View Full Version : Biker down near Kaiaua

Just got back from Paeroa (great day!), but just north of Kaiaua came across an accident - biker collided with car on corner. Road blocked so had to turn round and go back through Miranda.
Didn't recognize either the rider or the bike. Don't think it was one of ours. Bike very mangled and also caught fire - not much recognisable but looked like a HD or a cruiser at any rate from my brief glimpse. Biker wasn't moving - looks bad.
Anyone got any update?

Also got turned away at the road block. Heard from one biker that it was fatal.

Got turned away. But had a chat with a fireman before we left. The Westpac chopper was there, blades running, and the fireman sorta pointed at thigh and shoulder, as in smashed up. He was not talking about the rider in past tense, so presume that he is a very sore but alive lad.

Ditto that SPman, bastard pack heading toward Paeroa when I returned around 3:30 today treated the road like they owned it. Never mind me with my headlight on coming toward them. Sure I gave 'em a wide berth but when they're overtaking 3 wide it's better to be safe 'cause you never know when another of those sods is going to widen the swathe of death.
And as for being behind one? No way I want to put up with that obscene cacophony. And I hear they don't like being passed 'cause it frightens the shit out of 'em, they don't hear you coming and wham, you're right beside em! They don't like it? They should use their mirrors or produce less noise. What is it with Harley owner's, do they have to produce that racket to make up for not having all the good fruit you get with a modern concept bike? :done:

I heard thru a local fireman that he was alive while being transported to hospital, but later died, RIP.
We passed a bike down in the Karangahake Gorge also on the way back from Paeroa - looked like a black sport bike, off the road to the left (in a drain) heading south - hope he/she is OK....anyone else aware?
