Today I discovered what some people call "the joy of engine braking". Now dont get me wrong im sure it has its place but lets just say that it didnt work for me too well today....
This weekend I took ownership of an FXR150. I've bought this bike to be my commuter/bucket racer while saving for a "real" bike. All going well and as intended it will cost me less than half of what the train has cost to get to work. This means that I will be able to afford to complete both the Vic Club streetstock series and an entire bucket racing season! :niceone:
I took it out for a couple of hours riding today and discovered a few things about my riding that I hadnt realised.... Its no secret that I love 2 smokers. Its also no secret that I destroy them. Im hoping that I have better luck with the 4 stroke.
In true Hels style, this bike has not electric start and needs to be kicked over. I can kick start most 2 smokers in 1 or 2 kicks usually, not the wee FXR! I stalled it a couple of times. What kinda of bike doesnt like having the revs snotted out of it at the lights?! ?!! Apparently just cause you cant hear it, it doenst mean that its stopped. Made for a couple of embarrasing moments at the lights on the motorway!
Anyway, once I got used to this little thing I had fun! It's gonna make a great commuter and will be fun on the hill as well as on the buckets. Once I have my "real" bike I will be stripping him down and doing him up!
Thanks must go to EJ for making the sale so easy and for letting him go for a great price. Cheers mate. Best of luck in ChCh. You'll need it! :niceone:

lol! I know its strange, I ride Malcolm's VFR no probs and ive ridden and raced numerous 600cc++ bikes around the country over the past 5 years or so without a prob. I think it might be because the FXR is very similar to the RG that I relax into my "normal" way of riding without thinking! It's still as much fun round the corners though :)

Congrats on the purchase. This bike is a total hoon trough the twisties. I had the honour to ride it once and boy oh boy did I have fun - so much that I had to wait 10 minutes for everyone else to catch up LOL.
Congrats :niceone:

I've ridden it as well. Definitely better since he fixed the throttle up, EJ had wrists of steel for a while there!

"The joy of engine braking"?
So it has an addictive and gorgeous flat drone when decelerating, a la V2/V4 engined bikes?
And look! I just happen to have a wee pic of the proud owner with her new bike:done:
I'd say, "What a hottie!", but that might be naughty.
I don't like being in trouble.

So, window-shopping is tantamount to shoplifting?

Cool. A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away you borrowed one of those things to sit your licence on. I remember you coming back and say what a cool little bike it was. My FXR bucket's coming along. Should be ready to race this season.
Have fun!!

Nah mate. I havent had an accident on the road since like 3-4 years ago (2 months after *that* fluro vest incident).
The only sweepstake you could take is "How long will it take to blow the engine up?" Though its getting old now. Hence the 4 stroke!

But give me time. Especially if I keep trying to ride it like a 2 smoker. A few have blown up lately..... :sweatdrop

Well the H made it out of your hands alive. :scooter:
Just make sure you don't over rev the FIXER either with throttle or changing down to fast & it should last just fine, most of the blow ups have been with aftermarket ignitions etc I think.

:crybaby: I loved that bike :(
Hmm, the over revving bit is the hardest part to stop! People say that 2smokers are harder to ride to some degree than a 4 stroke but to be honest I reckon the 2 smokers are waaaaay easier to ride!
Though this wee thing can be very embarrasing when you stall it at the lights...
