I must say, I'm impressed and happy for you racing guys. It's amazing how skill differs between people. MR for example has been riding for less time than me (so I'm led to believe) and is holding his own with the "big boys"! Well Done, that man deserves a :apint:

Hey, does anyone know when they will show coverage of it on TV?

Top effort from our KB racers today.
Heres KK's times for the second race

Lap 2 57.01
Lap 3 55.69
Lap 4 55.12
Lap 5 54.16
Lap 6 54.23

As I'm sure you'll agree these are pretty impressive times for F3, especialy when you consider he only had half a tyre on the rear due to someone hitting him from behind (please post that pic Milky, it's fantastic) and the NC was getting hosed on the straights.
Over all great day and enjoyable ride there and back.

Well I had a fabulous day - thankfully no major accidents on track so I didn't have to do any work!!! I did get some piccies - but very few of them were actually of the KB riders I was trying to take pics of like MR & Sparky Bills. I wasn't able to take any pics of Kwaka Kid as I was in the Pace Car during F3 and Classic races.
Thanks to all the KBers who came and said hello, and great to meet some of you I hadn't met before.
Well done to our KB racers :2thumbsup: It takes balls to race at a track like Paeroa.

Two photos I want to comment on here:

Firstly - this one is just weird..... Awesome wheelie, but what is that guy doing to the rubbish bin???? :spudwhat: :spudwhat:

Secondly - this guy is a legend.... No, he's not just resting, he races like that - note the lack of controls on the left bar......

hey guys, long day, just come home from work.

Just wanna say thanks to everyone @ paeroa, KB'ers you all rock!

And yeah the incident regarding my shiny carbon fibre mufler getting totally smashed was a bit of a downer, even more so when the sod who hit me from behind came over and told me i didnt know how to ride, and that hes GLAD my bike was fairly damaged!

Ill refrain from naming names and will just say i would never be glad or hope that on anybodys motorcycle (not even his!)

But it was a fast fun day with many scares and lots of bumps! Got even further to go to become a competitive F3 racer, the times Chris might be alright, but that is still mid field F3. Anyways loads of fun and will be back to do it again one year!

Is that the guys that always races a motorcross bike at paeroa? (i think it was a CRM500 or something) - cos that guy is a local legend, seen him out corner an R1 back in 98 when they were the beez kneez.
Annoyed to miss it this year, but the misses fly's out to shanghai tomorrow so i though i would be honourable and spend the last day with her.

Don't know who he is, but he's pretty good... He was a bit wobbly under heavy braking, but hell, who isnt? Twas my first Paeroa, so i dunno about his history... I believe he could possibly out-corner an R1, having seen him.....

Ok you did really well logan even though i thought only the 2-smokers were meant to have blue smoke coming out the back...

As for the afore mentioned guy i had a chat to him and he said that things were said in the heat of the moment and he does realise that he was overtaking so the onus (spelling) is on him to "give way" or something to that effect. So don't be to hard on him i think he was just a little pissed that his bike got nutted.

Good day had and although i left early it was a good ride home.

It was a great day. That photo of KK's bike with the guy on the back was a lucky shot, I took one of KK and the other bikes as they came around the first corner of the S-bend, tracked them with the camera and when I realised what was happening, I was frantically trying to push the shutter release not knowing if the camera was ready to take another shot yet or what. I just wish I'd been taking a video, it would've helped to see what actually happened.
Looking forward to watching the races on tv next sunday :)

TS nicko was doing awsome, first race he was leaving craig shieffes for a couple of laps, then thru out the race got swamped a bit i think he got 4-5

in the second race he got 5th also, So i guess he would make it as one of the top KBers and i must say awsome riding to keep craig sheiffes behind him for a couple of laps, we all know what this guy can do other riders riding 1000 let alone a 600

Was an awesome day!

The day started off me picking up KK's bike for him and riding it over (his street bike). Met up at shell papakura...err clevedon (eventually, haha, sorry guys).

The ride over was sweet, i left at the back of a very big pack, and by the time i decided to overtake the slow group, the fast group had already gone ahead, so I was sorta stuck in the middle with no one infront or behind me.. not good when you dont know the way! :) Eventually we all stopped and regrouped and then carried on.

The riding was awesome to watch. MR and KK were putting on an awesome show. They both rode really well considering it was there first time too!

Laugh of the day would have to be seeing KK coming around the kink before the hairpin smoking, and thinking 'oh no, the bikes on fire...AGAIN!' hahah.

