The Adventure Begins!

I found my adventure bike! Its been sitting in a shed near Tauranga for three years cos its owner had a bit of a mishap on his other bike and couldnt ride!

Its furkin Heavy and not particularly fast but it roars with authority and scares small children!

I just bought a 1986 Honda XLV750R :Punk::third: for just over 2 grand!

It is complete and original and just seems to need the carbs balancing.

I'll do a few rides on it then give it the big bare frame rebuild for next summer.

Any of you guys own these beasts? Im keen to learn about them.

Do a web search, there are a few sites around for these beasts. They sound like an interesting bike.

Okely Dokely-

Here is my fire breathing flat tracker engined adventure machine!
I went to town onitfor for a coffee today and as I sat and watched I saw two seperate guys stop and walk around it,

It really is quite a bike - it has a 45degree vee, hydraulic lifters, spin on oil filter, Dry sumped huge easy access paper element air filter, twin spark plugs, air suspension in the rear. Its shaft drive too! the whole thing seems to be set up for service intervals of about 10 years:niceone:
And its not even scratched! But the plonker who owned it was a shortie and bastardised the seat before he realised that he could let air out of the rear suspension and lower it:weep:

I remember going for a blast on one of these at a honda roadshow years ago, probly 1986. It scared me a bit cos the only bikes I had ridden prior to that were small trail bikes .

Very envious too.Just to add to your accumulating XLV750 information - that is the rare ''Italian'' colours.After the first French coloured red white and blue model which we never got here...most were black/maroon,that black/blue colour was available in Italy.There is also a vary rare black/silver too....for Asia I think.Where did you get it? There was a blue one up in Helensville,could be it resurfaced.

It's missing the cooling scoops - some say they are important,but I don't think so.Check the carb diaphragms,that could be the ''carb balance'' problem,and the lack of power too - the thing should be rev happy....max power at 7,000,but goes to the 8,000rpm red line if you don't watch the tacho.Do something about the reg/rec,they are buried deep and get no cooling air.Also check the rear drive splines....some had trouble there.

You can enhance it a bit of course, but why change it?
If You want something else you would be better of buying what you want....
No such thing as a bad bike....
