Right, this is going to stir a few emotions up.
On a local forum a member whom lives out on the peninsula started up a thread yesterday giving locals the unoficial heads up.

SH75 is just about the busiest Ive ever seen it in the 20 years I have lived on it. More silver or white japanese shopping baskets nose to tail at 70-80 ks than I have ever seen. With the tragic bit that happened recently we know that there will be more enforcement officials on the highway. Seen two plainclothes in the last day, cruising.

Prior to the accidents our local boys in blue based in Akaroa were doing a bit of a moan about 'us types', and our last local rag had an article by them specifically mentioning 'crazy motorcyclists' actually trying to make the Hilltop from Little River in 2.5 minutes.Hmm. Ludicrous? I reckon.

What it does mean is that they want us and dont mind talking shit to the general public about us. Street and Sports last newsletter had an interesting report about how less of us are killing ourselves now than a few years ago.
Just statistics but it doesn't say what they want everyone else to believe. Nothing changes.

Be aware that a couple of m/c haters in the form of the local cops are waiting for you. Keep your eyes peeled

heres what I have to say on the matter...

Good thread 4x2... prepear for ginga nut out, 3-2-1...

This sort a shit farks me off, why because as usual the very few FUK WITS (9 times out of 10 on a gsxr) minority screw it for the marjority.
Just want to add to that comment tho there seems to be a lot of born again older riders out there at the moment that think they are still 17 and bikes only have 23hp, I find some of these riders strugling to ride saftley.

Yip I frequent this road/ride and yes at times I am crusing at 120k, this only done when traffic is low and I will add as with the people I ride wite we are able to do 120k WITH OUT moving out of our lane.

So these dip shits that cant ride for shit, pass on the straights at 200k, cut in on cars, pass on blind corners yet cant corner a sweet line to save them selves (even tho they think they are the mutts nutts in riding ability) end up pissing the coppers and the public off and worst of all tar us ALL with the same brush.

What else... yeah the cops, ya local rag 4x2, thats just bullshit propergander aimed at turning the public against all riders. Hell in recent rides/drives in that direction I have come around a 100k corner at 100k to find a bloody cage sitting at 60-80kph, death traps waiting to happen, sight seers in campers, yeah I relise they are here to 'sight see' but for christ sakes not on a brow of a hill or apex of a corner... pull over get out and take some decent photos.

Yip I have noticed an increase in cops on that road, hiding in nasty places... but thats ok IF and only IF thay attack the right people yes there are those out there that need a tune up and Im not just talking about bor racers on BIKES, but them homo boy racer drifters.

Case in point I was nicked on Dunbars rd at 60k in a 50k (dunbars rd averages 70k) in great grand mars swift... a wee willy wanker came out 2 corners up doing a wheelie in some kinda POS cage, cop didnt batter an eyelid.

So I dont need to warn those I ride with about the cops on S/H75 and Im sure they are awear of the traffic issues, hell back in the 80's when we knew 75 as the Akaroa GP it was safe enough, that name has really died with the increase of population, however those that still take 75 on with that attude will get a fright sooner or later and once again we all will be penalized.

Mighjt have to sell my bike...don't want people thinking I'm one of those FUK WITS...there again...might put a sign on my bike, "1 out of 10" :innocent:

Agree with your comments there Dangerous for the most part. It's not a road I frequent as usually the days I'd like to go out there it's blistering hot and every man and his dog are heading out there. Last time was Labour day 2008 and I averaged maybe 30-40 km/hr from Little River to the Hill Top.

I'm sure others (most likely the minority you speak of) would have "found a gap" but that's how these incidents happen and people get pissed off or hurt. And once again motorcyclists are targeted as reckless etc...

