Does anyone have a recommendation for one or more wreckers of bikes in Christchurch?

I had a look in the phone book at only place that caught my eye was a place called Japanese Bike Wreckers. Went there and they were closed with a sign saying they were moving.

But.. I think that sign has been there a long long time.

I'm not looking for anything in particular other than maybe some old mufflers and a fender to cut down. Possibly an old heap with working engine that I can convert to a rat bike chopper.

I just want to wander around to see what's there to see, and maybe get some inspiration

Bad news is you could not just wander around there anyhow, we are a bit thin on the ground now with wreckers, there is one attached to the 4x4 place on Falsgrave street but I am not sure how they are setup.

Oh for the good old days when we had decent wreckers here and OSH rules had not ruined the ability to look at what we were buying.

Tardme and E-Bay have killed the acces to a lot of wreckers, they can do mor buss on line with less hassel and better profits than dealing with arrogant kiwis who never want to pay more than a $1 for parts.
The wrecker you visited is still in business, but has moved for that reason, but still trades online. Does more sales overseas than in NZ.
Better people to deal with are his words.
Good luck in finding a bike to toy with that has a running mtr.
Kiwis have habit of running a mtr till its totaly fucked before tossing it into the wreckers yard,
You would be better trying the insurance auctions for one with minor frame damage.

Thanks I'll go have a nosey at falsgrave, hope they let me wander around.

When I've used wreckers to get car parts they've let me have a look although I wasn't at the time looking for nothing in particular.

Especially when the part is $0.50c part :oi-grr:

go have a yarn to don at pitlane. he bought up a wrecker a couple of years ago and has a heap of parts lying about and usually lets you wander around and check it out. but its all pretty old stuff.

I wish I had thought of finding wreckers to do some projects while I had a month off work - alas I only thought of it this week!

Anyway, I'm in a pickle - I need to locate a holesaw set. I bought the bit that I needed only to find out it didn't suit the setup I had, so I went to buy a die set to rethread the shaft rod I was putting the holesaw onto, and the die set broke.

So before I go buying more crap.. anyone got either a die set or a holesaw set?

No biggy if not, I'll get one of the engineers to make the thing I need for me at work sometime next week.

Yeah Simon (TinTin1212) does wreck a heap of bikes, lists up about 6 at a time but has about 50 stored in various states of repair

ok thanks. He's just got a running sports bike up at the moment. Will keep an eye out.

Main thing looking at right now is a front fender to modify, and also working on my exhausts some more.
