Can you tap out the hinge pin with a hammer? Good luck

Two strong paper clips s, bend the one and use it as a tension wrench and straighten the other and use it to pick at the pins. Then voila she will open with some fiddling

Most of the older cupboard keys are very basic and theres not too many different types, If you know roughly what it looks like a locksmith or key cutter will most likely have it on the shelf, if its a padlock, just cut it or if it looks like a door lock you can drill it straight through the guts and just replace the lock later.

Good point ... it is older ... so I will take a picture and take that down to the smithy :)

It doesn't appear to be a lock where you can drill without damaging other stuff unfortunately.

Cheers Guys

If the key has a hole in the end of the shaft (can you see a pin in the centre of the key hole?) there are only 3 or 4 premade keys in that very popular type of lock. From memory that is.

I know those one's... key number is on the other side of the lock... :innocent:

OR as been suggested, punch the hinge pins out. Spray a bit of CRC on it first...:sunny:

It looks like an older style key, but it is a more modern cupboard.
The door looks like it overlays the carcase.
Is there the same door on the other side of the cabinet? If so, once again, piccies please.

There won't be a pin in the lock. Hinge is tricky at the moment.

No its a single door in the suite ... only lock too .. bugger bugger bugger!!

How is the back held onto the cabinet?

If it is in a rebate, it may be glued = slight problem...

If it is proud of the surface it might be able to prise it off (carefully) with a broad chisel.

So the back is sitting up from the surface?
A broad chisel and a bit of TLC* would get this off and access gained. The lock can then be dealt with from inside.

There will only be a couple of screws holding them in place. Easily removed from the back!

Excellent suggestions. Personally if there is a mirror involved, I'd be a bit windy about chiselling and hammering. You'd be better to take a few more pics of the lock and ask a locksmith. Or try to get the hinge pins out if they are accessible.

All I can say is that you have a quite a nice cupboard. Not really worth smashing it up or drilling it aye, however if you got to do, you gotta.

Pays to have spare copies of keys lying around!

Hi Nasty. Sorry to hear about your lock problem. Before you damage this nice cabinet take those photos down to the Lock Doctor in Porirua centre and see what he has to say.

The mirror will be held on by a simple clip system and will be able to be lifted off before starting.

Maybe you're better off leaving this alone. Maybe he hid the keys for a reason.

Maybe I have it wrong - I thought this was a mirrored cupboard with the mirror inside attached to the back. Or mirrored shelves supported at the back. Wonderful mystery...
