Im just a wondering wether there's sufficient Clubmans racers to warrant our own wee corner of this cyberspace world ???:whocares:
A place where we can can shoot the shit, pull each others leg & generally chat about the world of bike racing as it applies to us...
You know the ones....its that fella on the old gsxr;that :tugger: on the flash new bike whose quick as on the straights, but slow as thru the corners;or that other fella whose taken his number plate off & taped up his lights.
Or that geezer who hasnt raced for a while & rocks up on his old dunger & kicks all our butts:shit:
Some off us might be happier in this class instead of the appropriate formula
as it aint as expensive, plus where else do you end up racing against thous down to buckets?:woohoo:

So which catagory do you fit into Puddy?

I will be doing the Canty Winter series and pretty much all the south island events I can afford to do this year. Keep an eye out for a shabby old black CBR. Clubmans sounds great to me. Was quite painfull to watch at Levels last weekend. Should have entered, but............

Im the fella who took off his number plate & taped up his lights...but sometimes Im that tosser who's slow in the corners & fast on the straight,,,,

I just like the idea of sitting on the grid & looking at all the bikes around me & its like its youre mates finally got thier shit together & got leathers....
There is such a variety of bikes on the grid that its like the road, but you can nail it!!!:woohoo:

He's trying to get it sorted for the trackday on the 14th....but what with rooting & partying he's cutting it a bit fine!! He's also got to get the fairings fixed, but Duct tape would do i reckon. By the way Wingnut, he's stoked with the forks,I told him while they were out that he should do the oil & maybe the seals too....did you ever do either on 'em?

puddytat

Yeah sinful, thats the spirit:grouphug:....we could come up with a special handshake or hand signal like the killer bees, something like this maybe....:tugger:
What the fark do you need a barge for ?
Sponsorship might be a tad difficult ,but I'll talk to Bill English tomorrow & maybe he can take some of the money he'll no doubt cut from the Arts grants....

Well ...its been one of the more exciting times of my life, fanging it hell for leather around Ruapuna this year,a bit of a love -hate relationship really.
Loving in the way of the speed & adrenaline, & hating in the way off the pre-race anxiety & the feeling of being glad when the day's over & the bike & I are still in one piece:yes:
But...Ive learnt alot about myself in the process.Yup, my nads are as large as I thought they are but, not as large as some.
That Im as good as what I thought & better than some
That Im not as good as Id wish & alot slower than Id like to be
That Yamaha wont want me ,not even to sweep up after Rossi or even wash his socks....:weep:
That having that focus, that single mindedness is Zen like, when you "get da rhythmn'
That I do actually like being the centre of attention , when my mates turn up to watch:o

A big reason to go racing was the stupid speeds that i was doing on the road, I thought that if i raced it'd get it out of my system.....wrong!!
All its taught me in regards to road riding is that I can brake later, power out earlier,& that poottling along at 120km/hr is still illegal & really quite gay when youre used to twice that....
I learnt that last week.Id put the bike back in road trim & it was my first ride .I popped over to Chch to meet up with a mate who'd come over from Oz....I'd got sick of nana-ing along as well as quite sore from not moving around on the bike like you do when your fanging it round a track, & so I blatted off....would've only been 10ks later & Im sitting on the side of the road handing over my license to the nice Policeman from Culverden:killingme
who did book me but let me off the higher speed he'd clocked me at thus saving me a hundy:2thumbsup. He said "what speed do you think I clocked you at" & I thought I know what speed I was doin & I aint going to tell you that or Im walking home & it was alot more than what I got pinged at:whistle: so told him what Id got down to when I realised that those flashing lights were for my amusement. So the racing experince did help in that I know how hard I can brake....speeding got me a ticket, but racing saved my license!!
So I still have a dilemma....I cant afford to ride at a speed i enjoy on the road, & I cant afford to race as seriously as Id like....Murch is a small town & no one'd be interested in sponsorship & the job market is limited ...I did think about being a callboy but the chicks are all fat & ugly & the local rugby boys are all closet Homos & get enough action in the showers anyway....:buggerd:
But hey, writing this has helped in that maybe I'll just keep doing Clubmans...if I gave up smoking I could afford to do more racing, smoking is a certain death some time, as opposed to a unlikely one on the track.Smoking is something i dont enjoy anymore & its just the addiction thats sucking me along, whereas racing has become a new addiction that has done nothing but good for me, & cost wise both in $$ terms & health has got to be way better.
So if yourve made it this far, then your doing well!! Im just praattling on,trying to get it together in my head & to sort out priorities in my life....the risks & costs of Road riding & or racing,& the effect on my partner & the other things in life ,.....do I want it bad enough? :yeah:

Hey if you really want to quit the fags - get that book "The easy way to quit smoking" By Alan Carr (I think his name was).

I smoked for 15 years - read the book - followed the instructions to the letter - and only had one withdrawl symptom!!!!!! Haven't had a smoke in over 2 years. Worked a treat for me anyway man.

I can relate to your predicament with regards to the "do I ride on the road or track" question. Im gonna sell my GSXR as I haven't really enjoyed riding on the road since spending a bit of time on the track. It just doesn't do it for me anymore. But sure as shit - as soon as I sell it I will want another bike for the road - no doubt........

