check your hour meter after a days ridin it wont have clocked up as much as you think 2 hours non stop is a fair bit you kinda fall of the bike at the end. Pacing yourself is a good thing you need to remember its 2 hours not a quick flash race better to finish with 4 laps than go flat out wearout and only get in 2 or 3 laps 16km per lap.

C'mon ladies ... harden up eh.
Kezzafish and I had the good fortune to bump into Rory Meade (current elite class GNCC leader, Wgtn lad) while riding an extremely gnarly section of the Maungatouks' friday.
It was pissing down and foggy as hell. Very slippery and steep rock / clay downhills. Best ride Ive had in ages though (well, the first since I broke my collarbone 6 weeks ago). Haha .. ended up sliding down a rockface with the 450 on top of me. Burned a damn hole in my belly the same pattern as my exhaust pipe guard!. A new tattoo.
We asked Rory about the section we were riding and he reckons these days they probably wouldnt put it into an enduro cos its too damn tricky .. we were flushed with pride after hearing him say that ... but that was before the nastier parts...
Anyway .. my point is, the conditions were shit shit shit but we hauled each other through there (about 3 hours on bike time all up) and loved every minute of it. Good practice eh.
And the beer did taste better that evening I can tell you. :woohoo:

Just come and give go, I've only been riding just over a year and I don't come dead last (well not yet)! If you enter the rookies class and your are an experienced intermediate rider you should do quite well. After the intial excitement of the start just treat it as a trail ride (if you can!).

Bikes ready now...Yipee. I need to decide what tyre to use on the rear...Any Suggestions guys? I was thinking of trying a 110 on the rear, Hoping it might provide some extra grip..Have any of you tried this before and what were the results like?
had a look at the long range weather forecast and it looks like there may be some rain to contend with, I usually stay away from the wet and slippery stuff, got to give it a go sometime though. cant wait for the race.

my 450 had a 120 standard but i use the MS3 normaly although i just put on a MH3 for a change thought i would give a go prob is they only go up to 110 but they hook up well even had to go down to a 100 on my 426 as there was nothing left in the 110 at the time less weight to turn that hooked up real well but was a bit to skinny.

I was thinking of using the 250kxf for the event as i dont fancy hanging off the back of a 450 for two hours. my kx has a standard 100 on the rear but i have a 110 from my 450 just sitting at home and was wondering if it would provide more grip than the 100. I 've been told it alters the handling as in that it tends to feel a little heavier in more than one respect.
Just wondering if its worth trying it for the race or sticking with what i am used to

Its BF Goodrich Crossengo that i bought for the 450 and used for two hours and then got a bridgestone m404. so this tyres just sitting there one side has 2hours but the other side is absolutely fresh with good bite. i was thinking maybe running 12 psi to get a greater surface contact. i ve been told that they do, there is enough side clearance from the looks of it. Maybe its better left alone, i could try it out at a trail ride to see if it really helps. Cheers Though!

C'mon now ! i dont reckon its going to rain hard(as per the extended forecast) A little rain will help keep the dust down which will make for good safe racing(its kinda good when you can see where you are going). I reckon its going to be a blast. Thanks to Vazza i will be able to make it to the event... Ahh yes, Thanks barty5 !! for the generous offer to hide under your tent if it rains. See you guys at the event & best of luck to all with thier bike preparation.

Quick note to those that havnt been before turn up early it takes time to set up and register round 1 we got there bout an hour and a quater before and hardly had time to set up and get to the start. by the time you set up fuel etc. etc. it gose real quick and you dont want to be rushed creates stress which leads to bad ride.

True that !! happened to me at woodhill. Trying to get there this time by 9:30ish . Which to be honest is just enough to set up without having to rush.

Dumb question time:
I assume we turn up, register, have a briefing, start the race, ride for two hours then collapse in a heap. Am I missing something?
Your comment about "setting up fuel" worries me, should I be planning on refueling during the race? If we do, i assume that means we leave the fuel can by the trailer and stop half way thru to top up....sound about right?
Any advise is more than welcome!

kinda got it track will be 16ks so pending on what you ride and how many laps you do you will want to Refuel.
race start you start 6-8 bike at a time. they scan your helmet each lap after that it your choice you keep going for another lap bypas the pit lane or if you need fuel then you pit and can grab extra drink or energ food at same time (you shouldnt have to after one lap ) you just keep going doin as many laps as you can in the 2 hrs if you cross the line at 1:59:59 you get to do another lap once your 2 hrs are up the next time you cross the line its race over.
Sign on is from 10:00 breif at 11:15 race 11:30 aim to be there no later than 9am time will go real quick drink heaps (water) prerace today and in morning (make sure you have good piss prerace)
Most of all make sure you have fun and if i come up behind yah in the race gat outa the way.lol
