The Solar System consists of Matt Bleck and those celestial objects bound to it by gravity. These objects are the eight planets, their 166 known moons, five dwarf planets, and billions of small bodies. The small bodies include asteroids, icy Kuiper belt objects, comets, meteoroids, other motorcyclists and interplanetary dust.

Dwarfs?
On pit bikes? I thought they were specifically banned from track days?
Or are they the inter-session entertainment?

The Blundstone elastic sided leather boots (like the ones below) are not suitable as they could come off in a cropper...

If the Sorel mountain winter boots are like the one pictured below they will be ok.

MotoTT often books out quickly. You can always cancel your booking if circumstances change. As long as you're decent about it and give enough notice your spot will go to someone else on the waiting list or someone on the day.

Even if you're pre-paying you only have to pay about a week out to take advantage of the lower rate so I'd say book in soon.

I had a good day. The first couple of sessions I was riding pretty badly, I went off the track coming out of T11 2 times in a row in the second session. I was doing better in the 3rd, 4th and 5th sessions though. Last trackday I went to I was feeling ill at the end of the day and thought I might've been overheating, so I added some ventilation to my leathers which helped a tiny bit and also made more of an effort to cool down between sessions.

Here's some edited footage from session 4 of the yellow group:

If the passing rules were enforced there'd be no reason to exclude anyone from anything.

Motards are excluded from group 2 because ALOT of road bike riders are very uncomfortable riding around them... Enough of them for us to have a group without any motards.

Sweet.

Not intending on an argument, but were there a need to exclude motards from a group for the comfort of other riders, perhaps making it group 3 that has the exclusion instead. I am of the opinion that anyone riding up in group 2 should have the experience already and be comfortable with passing and being passed (safely). Unfortunately the group thing is just ego to some people and there were plenty of people who should have been in other groups on the day!

For the record, had a very good day. Felt very good, which I attribute to joining the gym at the start of the year and being significantly fitter and stronger. Could have just kept on going out there!

Like the man said, that's what group 1 is for.

After 4 days with MotoTT and time in groups 2, 3 and 4 it's my opinion that they have the format pretty much nailed.

Ya should jump up to G1, they aint no faster, shit i only had a few (not naming names here Dallas) that came past me and the motard boys were looking good up there too !
I don't know what the hype is with mixing motards in with sportbikes, Not like its a race or nothing, so i just hesitate if i come up on one on entry knowing they gonna go as fast (if not faster) as you round that corner and there's nothing prettier than watching some dude going sideways around the sweeper (aye Dooly) Was prolly you too Devil haha !
Found 90% of the tard guys in G1 were taking a wide line and holding it knowing the Sprot bikes are likely to come screaming through, Was Great fun !

Finally finished uploading to YouTube. Takes forever with 128kbps up speed on Go Large :(

Session 2 was my best but didn't have the camera on. By session 3 my legs we getting tired. Ah well better get back to the exercise bike! Had fun with the guy on the VTR1000 too. Pity some slower riders kept getting between us or I might have found a way past him.

Still, I'm pretty happy with my lines after deciding concentrate on lines rather than attacking the corners. I used to check my speedo and enter the double-apex onto the straight at 70+ so I'm obviously overestimating my speed. Figure that'll come right as I get used to judging speed with reference points rather than the speedo :)

Last trackday in NZ for me, and that was a very awesome one!!!
I had time to rest from the waking up at 4.30am by marshalling in the morning, and the bike felt really good for the three sessions in the afternoon!

My first session was the third session for the people in group 3 so I was pretty much the slowest, trying to warm myself and the bike up...By my second session, i let it go more, lining more and building my speed a little bit more and by the third session, i was knee down in T1, T5, and the hair pin :p

My only annoying moment: trying to pass safely on corners that girl on a green ninja that is doing half my speed in corners, but she keep pushing her bike at high speeds on straight to brake hard just in front of me at the entrance of the corner..just pissed me off, whats the f.. point of doing that??? so she kept having me following her close for the whole time, which might be pretty annoying for her, and was for me ..

Thanks to Sue and Allan for making it possible for me to ride in the afternoon, Pete and Fynn for the drive down (i'm not gonna miss 'close your window and boil for half an hour' games tho, ah boys! lol), Noel for the trailer, and all the people of MotoTT for another smooth trackday!

