You can't opt out! Every ride needs their GN250.

It's a learner ride, pace should be at 100km/h maximum.

And besides, a rider is never left behind, everyone should be riding at their own pace.

just a noob question does a chain and sprocet set have to be run in? or is it good to go? (what i man is will i still be sweet for this ride)

yes you're good for the ride, but the new chain will stretch a little bit and need adjusting first time earlier than usual. For myself i "boot gauge" a new chain for the first 350kms or so then do normal maintinence and adjusting from there

Might come along, not many more rides left on the chew fiddy before it gets upgraded :bye:

Great to see so many new riders comin along. Be sure to listen to the briefing at the start and all will be well. Group rides can be a LOT of fun, but they can also be the cause of much aggravation and problems if people arent considerate of those around them, and the group ride etiquette.

Between Toto and m'self we should be putting on a fair few noobie rides over summer, so keep your eyes peeled

ideally tyre pressures should be set when cold, but a check when a tad warmed before we set off in the morning is better than naught

Pin wrench? i'm guessin you mean a C-spanner. Dont have one of those on me, as suspension adjustment on the rear usualkly involves rippin the back half of the bike to bits :p

Was a good day for it. Sorry I had to bail at Wellsford, but I had promised the kids to take them swimming at the local school pool (bloody nice it was too).

Had a good ride home too...down SH16 and turned off at Woodcocks, got halfway across to Warkworth then turned off on to the Aruhoa (sp) road to Puhoi to get some dirt under the wheels. Then from Puhoi over the dirt roads to the back of Silverdale.

God I love having a dual purpose bike :Punk:

P.S. Next ride, can everybody who wants to go please fill up before going to the meeting point :Pokey:

Learning points that I think learners should pick from this ride:

1. Keep your distance

2. Dont ride fast on an unknown road with unknown corners

3. take extra care when overtaking and make sure you have enough space to get back into your lane after the manuvre.

Thanks all for today.

I really enjoyed the first part of it, then I enjoyed sitting talking to our friend with the hyosong while waiting for the trailer to arrive, Big ups to The Stranger & son for coming to the rescue!
I then carried on my own little ride, taking random turns without looking at the signs, ended up coming out near an airfield so I went for a nosey & ended up meeting another KBer!
Had a very long chat about common interests and random crap, rode home via 16, Coatsville-Riverhead & got in about an hour ago.

Not quite what I planned but a very good day none the less:2thumbsup

Fantastic day for the ride yesterday. I Hadn't planned on joining the ride because of work in the morning. Got a call from a couple of mates at lunchtime that they were at Puhoi at were heading to Wellsford.
So i figured what the hell, we'll head to Waipu and we'll see the 2fiddys on the road.

Didn't expect to see youse all still there. Good to see a couple of familiar faces, and match some bikes to user-names.

Nice wheelie DucatiHard (got a couple of mumbled Chur's from the brothers) and the chrome tank on MrsDuctaiHard's bike is mucho respected.

Went back down through the Brenderwyn's and saw only one cop on the passing lanes at the bottom of the hill (as you always will) and 2 within 2 minutes at the 70k area of SH16 heading out of Wellsford.
No more after that, and that was it for the whole day.

Glad to hear you're ALL back ok, cause to be honest (given the numbers) I wasn't 100% sure that'd be the case.

Cheers for the ride guys & gals.

Special thaks to Grahamemeboy for not trying to molest, or convert me.

Apologies to anyone that was upset by me overtaking them. In hindsight, maybe the ride should have been split into two groups at the beginning, with someone in the faster group who knew where to go at the lead?. BusaPete did a good job of this from Waiuku, maybe the first leg might not have been so tedious if this happened sooner?.

I dont think it was necessarily bad overtaking or anything like that (tho i didnt see it all of course), just a lot of people fresh to biking and not used to the big boys flyin past. We need to remember that new riders need a bit more room for their comfort bubble than those of us who have been on two wheels for a lot longer.

As for the groups, it was intended a a learner ride, and the numbers really ballooned on the original plans by the sound of it. I think separating the groups is a good idea where we have people who wanna go a bit faster, otherwise we have the problem of the fast guys out the front becoming the pointer, getting behind all the learner guys who are taking it easy (as they should ), and have to work their way back past them all again.
It's a tough one to know how to handle it... On one hand, you could say big boys piss off and find your own ride, but i dont think that's right, as it is great when you're starting out to meet people on bigger bikes who can give some wisdom and insight into this life of biking that we all love. Plus they realise you're not all as scary as ya look ;)

Was me and toto behind you on the way up, the two white hornets fighting over TEC position :girlfight:

You're doing well on the ol GN mate, and seem to have good control of her. Once you start getting the pace up there you'll need to start looking at your lines a little more though. Sometimes i noticed you taking a corner like a car. Dont forget we have the whole width of the lane at our disposal on two wheels, and the more we utulise the easier it makes it to get round that corner  (just dont run too wide )

And dont knock the GN too much, she's doing you well :sunny:
They are an ideal learner bike in my opinion, and are great for teaching you the basics of bike control on a non-threatening platform. I think you'll find the hornet a good step up from the GN once you are ready (dont do it too soon though, the GN has much to teach), and the extra power is a welcome change once you have the skills to manage it :wari:

Certain things may or may not have happened  :innocent:
Lets just say that was the end of my stunting days on the GN, and it was around then i realised it was time to move on from the GN. My riding abilities were getting higher than what the GN could respond to, so i was starting to do silly things on it.
Think i chatted to you a little bit at waipu, but then i had a snooze in the sun... til someone pissed on me...
