DMNTD
9th January 2009, 22:10
Right...I've finally got a week off and I'm sick of bastard bikers coming into work telling how great their day of riding has been so tomorrow afternoon I'm off on a fairly unplanned trip for 5-7 days on my Duc.
Yeah I know it's not the most ideal touring bike but Unit has got the ZX14 up north atm so a honky has to make do.
Got myself a small back pack full of the essentials and will have to simply buy clean clothes as I go (read...go to the Warehouse).
So if you see a lost looking dude on a bleck 1098S pootling along wave out and show me where the local pub is will ya!
Plan....leave Tauranga tomorrow and head south...Inter Island ferry on Monday afternoon...ride south...ferry next Thursday,maybe...Tauranga next Saturday... :sunny:

Me neither. Well, I've been there, but not ridden the track. Been watching videos of laps recently. Looks mint! Fast, wide and fun.

Hey Chris, if you need a place to stay in the far far south and to park the 1098 you're welcome to use the spare room and the garage (the 1098 goes in the spare room - you can sleep in the garage ) Just PM me.

Weather outlook is good for down here Mon-Tue-Wed so far.

I dont know how cracked ribs feel, but those drains for punchtured lungs are a BASTARD. Give it 24 hours and it will be blown back up again, hopefully. I found I could hardly turn over or move at all with the drain inside me because it would stab the inside of my rib cage...

Get well soon man... take it easy.

Well its been a long day, but a lot of progress made this afternoon/evening.
As Chris said (from his hospital bed posting on his cellphone ) 9 ribs broken in 19 places, both front and back left hand side. Also a broken left shoulder collar bone, and left lung was punctured and collapsed but was re inflated and has been draining for 24+ hours. Chris managed a 50mtr sprint down the corridor tonight (well, we werent timing him), and the movement was good for the draining of the lung. Reports are Chris not at fault (well hello, left side smashed at a round about, give way to the right isnt it?).
I'll check out the bike tomorrow, and we will work through another day.
Cheers for all the support and help today people, you know who you are

Right...just got back from the hospital via the pub :sunny:
Happy the drain from my lung has done its business so well!

Huge thanks to all of those that have helped out Annette and myself

Yes if the 1098S is as toasted as what it appears, a replacement bike has already been sorted for me but for now it's all about the healing :woohoo:

Glad to hear you made it to the pub OK :msn-wink:

Was gonna bake a squashed banana cake for you, but now that you going to be a house bitch for a wee while I will let you bake me one...cake that is, banana cake that is!

Seriously, glad you have come out of this reasonably unscathed. The world wouldn't be the same without our wee Chris

LOL, after visiting last night you would be hard pressed to think much was wrong! Apart from the fact it hurt to laugh:nono:, the problam was though it was Chris cracking the jokes!

He had a rum and coke on the bedside table to stare at and plenty of mags to read, plus he had pretty much ordered himself a new bike!

I think its going to take more than a small truck to keep the DMNTD one on his arse! Good on ya mate. Oko tomorrow.......?

Holy crapola on a Jesus wafer cracker!:gob:

I was just reading this thread and just back from Gremlin and my trip to the SI and I was thinking "Jammy bastard doing it the way I wanted to do it" ... and then as I read on I was a stunned mullet.

Blinking blardy gates of Gehenna! The biker gods hate it when you ride slowly man! We already worked out that if you did that, they punish you!

Reading the rest of the posts was a crack up, you are one tough sonofabitch! It seems the horspital has learnt their lesson from your last visit and just let you get on with healing in your own demented way!

I think you need a riding holiday when you recover from your attempt at a riding holiday!

HUGE thanks to Kiwibike Insurance (http://www.kiwibike.co.nz/) for making the process easier for me!
Bike has now been officially written off which is sort of sucky but would never feel right is someone rode the bike again due to the impact it has received.

Slow but sure I'm getting there. I reckon I'll be ready by the time my bike turns up (4 weeks) to at least be able to pootle around but I'm guessing that it'll be a while before I'm back to my version of normal.

was collected by a car failing to give way at a round a bout. no trip, no bike.
These guys did it! They jinxed you:

Don't Bin! :sunny:

:msn-wink:

An unplanned trip on a black Ducati?

In my experience, it will end badly.

Have fun (jealous)

Both of them tempted fate and taunted the BikerGodz, who then smote you with their mighty smoting smiters!

Anyway, I hope you heal fast and heal well. All the best to you, Dr DMNTD!

TBH I have no idea at all. I remember entering the roundabout and then I came to with people screaming and carrying on as if there'd been some sort of accident...my bad :pinch:

Had a cop over here last week asking me to fill out a victim impact report and found out that they thought it was so serious that they had sent someone over to find a family member to come and see me whilst I was still alive.
Poor family...I'm still blabbing like normal :dodge:
