I went up to Kuratau for the weekend (west side of Lake Taupo). On Saturday, I went for a lap around the lake, and when I got back my license plate was gone, snapped off around the bolts! :( No idea where it's gone... hopefully I can get a new one pronto - do you get the same plate or a new number?

Had to ride home today taking it nice and easy so I wouldn't attract any unwarranted attention... I was rewarded when a cage that had zoomed past me did a dodgy overtake of the next cage in front - who was a mufti cop  ;)

[later:] after cleaning.. seems my rear reflector and registration sticker are gone too! :(

No big deal. You get a new plate at any VTNZ place . Cost $12.50 I think (used to be $8 - that's inflation in a capitalist system f'y'). New rego sticker is free, new reflector , any bike shop or cycle shop should be able to sort it . You get a new number .

The only place I stopped was in Turangi for petrol... it was a pretty busy petrol station so they'd have to have been very cocky to waltz up and snap them off... I can't think of a good reason why someone would steal them either :(

Proberly a good idea. I'm sure at this moment a parking warden is issuing a ticket for an illegaly parked number plate.

could have been taken to use on a stolen bike or trailer, so report it asap

You will get a new number and I think they will retire the old one. I would still report it just in case.

It is possible it just fell off. I had to play hunt the license plate last week when my daughter lost it from the front of my car. It was where she left it, embedded in the wooden bump stop in her work car park. The coach screws had been pulled through the ABS bumper but had left really neat holes. It is now back on with Loctited M8 cap screws.

Thanks everyone, I'll call it in first thing tomorrow and get a new plate sorted. Already got my bike booked into get the damage caused by the reversing security van looked at, so hopefully I can get the reflector fix done then too :). Maybe some crash knobs and new mirrors too... and a new helmet and waterproof pants... wait who told me bikes were cheaper than cars?

Yup got A personalised plate remade. Cost around $25.00 I think.Takes about a week to do. You have to order them through the people you buy the plate through.

Yep, they lied to you... NEVER listen to them again ;)
My other half knows full well the bike is more expensive than the car, but there is no way she would have me without one... :)

Scumbags steal them to use on their own vehicles when intending to steal petrol.

The Post Shop used to do them, but no longer . It has to be done at the VTNZ sites only.

I've got the new plate and rego sticker. I rang the AA and they said to call into a branch so I did, and got one for $8.80. Rego sticker was free. I've got nowhere to mount it right now so I'll just carry it around with me...

The guy at the AA said cos I'd been a member so long I was eligible for a free insurance quote so I said sure, why not, try beat over a grand on full cover a sportsbike ridden by a low experience male under 25. Not sure he's gonna be able to help there but it's worth a shot :bleh:
