Does anyone out there have any roll chart/route sheets similar to the DB1k09 one?
After watching hours of Dakar vids on youtube it's made me want to go out and use the routsheet holder that i made for the Dusty Butt:stupid:. Really looking for SI routes but interested in any that may be out there.

Cheers,

I've got one that was published by KiwiRider, I think, that goes north of Christchurch. Other than that, you'll probably have to make your own. Mostly they are done for organised rides that have non-public access components.

Thats what i was thinking, downloaded a routesheet design program last night.

Will start recording/documenting roads as soon as i get my bike back from the sparky:argh:.

Which program did you download? Cooneyr obviously has some experience with one of the free ones available.

I have a couple of route sheets from rides run by one of the local shops here in Christchurch about 2 years ago.
best one tours the pinusula, the other out on the Canterbury plains. There's a bit of video from the plains one on the web here somewhere....here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PJ58WA6G-g).
They are both supposed to be public access but there are a couple of places that made me wonder or required you to be really careful of other track users who if they read the signs think parts of the ride to be dedicated walking tracks.

Don't know of any easy way to duplicate them either as they are still in roll form here.
GPS files are certainly easier but maybe not as interesting for some.

I down loaded RBEditior, rbeditor.valleyfield.se/en/

Had a quick play with it last night, seems easy enough to use/set up.

I had a play with RBEditor, thought it was pretty good with lots of useful features.

Sounds like you've just got too much time on your hands with your bike out of action :wait:
Did you find the problem ?

Topo, I've got some from central Otago, 90% public roads, some good-uns to be ridden. I'll bring them over next time we catch up.

That is exactly the software the I used for the DB1k chart. It is more aimed at full width A4 roll charts like those used in the Dakar but obviously it can be modified to do the narrower style sheet we use.

Roll charts take a lot of putting together i.e. you really need to ride the route first recording all the turns. The DB1k chart has been put together by a few rides prior to the even and modifed from feedback during the event. Seems to me the key to roll charts is lots of resets. It is very easy for the bike speedo to get out of wack if the resets are to far appart. There were quite a few who couldnt read and had distance issues on the CCA ride (myself included). One unhappy land owner - opps.

I'm keen for somebody to put together a ride that I can use the roll chart for. Only done it once (CCA) cause I know the DB1k route too damn well :D

P.S. The dude in Sweden could do with updating and fixing a couple of bugs. Bit like my web site really!

This is a rough scan of the route sheet ride originally run by 'Canterbury Rides'
(it's about 2mb to download and is a bunch of .jpg files zipped)
It starts at the 'Canterbury Rides' shop in Ferry Rd Christchurch and goes a long indirect way to Akaroa eventually finishing back in Little River.
It is a great ride for shingle twisty hills plus a couple of technical options.

niceone:niceone: are all of the roads open to puplic access?Yes, they are, but you will be sharing with a few padestrians and MTBers at times who may think otherwise so you have to be nice.

Without going over the routesheet with a calculator and adding it up (or riding it again - soon I like to think) I have no idea, don't think it's as long as it felt. It felt like a big day starting around 8am and didn't end until late afternoon (4:30pm ish?) though.
I'd be happy to go again if you're doing it on a weekend when I'm home. We did get a bit confused during navigation a couple of times on the day. I'll GPS track log it next time.

What are we doing next weekend TA? I might talk to N about the posibility of doing this. Think I might take the 950 for this though - I'm knackered from yesterdays ride on the 125.

This coming weekend I may be going to Bluff via Raes Junction maybe with Jatz. J also wants to go too so now it will be an overnighter I think... also weather dependant.
Next best weekend for me for this Banks Pensulia Route Sheet Run would probably be 29/30 August or almost any after as I really only have plans for this coming weekend.
