Leathers - 1pc vs 2pc

Searched, but couldn't find any previous threads along the lines of this.

When it comes to leathers, I'm keen to hear your view on 1 vs 2 piece suits.

Obviously 2 piece suits are easier to get in an out of, and may be more convenient to wear when riding to work for example, however do they sacrifice much when it comes to safety, cost or comfort compared to a 1 piece suit?

I think it depends on the type of riding your into- if you push it hard then maybe a one-piece is a better option, as there is a small chance that the two-piece could seperate, but if your doing normal non rossi style riding with the odd day where you push it then I reakon a 2-piece, it's just better so you can take your jacket off etc, but it's really a personal preference thing. I don't personally think there's a huge difference in safety.

On a track i'd prefer a one-piece.....

As long as the two piece has a good quality zip and is a proven brand I dont think you would have a disadvantage, infact a two piece would give you only an advantage.
Plenty of our customers have raced and crashed in a two piece with no problems.
In saying all that, I race in a one piece, Why, because thats what ya do I guess lol

Two piece that zips together is a compromise that might work...

Can't stop for a coffee at a cafe and take your whole 1 piece off, you can take the jacket off and sling it over the back of your chair if you have a 2 piece. Similarly, if you go somewhere like the Paeroa street races, you can just take your jacket off. Same goes for hanging around at track days and bucket racing etc. (I imagine, coz I haven't done either of those things... yet!)

With a two-piece you can replace one half of it, if required. I had my leather jacket first, then got some trou, then a different jacket, then another pair of trou, then another jacket. So instead of having to replace say a $1500 suit, you are just replacing a less expensive item.
For racing, the one-piece offers two distinct advantages: there isn't a possible place for separation to occur or gravel to get up, and it offers a slimmer (more aerodynamic) profile. (This also means it's a bit more restrictive when you're not on the bike.)

I wear cordura to work. More practical, waterproof and warmer.

I race in a 2-piece and have crashed many times :weep: (read more than once less than 10) and never had an issue. As per Quasi, if the zip is high quality and proven brand its fine.

Well I guess I (or anyone else for that matter) could take a 1 piece right off, but probably not a sight most would wanna see while they're eating :sick:

I have a 2 piece.
Raced in them in Buckets and on mopeds, as well as track days.

I have binned in them heaps. The worst bin was a high-side that resulted in a dislocated AC joint in my shoulder. The reason I still have them is because I was able to unzip the jacket to help me get them off rather than the medics cutting them off like they would have had to have been if a one piece.

They are Danesie T2's that I got from Aussie about 13 years ago and still going strong... with a few minor repairs.

Zip together 2 piece works for me,

Track days or longer trips when I need to keep my back warm, I zip together.

if you are a road rider 2 pce no question......the jacket overlaps the pants so even if they didnt zip together i dont think you are compromised at all.Get them custom made for you,then you can have the fit,and colours and features that you want(ie inside pockets etc),and the style of pants....

This is definitely the key. Landing on the ground and having the zip break - OUCHY!!!!!
