$8k ready to ride!

With looks as aggressive as a shark, and engine with a bite that would make a great white worried this GSXR1000 ain't for your average Joe.

Putting out over 150hp at the rear wheel it has more than enough tango to put even the most courageous of riders in their place - so much so that I rarely use more than 9000rpm to get my kicks from this almighty beast.

The K&N filter and Viper exhaust have opened up the breathing and helped to increase the throttle response, and of course given the engine an exhaust note that signifies the true power of a one litre superbike.

Add to this the WP suspension and you get a package that not only looks and goes like a bat out of hell, it also handles like a train on rails.

It is a 'crashed and repaired' bike, and was checked out at F1 Engineering in Hamilton to make sure it is straight. Forks and front wheel were replaced.

The bike has 25,500km on the clock, but has only done about 8000km since the engine was examined and rebuilt accordingly - approx $2500 spent on checking and rebuilding the engine alone.

It's not pretty up close but it rides exactly how it is supposed to and still has much more power than I can realistically play with. There is still a minor dent in the tank, and a few scratches on the fairings but besides that it's begging to be ridden.

Oil was replaced 500km after the rebuild, at 3000km after and again when it got to 22,000km on the clock - so another 1500km before the next oil + filter chage is due.

Will have 3mth rego and WOF til May when sold, and i'll also do the oil and filter.

The tyres are coming up due for replacement but i'll throw a BT015 front in for free.

Would prefer that people came to view it - selling as I can't afford to run a 1000cc bike on a 'poor student' budget.

Last day for sale at this price. If no one comes up with the cash then it's going to be getting finished and sold for a higher price.

Have you decided what you're moving on to? :-)

With only 25,500 on the clock what was actually done to the engine?

Unless it has spent its life being raced I struggle to understand why anything needed touching.

Thanks.

It was crashed, and after opening it up i'm glad that I did. If I buy another crashed bike to do up i'll definitely be taking the head off at least, to see if it's had any damage. We replaced all the valves and had a new crank put in. A couple of the valves were bent and the timing end of the crank had a bend in it. Everything that was suggested by the mechanic was done.

nice bike bro, but unfortunately I need the money to my clear debts in order to make my student life bareable!

I'm actually after a 'classic' parallel twin or something similar that will allow me to cruise without feeling like i'm keeping a raging beast locked up in a cage!

You make a good point here - I've seen bikes land and get the throttle stuck wide open - modern bikes will then bounce off the rev-limiter until its turned off - probably resulting in the damage as described. It's a good job you checked it - I'd probably just fired it up causing more trouble!
Just for interest apparently my Hornet has a tilt cutoff thingy, to shut the engine off if its dropped.

Good price on the Suzuki.

Once it was all reassembled after the work it only needed the idle adjusted, it ran fine so i never bothered to get it 'tuned', Holeshot balanced the throttle bodies for me and now it's got a bit more punch due to everything being properly in sync.

I would keep it if my circumstances allowed, but i honestly need a bike with less power to keep myself out of trouble!
