Dear Agony Aunt,
Have recently crashed my bestever bike!!!!#$%&! Thinking bout what to replace it with. Could buy it back and try fix it...or save the hassle and buy another. Am afraid if I get same as before, could be dissapointed as no two bikes are the same. A Different bike might be better as not making close comparisons all the time. Anyone??
What do you Reckon????????

Dear Agony Aunt,
I recently crashed and burned my bestest ever bike!!!&%$#!!!
I could buy it back and try recreate it.
I could buy another the same.
I could buy a completelydifferent bike.
I am afraid if I buy it back it wont 'feel' the same bike...and it would be a hassle to do it. Loads of aftermarket Bling.
If I buy another the same, I might be dissapointed as no 2 bikes are the same.
I could buy somthing completely different, then when it doesnt handle the same, at least I know its a different bike, so will be different!
What do you reckon??????

I just did just that. My one was stock standard though. Insurance co offered to replace or give me the cash. I took a 2009 R6 for a ride but decided to stick with the Honda.

Trouble is its a Ducati!!! Cant imagine a Sprint ST at 30 kilos heavier and no 'fully adjustable suspension' will carve the downspeed corners the same. I know u can work on the forks to get rid of the DIVE DIVE DIVE, but again, afraid might be dissapointed in another Ducati if it doesnt carve as good as the old one.

Absolutely not, but again, I had a Hyosung.
I'd rather contract VD than have another Hyosung.

Yeh, but see...Ur on a 96 600ss Ducati, not a CB400 four. Would u buy another 600 SS if u crashed and burned?

Hmm a ST4s vs dam near anything else is not fair I mean ABS, Ohlins front and rear, and it a Duke, hmm perhaps except a ST3s later model, all the same features just a slightly different engine.
I know were I would be looking.

Of course - if it was your best bike ever why not buy another best bike ever.
Surely doing otherwise would be like dumping your best girl ever and replacing her with her dowdy sister :shifty:

Depends on your personality type.
Are you the type of person that likes change, exploring new things, travelling, eating at new restaurants or ordering differnt dishes etc? If so then buy a new one.
If you like security, always order the tika masala, stay at a job for 10 years and only holiday to Aus or Fiji then get the same bike.
Neither is right or wrong, but it aint rocket surgery either.

Grass is always greener eh......
If I wrote mine off I'd consider it an unplanned upgrade. I'm already mulling over switching to a naked, motard or thou or maybe even a twin for my next bike even though I love my 600rr to bits.
With so many different bikes to love you have to get to know a few intimately I reckon.
Does that make me a slut?

I did it.
I had a 02 Hayabusa that had 20k on it when I got it second hand. I rode it for 2 years, and bought a new K7.
The K8 was not available yet, but I was happy with the Busa being as much of everything as I would ever need, and I had never had a brand new bike, I had some $$ (for once) and I took the plunge.
I love my Busa!

I tried to when my nc30 was stolen, but unintentionally ended up with the nc35 - and i don't buy bikes with the intention of selling them again
the real question you should be asking yourself is, were you finished with your bike?
trademe900 bought and sold about four nc30 in 2008!

Its healthy to keep an open mind. I'd like to test a Superduke, an Aprillia, and a Buell. I suspect that this'd confirm the ST4 is the bike for me but without checking, who knows? I do know that no multi has ever felt right since I got the Duke. :Pokey:
Yes, I'd buy another Ducati, probably an ST3.

I'm a wheeler and dealer, always buying and selling my vehicles, but for christs sake. Why did he buy and sell 4 NC30s? Were they all lemons?

