Got this as a Christmas present, but just getting to give it a go. What I'm confused with is: In Career mode (may be other modes as well), how do you switch from Free Practice to Qualifying to Race? I managed to do it in the first round, but now I seem to be stuck on free practice in round 2.

Do you have to complete a set number of laps? Or is there a button you can press?

All words of wisdom appreciated!

HA! 16yo are of use on this site,

For Free Practice just quit. You dont need to do it. It just allows you to get your lines right. Qualifying is one lap then it finishes.

Its a pretty good game actually. Most fun pulling wheelies into walls and falling off haha

Thanks for that - so at the menu stage, where is has "Free Practice", guessing you just scroll down to there and there will be an option to change it to "Qualifying"?

Is it much better then the older ones? I can only remember playing motogp 2003 (think it must have been because Dijairo Kato was still a rider) and it had a few annoying features like not being able to change fuel consumption for time trial which cut's like seconds off lap times at japan :)

That's pretty much it.

Just go down and select where it says qualifying and you will be presented with another screen to choose free practice, qualifying or race. Pick which ever you want and then you're away.

Its alot better than any of the other motogp titles. Not so arcade but not way too sim either. The physics are great and its cool to fang on the 125s and 250s!

Bob, it should be easy to just scroll down to "start race" and skip the practice etc?

What are your guys lap times? I got a 1min16 flat at sachsenring on the zx-rr (too much of a kawasaki fan I know), and couldn't beat just under 117 on the desmo... Just a few things for anyone looking at picking it up - The reviewers are all giving it bad reviews because it doesn't have much more than a simple racing season plot with no cut scenes or anything but if you're a fan of MotoGP it will be enough (it was for me) of an excuse to play it all the time that you can ride the desmosedici, RSV-R etc and the 125's and 250s are really fun to ride. The graphics look good in play (apart from sometimes the knee dissapearing into the ground if you go into orbit mode) and it's generally fun to play. Only things I dislike about it are the lack of unlockables and how simple the bike set up is. You should be able to adjust front and rear rebound, compression, springrates, wheel size. Earlyer motogp games were better like this (fuell amount in bike, wheel size etc). One thing I HATE about it though - You can go any race in intermediate (even hard some times) without going over 4th gear and win by 10 secs yet the moment it is a rain race, you will be riding on the limit of grip but all of the sudden you're struggling to make second to last...

OK so back to MotoGP 08, has this game got a glitch? If you play it in Career mode, I was missing out practice and qualifying and just starting the race, where ever you finish is where you will start in the next race, ie finish fourth and you'll be fourth on the grid. The thing I noticed was if you win when you start the next race, every other rider is riding in the same colour leathers and helmet as you!? If you finish 2nd it seems fine, its only after you win. The bikes are the right colours, just the riders colours end up the same.
I actually prefer the GP 04 game with the 990's, they were more fun to ride with you able to pull big long slides and laying darkies on the track, the 800's dont seem to do that. Maybe its too realistic? <_<

Hmm sounds like you've got something crazy going on there, I don't have those probs at all (playing on PC).

I'm crazy about motorbike games and have tried a bunch, and I gotta say that the best one I've ever played is the old GP500 from way back.

Sure it was 2 stroke and the bikes all sounded like lawnmowers but there hasn't been a racing game since that comes close to the fun factor of being able to put in some good lap times in GP500! (although motogp08 does come pretty close)

Not any glitches like that for me, gav! Only prob is some times if you flick a bit of a highside motion and put it back in line, sometimes (and this is only once every few crashes of riding hard out) it just throws the rider over the bars randomly even though the whole thing happened about a second ago and you're now riding fine...