Granted the stupid few will ruin it for the rest as will always be the case. It would be nice if those stupid few would get the message before they either kill themselves, or worse yet kill someone else or "break the camels back" as it were. Although I suspect, as 4x2 has commented, it may already be broken.

i'v only been there 3 times this season due to the cops and traffic , and stay away from it now, but mind you i came across a cop up dyers pass rd on sat that was a strange place to see one parked up.
But if i come back to it i'll start going over a 5 am in the moring like i use to 6 yers ago to get a good clean run over and back b4 the cage drivers come out, there only a couple on the road at that time. As for for what other are doing its all up to them as if they want to go over and kill them self so be it, lunch time sunday and take all the stupid moves under the sun

I’m a bit tired of self righteous FUK WITS who criticise and blame everyone else based on their self inflated opinion of their own ability to ride better than anyone else, and feel the need to express this on KB – I include myself here, as I would never read a post like this and think it was about me, because obviously I’m a bloody fantastic rider who has the ability to take calculated risks and not put anyone at danger, just don’t ask the anyone else abut my riding – they may think I ride like a FUK WIT

You are quite right D a few will stuff it up, I avoid Akaroa what's the point? I hear folks race over there have a latte, sit on the water front and be noticed, by who I have often wondered.

Smoky come ride the road in season as it si now you will soon get the point of the post, or perhaps not....

Yes, I have to agree with most of original poster as well

However, if you are riding safe and such that you won't also get pulled over the Akaroa ride is still a nice one to do.

As for people who ride over and sit on the water front and be seen.. well I have to say JM just ask Kram and Grubby about asian ladies in white wet tshirts. Need I say more? :D

Oh and the waterfront is beautiful!

I'm seriously thinking about starting to ride like a real old cautious nana. Some say I do already but "not on this forum, please".

I was walking on the summit road yesterday and there's a yoof in a Legnum pulling a three point turn on a blind corner.

Later on a knob in a dark blue 4WD comes around another blind corner straddling the white line. In either instance, a biker coming along would have crashed into the bastards and in both cases probably KILLED.

Visitors to this country sometimes write letters to the editors of major newspapers about the crap driving they see in this country before they fly out.

Face it, the average New Zealander can't drive for shit! Does that include you?

Not if they have been given a quota, or incentive to chase bikes, unfortunately

I personally have never seen someone pulled over for no reason.

Out of the two times I've been pulled over, once was because I was speeding and my bike was two loud, the other time the whole group of us was speeding down a passing lane straight.. and turned out he had only pulled us over to ask us if we'd seen a bike crash on the way because he's trying to locate it.

And once one of the guys got pulled over outside a rally at around 1am, when we left to go riding. Fair enough - they we breath testing anyone leaving the rally at night and early morning.

In other words, I haven't seen someone pulled over for doing the speed limit and riding in the correct lane and not doing dangerous passing.

But then that's not to say it doesn't happen.

If you nice, I'm sure Kram and Grubby would share photos of said event. I bet they took photos :P

When I was in the third form in nineteen sixty something it was compulsory viewing and you had to watch the USA road crash films.

A guy screaming in pain on a stretcher, bodies and limbs everywhere. Arse-holes, teeth and eyeballs strewn all over the roads. That was a wake-up call.

Can't do it today. Little Jimmy might crap his pants.

Likewise, teaching kids to swim in the school pool. No way, that infringes his or her "right" to choose to not to learn. Hence the huge drowning statistics in God's Own Country.

This country needs a massive dose of Sharpen-the-Bloody-Hell-Up!!

Last week I was at the Blue Duck cafe on SH75 talking to two coppers who'd just dealt with an incident there (wheel came off a trailer rounding the bend and hit someone). They told me that the police are targeting bikes at the moment and mentioned SH1 specifically. One said that he thinks it's about 15% of bikers who spoil it for the rest (though I'd have thought it was less).

Not a lot you can do. Just ride as defensively as you can and hope the dickheads find another toy to amuse themselves with.

Good choice of bike by the way there Dangerous.

Can I just point out, that although I've never ridden the road, I thought the worst offender would have been our good mate on the R1? Thought that was his patch?

How is Aaron (to take a thread off topic), anyone heard from him recently?
