View Full Version : Best deals on Michelin/Pirelli dirt tyres?

Where do I shop for the best deals on Michelin or Pirelli dirt tyres and what tyre do you guys recommend (front & rear)for general trail/beach(sand & stones)/soft to medium dirt track riding. Bike is a 2002 XR200R.

Scott411 is on here and does cracker deals. delivered to your door. He's in Auckland so ask him about sending to Maui's Waka. But it works out cheaper for me than going to my local dealer (in welli).

Tyre choice is a subjective matter and there's plenty o' threads on here about it if you have a sift thru. For that reason i won't even mention my preffered tyre. But get Metzeller MC5's lol

ive found the perelli scorpion tyres to be quite durable, the michellin i have on the back now is falling apart after only 3 rides. ( sorry bout the spelling)

yeah, have tried scorpion xtras and they were good grippers. i recon the MC5 lasts longer tho with the same (as far as i can notice) level of grip. they seem to have taller knobs than most tyres and i guess this is why they seem to last longer. I recon if you go with a good brand (spend the money) you get pretty similar results as long as your buying the right compound for what you're riding.

That said... for the OP remember that: "soft" compound tyres are designed for max grip on hard surfaces and vica versa. they'll (obviously) wear out faster than hard compounds so you have to make a choice at a compromise between wear and grip.

Also remember... the biggest instant difference you'll make to grip is dropping tyre pressure (not too low) this is a compromise between grip and getting flat tyres!
