It's my happy music...

is it the same for anyone else out there??

misistry of sound type stuff...

if not, what is your type of music that makes you happy/want to dance/cheery/want to laugh??

peace out from a Rolex wearer (if you have ministry of sound annual 09 you may know what i mean here)

Slayer relaxes me like nothing else can. Instant calm in the face of chaos.

Strangely enough electronic beats make me hate people.

Always get a good chuckle from anyone of a dozen Suicidal Tendencies albums, but especially the self-titled début album.

I quite like a lot of different types of music, but metal and punk are probably my fav'.(they're the easiest to jam along to)

The cool thing about electro' music is there's metal and punk styles in there too.(prodigy is a good example.)

BTW.....happy birthday Curious_AJ

Slayer relaxes me like nothing else can. Instant calm in the face of chaos.

I feel the same way. Anorexia Nervosa calms me down, despite it being the most intense music I've heard.

But generally I relax listening to Anathema, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Kyuss, The Cult, and several others.

I've only gone so far as listening to Mindless Self Indulgence and don't know enough about electronic music yet to delve further.

I've always been a fan of electronic music ... it's weird i cant really remember when i didnt like it... I love dancing and it helps me do so haha!

i'm also getting into comet poi, fire poi and sticks and flagging... so it's excellent for those too.

Is Suicidal tendencies still around? Is it still a functioning band? I used to listen to it back when Flotsom & Jetsom still had a metallica member in it. Oh how my flavour of music has changed Live...fav band of all time. There songs give me the warm and fuzzies.

agreed... and this thread wasnt meant for dissing. If you have nothing to contribute to it vifferman (tell us your happy music) then buzz off please

as for it being soulless... yes, maybe some of the mainstream is a little commercial, but the same with ANY music... I reckon a lot of the newer rock bands etc are soulless commerical shyte bags, but thats just me.. i don't diss people for what they listen to.

most electronic music that I listen to has a great feel and a great amount of body AND soul to it.. you just have to find the right artists/DJs.

In that case (and in that vein), I'm positive most of my music is of neither the happy nor electronica genre.
But among the very varied and very many things I listen to, the looniness of (early) Talking Heads, B52s, Devo and (later) Modest Mouse pleases me.

Regrettably, although I've had plenty in the past, the only electronica I currently have in my collection is Radiohead, which I don't reckon much.
If I want to listen to electronica, my sons have a large collection, including The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, and some stuff they put together themselves.

you may be too old, OR just different strokes for different folks love, I have come across a lot of men and women around your age (took a look at your profile hehe) who ARE into rave, trance, House etc etc. If you couldn't get into it even when you took the right jubes, then yep, it's just not your thing.. hehe...

it's like me, I went to "boogie wonderland" in auckland city and to be honest I just couldnt get into it that night no matter how much I drank... 70's disco etc was what was playing... then again, I do like the Bee Gees etc... generally I guess it's not my thing, but there are snippets that I do enjoy. I guess one just needs to find a niche in a certain genre that appeals, and if you dont, well, it's just not your thing ... hehe... :sunny:

Leftism by Leftfield. THE electronic album of all time

There was some good tunes to come out of the late 80's and early-mid 90's

My fav's of this era were
Technotronic ( with a track eventually hitting #2 on the Hot 100 in late 1989/early 1990, becoming the first ever house record to break through to the pop mainstream)
The KLF
Eskimos in Egypt
Bingo Boys
...to name a few. I still have some 12" EP's lying around. It's all (if not a little dated) still great stuff!!

Im a fan too!!!
Went to a sweet rave in Dunedin in my first year 'Crave' - rave in a cave on long beach.
Was the best one I have ever been to, pity they cancelled it the year after, citing 'damage to the beach' which seemed a bit bullshit to me cos there was always big clean-ups afterwards

It's really drum 'n bass and not electronica, but here's the title track of an album by band probably unknown here in good old NZ.

Chill out to 'Londinium' by Archive, with possibly the most haunting end to any song I've ever heard - think The Beatles 'A Day In The Life' for reference...

I like electronica, trance, dance etc, I basically decide whether I like each track. Underground stuff the public doesn't know, to more mainstream like goldfrapp, lady gaga, september.

Probably one of my favs at the mo:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_kTAnnimhy0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_kTAnnimhy0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I also enjoy A State of Trance (radio show), 2 hours every week, for listening to stuff you wouldn't normally come across. Except I download the lot. 60GB+ and I'm only up to episode 350 (there's 385 odd at the moment).

thats what the boring cookie cutter club stuff is like, aimed at pilled out clubbers who could care less about production and quality.they just want the unrelenting bass...its all tribal like back in the caveman days when man used to drink cactus juice and shrooms and dance around a fire until they collapsed or died of exhaustion.(not that its not fun for a while;))

i like to go a bit deeper, and most clubs dont have that quality.live gigs and my stereo(my nearest heighbours are 2km away) are where its at for me.:woohoo:
