Ok so I saw a GL145 for sale and was interested in it so I did a quick internet search. Up comes a whole pile of results about bucket racing. Here's my question? What is a bucket racer? I've seen some pretty odd looking bikes (here's looking at the ones xr-rider has for sale) when going through photos of them but still can't figure out what one is.

Cool. Cheers for the quick answer.
I wonder if my girlfriend would let me race a bike...She hates the fact that I even ride a dirt bike up the Ashley river. Oh well I'll just break the news to her by inviting her out to a meet and letting her watch me fumble my way round a track.

Good on you.......unlike the Ashley, everything is well organised and an ambulance is there if you need it. the bikes are usually check as is your safety gear.
The GL is a good pick, If you need any help give me a PM or use the contact details on the BMRC website and contact one of the committee members.

$1000 to the person who can get her to ride a bike around a race track and go faster than 100km/h. She would rather ride a horse. Apparently horses are safer. I totally disagree. A bike does exactly what you tell it too and doesn't spook at sheep. Thats right, to a horse, sheep can be scary:crazy:
She won't even get on my old "81 XL and learn to ride. She's crazy!

According to the Acc horses are not safer than motorbikes.

for some  reason though sheep love to run in front of motorbikes :argh:
I ride both horses & motorbikes and I think its because I ride horses that I found riding a motorbike relatively easy
just have to remember different strokes for different folks ..
is she scared of bikes or have a preconceived fear of them??

She'll ride a farm bike quad bike but not a racing quad. Or any type of quad that could get up on its back wheels. So frustrating, she won't even have a go on my 81 XL river hack. :oi-grr:
As for selling one of her 7 horses thats completely off limits. She was offered 15k for a 10k horse. She said no. She only had 4 more horses at home that don't get worked. Her reason for keeping it..."it was my first horse, I can't sell it! Its got way more sentimental value!"

She is scared and has a preconceived fear of them. She's scared of actually riding on them in case she falls off or isn't any good at riding them. Her preconceived fear is that everyone who rides them gets into accidents and dies a horrible painful death.

Tell her the best bucket racer in NZ would be lucky to get 100k's out of a bucket unless they're at the Taupo spectacular.

I recon you would go pretty dam close to 100 at times at Tamuranui

hmm I reckon the 50 would have been getting close to 140 at Ruapuna, I'd have to measure the rear tyre size again & calculate it. A real flash 100 should touch 100mph, but I can think of only 4 bikes. But yeah on a go kart track esp Mt Wgtn fast speeds are unlikely.

Maybe I should have made it clear i meant go cart tracks lol
I'm quite surprised 50's go so fast. I've kind of been thinking of the cheap 50's you buy now that max out at 60 though

Team ESE bike's are about 117-120kmh at Taupo, 86-94 depending on who's riding and which way they are going at Mt Wellington and pretty much the same or a little faster, possible touching high 90's clock wise at Tamuranui.
I found the speed of the tight infield turn at the end of the sweeper (clockwise) at Tamuranui took some getting used to. I just soo want to get back there, its such a blast.

Was that your GP doing 120, or one of the slower ones? My 50 wasn't a match for the 125 so maybe I wasn't that fast after all, just at Ruapuna I was running another tooth on the countershaft. 'Seat of pants' I would have thought I was getting high 120s at Taupo. Maybe I was well wrong. If you trust the measuring device. My std road RG50 did 105kph on the flat (whilst indicating 115).

I should have said the speeds at Taupo were recorded last year, this year my speedo failed and you and I were out in front of the other ESE bikes.
Speed was recorded with Cateye Velo 5 or 8 bicycal speedo's. They record/hold the max speed.
How good are they? so, so I expect, but in agreement by +- 2 or 3 k's and are set up by entering the wheels rolling diameter.

What realy frightens me is your 50 has the legs on so many F4 bikes whatever the circuit.

Hey I did the calcs & I'm absolutely full of it. Seems you do need a longer straight to get these things up to top speed. Seems at Ruapuna I would have been cracking 120 but Taupo only 112. I was over revving at Ruapuna so it would deff pull taller gearing & that was unfaired. The NZ record for a 50 is 140k, but that was specially set up & running funny fuel, but I'm pretty confident that my bike on av would get similar power. More if I set it up. Sadly my bike is rebored to within bucket limits, but for a speed record attempt it would need to be exactly 50cc or less.
My 50 was faster than many F4s because it was leaving the corners 10kph faster than a few & carry that head start in speed down the straight.

I recon your right, my 125 at Pukekohe with the longer straight and slight down hill to the hair pin gets me into the high 140's possible even 150 ish depending on the wind, so you could be easily pushing 140's at Ruapuna. Thinking back I recon I was over geared at Taupo.
