Waaaahhhh! :crybaby:
I just went for a quickie round my favourite road and all of a sudden there's "Temporary - 30" signs planted every km. To make matters worse they're re-surfacing quite a bit of the road.
Any idea when they'll be finnished?
Are they installing massive ramp to get some SIKK air?

Meh....Never been that impressed with scenic drive, too many corners that could end in tears if your going at "fun" cornering speed and somethings blocking the road around the bend..........

They're doing some work with the drain pipes, stopping them from over flowing or something.
I have to drive over it to get out to civilisation..

Not sure. Probably a place to avoid anyway CB. :)

Agree with you - we use the road regularly and over the years I've suggested to bikers to take it easy through any part of the Drive...at anytime of the year...road works or not.
Its ok if you plan to cruise but certainly not place to up the stakes...

Any road is a good road.:2thumbsup
Dont want to discourage you from riding Scenic drive - just watch yourself is all.
My comment to avoid it was really aimed at avoiding it if you were looking for a place to push the pace. It often skips people's minds that Scenic Drive is in fact a residential area. Not what we would consider a 'traditional residential' area but one none the less. Just too many driveways, shadows, bumps, moss, oil, dirt, tarsnakes, loose gravel, holes, trucks, cyclists, homeowners walking their dogs, dead animals, hikers, unsigned roadworks, holiday/daytrip traffic, tourists, off camber corners etc... to think about.

Scenic drive is only shite loads of fun on a motard :)
going hard on a sportsbike can get very nasty down there indeed.

You can add "council roadworkers trimming the grass on the side of the road... without bothering with any warning signs" to that list.

Waitakere Rd to Kumeu. make your way to Old North Rd and ride that up to Peak Rd. Then along Peak Rd past the Helenville golf club till you hit SH16.
SH16 North to Welsford. - and back. A world class ride.

+1. :2thumbsup Old North Rd -> SH16 -> Wellsford is the road I do most often and the very first twisty open road ride I ever did, except sometimes I vary it by going Old North Rd all the way into Helensville (turning left instead of right onto Peak Rd), it bypasses the 80km/h long straights on Peak Rd.