And here, my best pic of the day (from the pics i saw for now..):

Thanks for the tip mate. I feel slow through the 2-3-4 combo so I think you're right.

I find if I gas hard out of 2 or 3 I find myself coming into the next turn from the wrong angle. I think that's a result of not flicking the bike as quick as I should/can. The other part is not knowing how much lean I can get away with as I don't have a good knee-down leg position to get that as a gauge.

As quasi mentioned, T2, 3 and 4 are a great place to gain on people because of exactly the problem you're having.

You need to enter T2 at a moderate speed, then go honking through 3 and 4.
If you go too hard into T2, you'll just screw the rest up. It's one of those you need to go slower to go faster bits. and yes, if you cant turn the bike quickly you'll never get through there at speed. On a sportsbike in particular, you can save a lot of time by learning to slam the bike on its side faster.

Yep totally agree and can feel it's costing me time through there. I normally counter-steer much harder but without having the correct knee-down posture sorted I'm wary of slamming it down past the edge of the tyre.

Figured out why my knee isn't out poking out properly yesterday (foot angle on the peg) so next time should be more confident to chuck it around. It's not like the 600rr has a lack of turning ability :devil2:

Forget conscious counter steering, just man-handle it over it onto its side, much quicker :)

A lot of it has to do with correct body positioning. You should be aiming to keep your spine parallel with the bike when you're hanging off. If you just shift your arse off one side then you're pelvis becomes twisted in relation to your bike which affects your foot positioning and the angle of your knee.

Ensure you're moving your body before you start your steering movement, and yes, use counter steering.

....just one of the many things I need to be working on. I'll add it to the list, right above throttle blipping, late/hard braking, hitting an apex, aaaaand so on.

For sure. I already keep my body parallel with the bike but I just wasn't putting the the peg in the right spot on my boot to make me naturally rotate my leg out. I'd also never looked down to see how far my leg was sticking out. Was surprised how little it was compared to how it felt haha.

I've come to the conclusion that the speed three tank aint designed for track work lol
Couldnt understand why i was getting better times on the 955, but think one or two of the problems is, i have no grip on the tank when i hang off the 1050, where as the 955 has a nice roll half way down the tank to hook the knee into and the rear sets are 60 mm closer to the seat so i have more leverage !

When i do hang off, i start with full the intention of looking round the mirror (or where it was anyway) but find that because i aint got no grip with the leg I end up wrestling with the bike to stay on (come home with forearms of a gorrilla too) and of course the body ends up over the tank rather than hanging off (or i'd fall off lol) I'm not relaxed and as morc said, i am manhandling the bike through corners at times, with bugger all feel or counter steering and after a half doz laps i can feel myself fading and making mistakes due to fatigue (hey no one said ya have to be fit) It's almost like clockwork that the guy i'd been holding off for them 6 or so laps slips through, during one of them mistakes !
So the morral of the story is, if ya planning on hanging off a triple get yaself some stomp grip lol I might even do a bit of glassing to create a lip half way down the side of the tank, so i can hang off while its on the stand with no hands for instance ! Probably raise the rear sets 50 mm as well ! Then it's back to the track to try and lose the bad body position i've picked up and get that knee down before the 5th of april

Cheers richard for this vid i'll borrow, ya cant beat seeing for yaself ! Worth gold that vid is ! Your deffinately someone i'll be tagging and chase round the track to get my corner speed up mate, nice and smooth !
(they snuck up on me during a yellow flag by the way lol, ya can see the 600rr lying on the grass to the left of T9 at the beginning of the vid)

My very first ride on the speedie after I bought it, every time I braked, I'd slide into the tank balls first. Got home, got online and bought some stomp.

I was/am going to repaint the tank, so I haven't fitted it yet. might be time to move that one up the priority list.

Yeah think it has a little edge on the 600's on the exit of corners and similar top end to most, so if i keep a good line and dont fuck up i can hold most (TM) of em up ! The thou's frustrate me a bit with their str8 line speed haha Still recon i can up my corner speed heaps though ! Sitting here tossing up whether to slap some fibreglass on my tank lol or tape a roll onto it !
