I'll be around Sunday. All my mates have left me for Paeroa so I'll be keen to meet up with anyone anywhere.

So, ALL your mates have gone to Paeroa then? Oh well, you'll have to ride with "us" then... hehehehe

I'll be going out sat and sun. Would be great to ride with someone. On your own is good, but not every time. I'm hoping to go out early both days (around 8:30 at Caltex). Then maybe late brekky or lunch at the fish (someones last day there :()

Will check on this thread later tonight.

Whats the problem with it? I was lucky, I "eliminated my fender" with a jigsaw, and it looks like a factory fender now  It could have gone bad, quick...

Ok you got me. I haven't got any friends really. 8:30 at Caltex is a bit early mate. You know I live half way up the North Is in Paraparaumu.

We'll catch up Sunday at some stage though. When I know what I'm doing I'll let you know.

I don't mind leaving a little later, even 10:30 if it's easier for everyone? Just shout if you're up for it.

It's a Hamicad bolt on from Britain, (the fender eliminator) and yes I got home after a day fixing computer stuff and ran out of patience, tomorrow is another day. God the bike's back end looks like I have been rear ended... the hack saw method sounds like not a bad idea, but now I have started something I gotta follow through.

Jimbo... Early start is well worth it.

Went out for a ride with Munter, Jim2 and MrMelon a few weeks back... 8:30am Caltex Rimutaka... Yurk I thought !... But Paekak hill at around 7:30 Sunday is frecking awesome... No traffic... No-one... crisp air, the smell of dew on the grass, exhaust echoing off the hills... Best ride I've EVER had over there on the whale...

Heh heh... Rimutakas after that were a let down... got stuck in traffic behind a tanker and a bunch of girls who can't ride motorbikes. :)

Ah well. Maybe us Kapiti coasters should organise a Sunday ride and drag a few of those Wgtn people out this way so they know how it feels.

Head up through the Manawatu gorge or Paihiatua track and food at 'beyond the bridge' or 'Boots 'n' Braces', then back throught the Wairarapa and Takas, Haywards, Paekak hill and home.

Whadda ya reckon ? We'd only have to be ready to go around 9.

Now thats what I like, a man with a plan! I hope one of those places you mentioned on the Pahiatua track is that great restaurant in the middle of nowhere, with outdoor seating. I think they also have horse rides there. Really beautiful.

I'm on parental duty this Sunday AM... But next week would be cool... I'll see if I can drum up a couple of people... I'm sure I've offended enough on here that they'd want to get together and collectively kick my arse... Heh heh... or I could buy every one a coffee and they could forgive me and think what a nice guy I am till the laxitives I put in start working. };>

Spooky, what do you mean? You musn't be afraid to come out riding with KB groups, there will always be someone (me included) who is happy to ride at a leisurely pace. I'll be going out tomorrow too. Probably on a longer ride to Palmy, and pahiatua track...

I'll be in for a 10.00am start. :2thumbsup

Spookey: I'm ride fairly slow. Could take the KLX250 even... (That'll keepme to 135kmh tops if there's no headwind - but who does those sorts of speeds anyway?)

Maybe we could leave a little later than that, and maybe Skunk could come a little earlier? How about meet 09:15 at Caltex, leave 09:30, off over the hill to Flying Fish for coffee/breakfast. Then if you're feeling adventurous, Gladstone hill to Masterton, Pahiatua track to Palmy and home. There is an amazing cafe on the Pahiatua track :2thumbsup Only thing, thats a pretty full on ride, and the ride home down SH1 is boring as HELL. Still, I don't mind if you're up for it.

OH, one other thing... I don't actually know how to get to the Pahiatua track from Masterton. I know it's not far, but I'll get lost. (I can get to it from Palmy, just not Masterton).

I reckon it'd be a full days ride, getting back late afternoon. This is only a suggestion, even if we turn back home after the Fish, I'm happy. What say you savage?

*EDIT* I see Hooks is viewing the thread :D If time is in abundance, we COULD stop in and terrorise the Hooks clan. :spudwave:

*EDIT 2* I see spooky can't stay out all day. Maybe some could leave the group at a certain point? It's still early yet, hopefully I can get some more people on the ride. Check back on here before you go to bed.

