I don't know an awful lot about the 85's but I think KTM is the only manufacturer that still develops theirs.
Also from all the magazine articles on 85cc class racing the KTM usually dominates the field.
Oh by the way..........get the KTM.

the KTMs generally tend to be winning most of the 85cc classes aye. They cleaned up pretty good at the supercross tonight. Although that little Haki waller dude had the KX flying!

You have the option of buying a 105cc kit from KTM for the 85. They retail for around 2k. So it grows with you, once you have out grown the 85 you can have the 105 b4 u move to a 125.
I voted for the ktm as they continue investing in development of 2 strokes. You might pay a little extra but i guess its worth it.:done:

are you an avaerage or above average height 14 y.o?
when i was that age myself and all my mates similar age were moving or had moved to 125s, this may be the better option for you- or otherwise the 85 probably wont last you long

I think the question is --WHY are you wanting an 85cc 2 stroke?
The answer to that question would decide for me anyway what 85cc stroker to suggest.
If you plan to race then as said the KTM is the way to go .
If you just want more power than the lil 44 stoke DRZ can give you then Id say KX but only really because my sons on the 80 which is taking a real ponding with no problems

i want a 85cc two stroke because my drz125 was too slow and two small and im wanting somthing fast and light, also im way to small for a 125 my dad has a modified rm125 and i cant realy touch the ground on it.....

on your dads rm, can you ride that ok? or have you not tried because it quite tall?
I only find that height is an issue when the bike is stopped, and when riding you shouldnt be stopped much, but knowing that a 125 2 smoke is quite a sharp learning curve over te drz and stalling will be a part of that curve so maybe learning how a 2 stroke works on a smaller bike is probably not such a bad idea

At the age of 14 unless you are finished growing then I wouldn't bother with an 85. Learn to ride a lowered 125 as you will be able to grow into it and it will be a lot more enjoyable over time.
Riding the 125 with the larger wheels makes it a lot easier, it was one of the biggest things i noticed when moving up from an 85 many years ago. I made riding over rough terrain so much easier.
Go with a kawasaki which ever bike you decide.

i wouldnt recomend a 85 a your age. if your that worried over the power, how about one of these?

i still reckon a 125 would be more suitable though.

I had been riding an XL200R for a couple years. I started a new job where the guys there were really into their bikes. They offered to take me riding and supply a bike. Little did I know they had chosen an '02 KTM 520SX for me to ride. I was shitting myself, the bike was insanely powerful but I realised that it would only go as fast as I'd let it go. My riding ability improved after just a few hours.
I think you are making a mistake by choosing an 85 over a 125.

Go for a big bike, big wheels are so much nicer to ride on. Unlike myself who will be a midget forever, you'll grow into it!

Nah, Big Bike! Went from riding a '84 kx80 with a ct125 motor to a 02 RM125 at 13, Couldnt touch the ground, so im sure your manage at 14 coming off a much better bike.
