FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW/AREN'T AWARE OF IT AND INTERESTED THIS GROUP IS UP AND RUNNING, IF YOUR GENUINELY INTERESTED HAVE A LOOK AND JOIN IN- IT'S GOTTA BE GOOD FOR YA!
In light of the recent thread "who is the fattest bastard on KB" I was thinking it might be cool to start a group where you can maybe put in up-dates on your weight loss (or gains for those wanting to put on muscle) post up before and after pics and was thinking of having a laid back comp for 3 months starting monday 12th Jan to see who has the best results, with 2 weekly progress up-dates.......:apumpin:
And just to clarify i'm not thinking of a support group where you sit around in a circle rubbing each other off, just somewhere where you can share your progress etc and see how others are getting on. And yes I know there are other sites where you can do this just seeing if anyone on here is keen.
Personally i'd like the groups members to actually be somewhat serious about getting into it rather than just talking about it.....
Also one last thing, if your not interested........I don't care, and i'm not interested in ya negative input....so please take your urge to let me know elsewhere.....

Well actually it is a support group as you will be encouraging/praising one another and the idea of failing in front of others drives you to try harder. Just no rubbing each other off unless someone comes up with an icon for it :)

Hahaha, yeah pretty much, was just meaning that it's not intended to be a "soft -fairy / fluffy we all love each other and want to wrap each other up in cotton wool" jenny group, just a group with common goals, be it increasing strength or losing weight etcetc...
would be good to put up sites and info of places doing current deals on products also....

Bikers need to be fit too!
I would love to join...but I can't make the meetings in the local pubs, sorry.
I am currently doing a complete body transformation. No not plastic surgery! Better! Weight lifting, I am loving it! I go to the gym regularly and I just started doing cardio in the mornings at home. I have a personal trainer and he promised me a 10 layer chocolate cake at the end of your training sessions around April! Now if that isn't motivation for me, I don't know what is...! Chocolate! Yummmmmy!
Here is a little tip my trainer gave me, do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, watch the fat melt off! Then do cardio before your last meal of the night! I am currently up at 4 AM before work to do cardio, then I go in to train 3 times a week with trainer after working a 12 hours shift on top of that! I hate it! Sundays are my rest days! But I am so looking forward to seeing the changes my body makes come June!

Yup - this is actually something positive on KB - way to GO!
I was 108kg a few years back, got down to 93 last year but got sick etc and backed off the exercise at the same time as rediscovering beer... sigh! Now 101.2kg. 1st goal is back around the 95 mark while keeping all the muscle I've fought hard for. Biggest plus - much less sore back from riding once the core got stronger.
Next week I'll post up the current gym routine before I ramp up the cardio.
My biggest problem is I really like beer and my diabetes. Makes a long workout 'tricky' at times but always experimenting.

Everything that Trudes said I agree with. Except I didnt go for a half hour walk thismorning. I do plan on going for one tomorrow.
My personal bastard (recovering broken left foot) has finally been fitted with a new formthotic and a new pair of hideously overpriced cross trainers. Hopefully I will now be able to start walking without being in mucho pain.
On the hunt for a cross training machine as they are my fav to use.
Off to Drs next week for next lot of thyroid tests.:doctor:. I have put on 15kg in 5mths gulp... so hope its my thyroid. Option 2 would be sleep eating and thats just too weird even for me.