Thanks to KK, chris, erik, milky, pt, spank, and heaps of others for the good company at the track.

(oh, Logan bro, you always seem to attract guys who want to mount you... whats all that about eh boy!?)

...because I wasn't going to!
Despite it being an awesome day, weather-wise (and othewise, as it turned out), I was feeling like shit, so I wasn't going to go. The vifferbabe talked me into it, and with some scurrying around, we actually made it to Clevedon on time - and earlier than some other folx! :Pokey:
To those who I met at Shell Clevedon and at the next stop (Kaiaua??) if I seemed like a dick, that's because I am, and if I seemed antisocial and it was weird me not taking my helmet off, that's because it took some organising to get the intercom headphones sitting just right and I didn't want to stuff it up. As it turned out, I had to take them off at the second stop, because the bloody things were clicking badly whenever we got over about 90km/h, and by the time I sorted that and put earplugs in, we'd been left behind  .
So we tagged along with a couple of strangers, and followed them into Paeroa via Kopu. Ended up riding with a bunch of guys on V-twins, some of whom were doing some fairly insane passes, and two-up monos!

The racing (what we saw of it, which wasn't a lot) was pretty good and the vifferbabe really enjoyed the day, despite not catching up with the other KBers (apart from SpankMe) at Paeroa, and despite getting a headache. We headed off after the Formula Paeroa race, and stopped in Ngatea for an icecream and to sort the intercom out and put the spud back in the Satantune (I was getting paranoid about going past cops on the way back). We went back via the main highway - a bit boring and heaps of traffic, so we tagged behind a guy on a Ducati 750 and another guy. It was interesting to out-tow the Ducati up the Bombay Hills two-up, and without changing down!

Yeah, we saw one too, who didn't seem to be pulling anyone over, or in a hurry or anything, just driving along with the lights going. Tell you what - everyone slowed down, even though we were all crawling along at only 85 at the time! Good thing about the slow speed of the traffic was I was able to overtake without breaking the speed limit! (Don't want to add to the 40 points of my last ticket... )

Yeah - what was up with that?!?
My visor was covered in bug guts when we arrived (also had a wasp sitting on my handlebar for about 15 minutes - had to keep a careful eye on it in case it flew in a vent or summat...). SO, I cleaned the visor before we left, with leftover water and a hanky, and by the time we got to Ngatea, it was splattered agin! Friggin suicidal cabbage white butterflies! I was watching them as I was riding along, fluttering along then, "OOOhhh - shiny clean visor!" and SPLATT!! straight into it.:angry2:
Funniest one was on the way to Paeroa, one went splat right in the middle at about 120km/h, and I said, "Great!", and vifferbabe said, "What?" and so I told her. She laughed and said, "I heard the "Tink!" as it hit, and wondered what it was!"

'Our bugstorm' was moths & sundry UFOs in the valley just on the Taupo side of the Tarawera Tavern at around 9pm. Anyone driven at night when it's snowing heavy - you'll know what I mean. Had to stop, spit & a tissue almost did the job. 10 minutes smoke stop & they departed to wherever it is they go. Good riddance. Warm summer nights half hour after sunset = BAD.

First of all, thanks to all of my mates and my bro who came along for support and help. It was really cool to have you guys out there. Specially thanks to Speedmedic who helped me with everything throughout the day. I really appreciated that man! :)

Paeroa is definetly a circuit not for the faint hearted. I reckon I was much too carefull to the point where I was pretty dissapointed with my performance of yesterday. I know I could have and should have pushed a lot harder but honestly, the thought of crashing @ Paeroa freaked me out. I was all up for going hard out in the morning but after a few hairy moments, I just backed off and just road well within my comfort zone, which I wasn't too happy about after the races.

Comming from doing club races and doing Paeroa where I was pretty much against the best racers of NZ obviously showed the differences in skill level on the day. I will have to improve my riding a lot for Paeroa in 2006 to be competitive at all.

I still had fun yesterday and it was really cool to catch up with everybody.

Well done KK! Man you got some talent, riding your bike and doing low 54's around Paeroa on your first time out there definetly gets my respect! You'r awesome rider dude! :not:

Again, thank you to mlcrisis and SDV International Logistics for sponcering me for Paeroa.