It's not that hard: test-ride a heap of <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"><meta name="ProgId" content="Word.Document"><meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 11"><meta name="Originator" content="Microsoft Word 11"><link rel="File-List" href="file:///C:%5CDOCUME%7E1%5CIAN%7E1.CAM%5CLOCALS%7E1%5CTemp% 5Cmsohtml1%5C01%5Cclip_filelist.xml"><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:PunctuationKerning/> <w:ValidateAgainstSchemas/> <w:SaveIfXMLInvalid>false</w:SaveIfXMLInvalid> <w:IgnoreMixedContent>false</w:IgnoreMixedContent> <w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText>false</w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText> <w:Compatibility> <w:BreakWrappedTables/> <w:SnapToGridInCell/> <w:WrapTextWithPunct/> <w:UseAsianBreakRules/> <w:DontGrowAutofit/> </w:Compatibility> <w:BrowserLevel>MicrosoftInternetExplorer4</w:BrowserLevel> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:LatentStyles DefLockedState="false" LatentStyleCount="156"> </w:LatentStyles> </xml><![endif]--><style> <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Verdana; panose-1:2 11 6 4 3 5 4 4 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:536871559 0 0 0 415 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt; mso-header-margin:36.0pt; mso-footer-margin:36.0pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --></style><s></s> possible replacements. If they're better'n your Duke, great! If they're not, then either do a Steel Awesome on the dead one ("We can rebuild him! We can make him better than he was before!!") or get another Duke as close as possible in spec, and work from there.

When you find a bike you gel with that does everything you want and you know it inside and out and enjoy riding it and have been hard pressed to find anything better: even after riding other bikes etc, then stick with what you know.
I traded my K2 GSX1400 after running up another 30,000kms on it for the latest model back at the end of 06, only cos I got a real good trade in deal.
I've since done 27,000kms on my 'new' one and have never regretted buying the same and have still not come across anything I would consider a replacement at this point. Other bikes have been tempting and some I might consider seriosuly but not at the price they are.

I've had some that I intended to keep (or at least, hadn't thought about replacing), but none that were so good I'd replace them if I could with the same bike.

In my case, the evidence suggests the contrary.
I have loved all of the bikes I've ever owned, with the possible exception of my ST1300.

Anything other than a duke will be a let down and you'll miss it!
All I can say is throwing a leg over something other than a duke will be depressing...... know what I mean?
Italian bikes are about emotion.
If you want the fastest, sharpest, trickest bike on the planet, buy Japanese and follow the crowd.
But if you want a bike to stir you deep inside every time you open the garage door,
a bike you will spend hours cleaning just for the sake of it,
a bike that will make you shudder every time you hit the starter button and grin like an idiot behind a dark visor on the open road, there is none better.

9th January 2009, 12:43
I've got an R1 these days but I used to have a 91 FZR1000 and now I have the R1 I see just how nice the FZR was. The R1 looks more like a wippet than the old bike but the FZR is way more smooth to ride. If it wasn't for the fact that I like how the R1 looks I'd have an FZR in a heart beat.
If you don't try, you never know. (not applicable if married)

depends what you are after, where you are at in your bike experience....try the more modern version (s) of your bike, then if you are still of the opinion the st4 is you get another one....you can always change it again later.Perfect opportunity to evolve, adapt, change.I seriously doubt that one st4 wont be very much like the next one, with your exp I am sure you could pick the friday bike

I was looking for something a bit newer than the 900SD I have had for 22 years, its powerful enough for me with 65 hp. what I really wanted was a new 900SD....but alas they don't make them any more.
So now I have a 900ss ie....great. Just need to buy a few of the special tools and I'm sorted.

Seeing as Ducati no longer make the ST you may have trouble finding a 2nd hand one that compares to the one you had. There are rumors that Ducati may fill the gap left by the demise of the SportTourer and SuperSport models in a year or two.Perhaps try something like a S4R Monster for now and see what they come up with.
I have only had my current duc for a few months but if something was to happen to it I would definately buy the same bike again. Its not perfect, but it is the most fun bike I have ever ridden.:Punk:

Cept to bastadise Alan B,s lovely quote, I have dumped the dowdy Sister and getting the best girl ever.....S4 to S4Rs:
To qualify that a little, you have to be very happy with what you had to go the same or similar.

What I would no is buy a different bike to experience something different and if you really like the duc you can get another one a few years down the road.
This is what Im doing at the moment and like a bit of a change

I'd definitely replace the Connie with a Connie. It is the only bike I've owned that I can't see myself selling. As for my little red toy, well I got it for a song (and would never have bought it otherwise) so I'd have to find another good deal or just go back to be a 1 bike family.
