Hey guys, fresh..ish back in NZ

well ive been over in scotland, and just got back to nz just before xmas,
im currently living in lyall bay, wellington.
these are the 2 wee bikes

1st my b120 5000km on the clock, she's my little commuter, she's not fast, but she's reliable :D

my current project is a bridgestone (the tyre manafactures) powered mini buffalo monkey bike, 60cc of 2 stroke rotary valve awesomeness,

she hadn't been started since 1974, and required quite a bit of work getting her running, especially considering bridgestone stopped making parts when they stopped making bikes in the early 70's
its running a modified ts50er conrod (same dimensions as original, except for the shaft width) nothing the angle grinder couldnt sort :D
a custom made crank pin, as no other bike ran the same size which was handy as no one made the big end bearing either, its on the original piston, but is running husky 45 chainsaw rings (they took alot of finding, not the rings but finding that husky 45 rings fit)
so after a few months of finding bits, remaking every gasket, replacing every bearing and oil seal, this was the first kick over

wow its kinda quiet in here?? no,
well the little smokey is still running quite well, if a little on the hot side,
may be im running a bit lean (fuel/air)
imstill going through the running in period so havnt give her a good thrash,
im dying to see how good this 6.8hp machine really is,
im quite impressed with the rotary valve setup, its a brilliant idea, i wonder why it never really caught on,

Maybe expense of manufacture compared to reed valves.Although in saying that they are supposed to be better power wise compared to reeds but even harder to keep on the pipe.Aprillias 250 GP bikes dealt to the japanese hoards in the end too.

no not run in yet, no not seized :D
im running it in quite rich, well quite rich compared to most bikes, but im going on bridgestones recomended oil/petrol ratios for the run in period,
i pulled the top last weekend and the bore and piston look sweet, the extra oil is doing its job thats for sure,
i dare say ill have to lean it out a bit, i couldnt find old skool castor based 2 stroke oil, so used a semi synth,

the bridgestones were awesome bikes in there day, shame they got forced out by the other big jap brands :D

You could try Castrol racing R30 castor based oil.It states for racing use only but i have heard of old brit 4 stroke bike racers using it.You prob won't find it at any bike shops but can get it at specialist engineering establishments,but it aint cheap.
I even put a drop in me lawnmower now and then to get that old skool racing smell haha (any excuse to get me out doin the lawns)But don't take my word on it as maybe someone more in the know might have more experience in using it as a two stroke mix.Anyone???


I read somewhere that there was a bit of skullduggery from the established jap brands concerning bridgestone manufacture.Or was it all above board?

yeah i think they pretty much said to bridgestone after they had won a few big races, that if they didnt stop making bikes they would all stop using there tyres on their bikes, and since the motorcycles were just a sideline for bridgestone, they just gave it up. which is a real shame as the gtr350 twin is pretty damn cool, all of the bikes they made all ran rotary valves both on the singles and the twins

I believe it is intended to be changed after a race meeting in a 4 stroke and used on twostrokes that are frequently stripped and cleaned.
It has no detergents and fancy additives in it so its not good for non-race use.
pob not that big of a deal in the 'mower tho as they could probably run with a spit lube.
