It's when you change down 5 gears really fast thats hard on the ankle.
much better though.
used to get confusing when i had my MX bike though.

Dan,
You were definitely going quicker up the hill this afternoon, sorry I spoilt your line into the left hand corner as I came down on the wifes F650GS. Went for a trip to Flat Point has a gravel road and I am not that skilled a rider to take the FZ1 on it.

If I recall - I was on the wrong side of the road anyway for the left hander....so that makes two of us....
Yeah it was a great today for a ride today - had clients to call on in Masterton - fecked if I was going to take the car.....
Great ride, warm tyres, warm sun....another mil off the sliders
Slowly getting used to the R1......and loving it
Think I may switch the bike back tho - some of those corners I reverted to my old 'pattern' and bogged the bike down

call me silly, and i am.. but what are you talking about? a mod you have done to the bike as you make it sound? or just a technique applied? id love to learn if so...

kk you NEED this mod on your bike 8-).
I think wkid1s talking about reversing the gearchange order eg. 1 up 5 down.

At one time this was the normal shift pattern and Triumph were the odd one out - then along came the Japs and we lost a better way to change gear.At one stage my stable of bikes all had right shift,up for 1st.

Yeah - just switching the gear pattern to reverse, more natural way to change gear when punting (if you don't forget you switched it - D'OH!)

Huh? how does turning you shift pattern upside down make things better????
I have no trouble with the present way on any bike I have ridden so could someone explain (in little easy-to-understand words) Cheers.

the reason behind the gear change for racing KK is that when your all lent over on your left hand side you wont have room to slip your foot under the gear change. So you reverse it. that way you can shift up through the gears coming out of corners with out wearing away your boots. (like I did):D

:gob: Yeah well the first time I have that problem I would be too busy filling my Y-fronts (notice how boxers are no good for motor bike riding - they are just as slippery BEFORE you shit youself as afterwards) to notice my boot was wearing away!!!!!
If you can ride hard enough to need a reverse gear shift-pattern I take my hat off to you!!

That was only "on track" and on a 125GP bike. I couldn't do that on the road with a "proper" bike without shitting myself too.

fuck i reckon.
and im usually busy changing down thru the corners anyways! or keep it in prolly a higher gear then most whilst halfway around putting power on, because im used to hard tyres, so if i was in a lower gear putting full power to the floor, my tyre would prolly spin, but now i got new tyres maybe they can take it, ahh well, i have my habbits. -use them against me on the track mitch and si