Or was it knowing that I would be the one to scrape you off the track????? Thankfully the fear of Riff Raff kept all KBers out of trouble on the track!!!
And you shouldn't be upset with any part of your performance. This year was a chance for you to get the feel of the track, learn it's good and bad points, and come back next year to give it a good dealing to! I'm proud of all my KBers who raced yesterday!! :2thumbsup:

First F2 race was the highlight of the day, getting the holeshot and leading for a while. Doesn't make me feel too bad when it's guys like Craig Shirrifs and Andrew Stroud that got past. My placings had me in 4th for the day and that put me 3rd in F2 for the BOTS series so am chuffed with that placing.

Oh and (sponsors plug time).....was on the new Metzeler Racetechs and they are mint tyres and were real grippy all day - go try them!

Great catching up with the KBers I saw down there and well done to the other KB riders, great first efforts MR and KK - you've broken your streets virginity!

Cheers,
Nicko

Or was it knowing that I would be the one to scrape you off the track????? Thankfully the fear of Riff Raff kept all KBers out of trouble on the track!!! I'm proud of all my KBers who raced yesterday!! :2thumbsup:

Paeroa is definetly a circuit not for the faint hearted. I reckon I was much too carefull to the point where I was pretty dissapointed with my performance of yesterday. I know I could have and should have pushed a lot harder but honestly, the thought of crashing @ Paeroa freaked me out. I was all up for going hard out in the morning but after a few hairy moments, I just backed off and just road well within my comfort zone, which I wasn't too happy about after the races.

Better going slow than getting your bike barbequed like Craig Flood

It was a great day all around. I especially enjoyed watching the old triumph sidecar getting super sideways at every oppurtunity and receiving applause from the crowd every time they did it.

There were quite a few cage drivers on the way home who would move over and give the bikes a bit of room to get past, which was appreciated :niceone: .

If anyone has any doubts about racing at Paeroa..?
Just ask anyone whos raced there, and they will give ya a big slap!

Go out and do it guys!

Then again after some comments made about me today (after being told it was all good to my face) it might pay to learn to ride first, or at least it seems be that way in my case.

I know freddie merkel etc does teaching days @ taupo, but anyone do them for street circuits? I am in need of some serious training. Hey, the MR Maybe you could teach me around some of those backroads out your way! ;)

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed meeting Kbers at Clevedon for the ride to Paeroa. I only just discovered the site on Friday at work, browsing for directions. I know: d'uh.

Ride down was fun until I got blown away around Miranda. My GSX-R had only 500km on the clock, & I'm still running it in, so I couldn't exceed 6,000 rpm. Mind you, I did flick it up to 7,000rpm a copuple of times, then 8,000. Lucky it had been running for an hour or so, so would have lots of oil circulating.

I remember meeting Vifferman and Stroker Girl, sorry can't remember the others. Sadly I didn't know any kbers were racing, but there's always next time.
Cheers,
David

Que? How else do you learn except by going and doing it? Sounds like you're doing alright, and some elitist dork is just being a dick. You probably gave someone a fright at being quick enough to race with people on your first visit. Ignore the downers (unless you can learn something from what they say) and listen to the people who have constructive criticism. Bloody backstabbing babies by the sound of it.

You rock! Thanks for the excellent write up too.

Number 22. Jason Eaton- my pick of the day!

... and there were quite a few that just left their gear on or beside their bike, trusting no-one would dare knick it.

I know several people who lock their gear to their bike - just run a cable up the arm of their jacket, through the chinbar of the helmet, etc. I just wished I had a lockable box or two; we locked the helmets to the bike (what a farkin flimsy lock - you could easily bend it) and carried/wore all our other crap.

Paeroa was excellent BTW, some great racing. Jason Easton was 125GP Nat Champ a few seasons ago, then went onto a bigger bike (can't remember if it was a Fireblade or an SP?) but didn't do too well, but is now smoking again on his Tigcraft.

Hiya,

Yeah bloody Suzuki - it's the first one I've owned, all my other bikes have been Hondas. Cheap bastards could've spent a couple of bucks on a helmet holder. Bike's done 800km now, this weekend I'll go for a blast out to Waiuku, then on to the coast & back, which will get me enough k's for the 1000km service. I'll change to Motul 5100 for the next couple of thousand km, then on to 300v.

Picked up a good tip from Mike @ Mt Eden Motorcycles today (good man) - shoot down to Mico Wakefield & pick up some aluminium mesh, hole size 32x32 - cut it to make a radiator guard, cheap & effective.
cheers
