I've got one you can have. I think it's a 29". Older style tube one. Has a remote, possibly even batteries in said remote.
I'm on the Shore.

Bloody good of you to offer mate - I'll hold that as plan C
Plan A is to ring up tomorrow and see if it can be fixed
Plan B is to see what "no deposit" deals might be going at the moment (if plan A fails)
Plan C is now you

Just buy another,we had a new 21" Sanyo from wharehouse in July, needed fixing so was duly repaired under warranty, repair guys said wasn't worth it due to cost, but under warranty they fixed the problem(temporarily),started doing same thing so back we go,end result picked up a transonic for $134.95 and they gave me money back woohoo.
Most of the major outlets will have I/F Terms at the moment, some good deals i.e 37" lcd from $800.

Oh man, our TVs must be twins or something. My tv died yesterday too. Makes nice arching electricity sounds right now.
But I am already the owner of a spanking new 50" plasma.

Remove all the components from the TV and keep only the frame so you can see through. Then park your bike behind. TV *and* bike, both your wife and you are happy, problem solved!
Of course, your wife might not be too pleased to see your bike on every channels...

Same thing happened to my tv, I was watching celebrity treasure island (the NZ one) so it was my own fault, I figure it was god trying to strike me down for watching such trash.

Its nature finding its balance.
We had a very nice TV for quite a few years, Then when I had the opportunity to grab my oldboys TV which was huge compared to ours I gave ours away. Against my dear wife's wishes I might add.
We got three weeks out of the television I scored, Then it died and I ended up spending our entire Christmas (this was a year ago) fund on an LCD.
The TV I gave away is still running perfectly, and probably will do for many years to come.

Its nature finding its balance.
Is that what it is? I thought it was just a bastard.
We had only a cheapish 20" TV, so about 6 or 7 years ago, I used the proceeds of the pathetic amount we got selling the 4Wd at auction to buy a nice Loewe from Eastern HiFi. It carked it a few years ago, so we had it fixed, then it carked it again last year, and was (apparently) not worth fixing. I had to pay to have it recycled.
The cheapish, 15 year old 20" is still trundling along, but now that we've got a plasma, it's just another dust-gathering ornament.
No doubt it'll get dragged out again when the plasma contributes to the nature/balance thingo...

Well - managed to find the Samsung repair centre today. One of their technicians came out (for a lazy $106) and announced that the lamp has blown.
No shit - thats what the smoke was huh?
So $400 - 500 and two weeks from now I should have a TV again.
Wife is moderately less unhappy

Relax, there must be thousands of people who have got flat screens TVs, with nice CRTs gathering dust in a corner. I am sure you can get a good one for little more than making the effort to pick it up and a few gold coins...

Did the smoke alarm go off?
Nah - it was just a puff about the size of a fist.
But any smoke from the back of yer TV is bad smoke right?