I'd have to be back by 4pm.
And I can find the Pahiatua track easy. :2thumbsup
That cafe - isn't it up at the Manawatu Gorge? 'Beyond the Bridge Cafe' I think it's called.
Let's just raid Hook's place for food... :shake:

1. Thought the only cafe was on the Manawatu gorge... 'Beyond the Bridge'... IE go thru the gorge from Kapiti side and then turn right. If I'm missing out let me know !

2. SH1 is REALLY FRECKING boring... That's why I was suggesting doing it the other way... 1/2 hour up the highway (an hour for you WGTN suckers, but you could do the Haywards and Paekak on the way oevr) and you're all warmed up ready to go in the AM, thru the gorge for coffee and a muffin at BtB, up to Paihiatua, thru the track, back thru track or gorge again :)... Down thru Wairarapa to the Fish for lunch and then back over Takas, Paekak and I'm home... That way I get all twisty roads after the first half hour or so till I get home.

Sweet.

I'll be doing this in a couple of weeks when I've built up enough brownie points with the Mrs.

Man... My little boy woke up at 6:30 this morning and I'm only just making my first coffee now ! I've gotta cut down on his sugar intake or something.

Let me know what you thought of the track and gorge SC... In fact you're probably riding thru it right now, sigh.

Sedge.

Sedge, I've done that ride before, it's really good. I still think you have missed a cafe on the actual track, if I'm mistaken - my apologies :yeah: I'll come on that ride you are planning, and I can show you. (or vica versa!)

Myself, Slingshot, Ms Slingshot, Skunk, Doug_Green and Ms Doug Green I think, met at Caltex. Went over the hill, around lake Wairarapa and to the Fish for lunch. It was my first time on that lake road, I never knew it existed till now. It was one of the faster rides I've been on, man can those Green's ride!

We all headed home after the Fish, my reason was as follows:

I'm happy to have been riding with experienced / observant riders. Doug pointed out that my rear tyre was "wearing a little thin". I thought it best to head straight home, and make my next ride to Sawyers. The attached picture is what it looked like when I got home. It wasn't too much better in Martinborough. Folks, check your tyres regularly! I had noticed mine was looking a little chewed up, but the current state my tyre is in, happened in 1 day. They are Diablo Corsas. I can't remember exactly, but they must have done about 5000 kms, which is what I was expecting, just hadn't realised how much I've been riding lately.

*EDIT* The steel belts are only showing on about 1/3 of the tyre, which is why I must have missed it. Bad luck must have just had the good parts facing me when I left this morning.

Apart from the darn cost, it's good they need replacing now. I'll get Sawyers to fit a few other things while it's in the shop.

Off to wash the bike :done:

Heh heh... did that to the rear on my old ZXR750... thought I was a real superbike rider on the way home over the Paekak hill one evening, backing in to corners, powersliding out... Awesome fun, thought I'd suddenly become Garry McCoy...

Till I saw the tyre the next day and worked out what all the sliding was from... couldn't see it that night coz I'd parked on the bit with the canvas sticking out !

weren't you the one that said something to a certain rider about tyres once??? :Pokey:

tyres are the main thing I check on my bike... after all, they are the bits hold it to the road....

Hey Dave .... Hell Burnout at Sawyers in the morning !!! >>>> give it death man ... I showed ya how now you get down and do one !! :shake: :2thumbsup

StoneChucker
20th February 2005, 17:54
Hooks: You know, I was actually thinking of doing a burnout there! I guess I'll see how I feel on the day.

And Blakamin: Yes I realised the irony of it... And yes, I did ride a little fast on it even after I knew. So, what can I say. Oh yes, go fuck yourself! hahahahahaha ( ;) )

*EDIT* Since my bike's on the rear stand, it's easy enough to give the tyre a quick rotation and check. Something I shall be doing once a week or so.

I was thinking of using a cheese slicer and slicing some of the tread off the sides, and supergluing it on the middle parts. Should be good for another 1 or 2000 kms.

Well bugger me... Mrs Ninja51 and I did a leisurely Caltex, Takas, Martinborough, Gladstone, Masterton, Takas and home yesterday... we were out between 12 and 5. Lunched at "Est" in Martinborough as there were no bikes at the Fish and we fancied a change. Had afternoon tea (how terribly English!) at the cafe by the cinema in Masterton. Brilliant twisties, brilliant weather for it too. There arent many green ZX9s about with a GB plate so come say hi if you see us next time.