I'm in.
In 2005 I got up to a huge 115kg (6'1"), many didn't believe me that I was that heavy.
Cause: Dodgy knee (no exercise), moved to a desk job, and consumed too much beer and too many pies!
Went on a biggest looser program, and got down to 93 by Christmas 2006.
Bought a Heart Rate Monitor and a Road Bike (Avanti Giro) at the beginning of 2007 and trained like mad.... Well, not really, just road bikes are addictive.
Apparently I'm a geek, so monitoring my fitness with the HRM was exciting to me....
Results: Down to 86Kg. Entered Club Triathlons, Duathlons, Harriers, MTB events, Tour De Manawatu, and Taupo Cycle challenge, and a whole lot of other stuff.
My bike (CBR) also became very economical, and got a vast improvement in power to weight. That was REALLY noticeable when I finally got back on it.
Anyhow, 2008 was a year for the motorcycle, and enjoying a bit of a life change....
Result: Back to 93 KG. Don't look fat.... But there are extra CM's around my pot.
SO, rather than pork out, I'm really keen to get back to 88kg (86 I look lite death) this year.
I obviously have done it before, so know what works for me....
I'm keen to help anybody needing advise on things.
I will say up front, when we talk about diets, for FFS DO NOT Starve!
You will not loose weight for the long term by starving.
I prefer to call it "Eating Plan".
What ever one you choose will work, as long as you stick to it and do the appropriate exercise (they all say that. It is the two combined, not just the food).
So off for a 50 minute cycle... You got me motivated.

In the past 15 months, I have learned to love sushi, nuts and Marmite. Coke Zero and Sprite Zero taste OK, so does coffee without sugar. I now eat breakfast before leaving for work. I am the frequent user of one of those Breville "George Foreman" grill thingies. Vegetables are my friend. Bread does not need to be buttered.
I have lost weight. With a diligent exercise regime I could probably lose more, given that body mass is directly proportional to calorific intake minus calorie usage.

I would say you get your exercise in cleaning the grill.
I have one too, but I find it terrible to clean... Other half refuses to.

We have a George Foreman one that goes through the dishwasher. I used to detest cleaning the Breville grill!
My whole family signed up for Sureslim and I was the only one who succeeded (I kept the weight off for two years). So, what did I have that they didn't? Easy. A partner who helped me out.
Cajun loves potatoes and chippies (and so do I), so when he cooked them for himself and I was eating measly vegetables, he'd put a minute portion of whatever he was having on my plate. It gave me a taste of what I was missing and stopped me craving it. Plus, the half-dozen chips weren't enough to stop me losing weight.

Here is a little tip my trainer gave me, do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, watch the fat melt off!
This is not such a good tip.
The biggest fat burning asset you have in your body is muscle. Fuel your muscles to increase your fat burning.
Do your cardio in the afternoon after you've had most of a day of steady calories and energy intake. You will have more fuel onboard and consequently will be able to train harder and get better results.
Expanding on this, if you're getting into the fitness thing you should be including weights of some form into your exercise regime as well as your cardio for the reason specified above. Muscle burns fat.
You dont have to join a gym, there are plenty of other ways to build muscle.
If you like to do your weights in the morning, leave it at least an hour after you get out of bed. This will decrease the likelyhood of a back injury. The discs between your vertebrae swell while you're lying in your bed and need time to relax before you stress them (this is related to why you're taller in the morning than in the evening).

While i'm here, your diet is so important to getting results. Too many people complain about going no where, when the answer is right in front of them.
You need a good balanced diet of red and white meats (including fish if you eat seafood ) Salads and dairy products. A regular serving of unrefined carbs commensurate with the amount of exercise you are doing. Carbs are what fuel your muscles and brain.
Ultimately, moderation is the key.
Serving sizes are something to consider as well. You may be eating the right stuff, but just far too much. You may not realise it. As you eat more and more, your stomach stretches to accomodate it. If you cut your intake down to what you should be eating, you may not feel full for a little while untill your body sorts itself out again and your stomach shrinks.

Been a bit a.w.l. over the last few days. Been at Parachute 09 at Mystery Creek in Hamilton. But found some interesting dieting tips whilst I was away.
1. Having to walk 500mtrs to the nearest toilet really kerbs the natural desire to drink fizzy drink.
2. Knowing you will have to walk 500mtrs to the nearest toilet means you wake up 10 mins earlier and go for a brisk walk before breakfast.
3. Heat really does make you lose your appetite.
4. Hot food like milk, cheese, ham and lettuce are not yummy or safe.
5. Mosh pits are very similar to vigerous aerobic classes, but with no instructor and no leaving class before its over.
6. Chilled water is the best tasting drink on the planet, even when it has dust in it.