Well this looks like it aint going nowhere....

Awww i don't know ! First time i seen this thread for some time and was good to read that post ya just put up regarding road vers track !
One of the reasons i pulled off the road was the way i was riding out there !
Funny thing has happened though and thats that i've saved a fair amount of coin in doing so ! I mean when the mrs and i head out for a ride, i was looking at say 30 notes in gas a couple of feeds each and a few beers ! Had to be a hundy for the day easy ! Multiply that by maybe 2 or 3 rides a week and whey hey hey ya got perhaps 800 to $1100 a month we were blowing by enjoying ourselves !
Now i'm solely track i do as many track days as i can perhaps 3 a month at $120 each plus fuel at 60 so 180 x 3 days $540 a month
Tyre wear mmmm i get roughly 6 or 7 track days (heat cycles) at a push per set, so at 600 per set we'll say $300 a month (now i'm buying 2nd hand tyres with on average 2 heat cycles done so that cost has dropped heaps)
Add it up and $840 don't seem so bad !
Sure i change my oil more often but meh i'd be drinking a box of piss if i wasn't riding on the track, so an oil change every 3 track days is disposable (i chuck the used oil in the mrs's car shhhh)
This month is a bit more with 5 track days and a hill climb weekend haha but ya cant help good luck !
My next C/M start is 5 th of april and i cant friggin wait !

So what have you fellas got planned in the way of mods or bling for your bikes this season?

Not much for me - keen to just get some track time in and save the $$$ for a 600 or 650 twin - not much point spendin too much coin on my old girl - she goes pretty good at the moment and Im not planning on breaking any records with it.

Besides - the initial plan was to have a go at racing while keeping it on a really thin budget cause at the moment, I dont think I would enjoy it any more than I do now, if I spent plenty of $$ and raced my GSXR. The cheaper the better. Bet I change my tune by the end of the year though.

Bit of a late reply... I managed to win all 3 races in the clubmans at the GP so was a good weekend apart from having to work fri, sat and sun nights

Im going to do the endurance race, should be fun. Not going to worry about pit stops and the likes, just fill the tank to the top and hope the bikes economical enuff to go the whole hour.

Anyone going out to Ruapuna on this monday? Hampton Honda got a ride/ training/ fun day out there, they going to have Aaron Slight and Rob Phillis out there getting our autographs :2guns:

Yea it was soo much fun, wrecked a rear tyre and a tank of gas coz did so many laps.
Both Aaron Slight and Rob Phillis are such nice guys, we were yaking to them for quite a bit at the lunch break as well as in the pit lane.
My highlights was not being passed by either of them but me passing Rob through the infeild! I dont care that he was taking it easy AND had a passenger on coz "I passed Ex Oz SuperBike Champ Rob Phillis on a Racetrack!" LOL
Was an awesome day apart from the wind picking up halfway through the day, couldnt do any decent whellies coz was getting blown over...

Im in the same ball park there, the bike I race is the same one that I ride on the road, got it down to about an hour and half to get it from road to race trim.
Had a blast at the endurance race, I crashed in the qualifying race while challenging for 1st (too much gas while my knee, footpeg was already scaping) only a lowside, but managed to set the fastest lap time which put me up near the front for the 1 hour.
After puting my race fairings back together with a couple of rolls of duct tape and a handfull of zip ties I got back out for the enduro, even tho was a bit sore on my left side from the crash I took the lead on about the 5th or 6th lap which I held for a couple of laps til I overshot the braking maker at the hairpin... I held on and managed to win the superbike class and got 3rd over all so I was happy as...

Yup you rode well Butch, passed me several times during the day, the most exciting was the one on the way into turn 1:niceone:...
I had a pretty good day of it,didnt crash & hopefully didnt baulk to many of the much quicker riders. Was my first outing in Senior & I got wayysted by about everyone:laugh:
Ground my pegs which've never done before while going 2 secs slower than my PB....cant figure that one.
Highlight of the day was in race one getting out into the cement dust on the sweeper, sliding & heading for the wall....managing to avoid the large cones & miss them... & the wall, somehow.:sweatdrop

Yea I copd a few slips and slides too, mainly if I went off the race line, apparantely a coupla bikes sprayed a bit of oil around earlier in the day which was probably the main reason for that... and possibly why I came to greif... nothing to do with my riding of course... :innocent:

straight from Keith Code's books, lazy turning. ie. starting turning early, using up all your lean. a later (and faster) turn uses less lean and would probabley be faster around the corner as you can get back on the throttle faster.

gidday clubman uhh clubbers..

is there any rules at all concerning engine type/displacement/age in clubmans ?

iv got a project on the go and it would be a shame if i could only take it to track days, i figure clubmans would be a whole bunch more fun.. also if anyone has any f3 knowledge same question..

project = 89 spada + xr650/cr500 (whatever i can find), it'll be a while coming, so i figure id get the rules sorted before hand..

Well the Vic Club lets you run just about anything (that is safe) and it is only a problem when you get to quick, then you are kicked up (or out if your bike doesn't fit into any of the other classes). The current cut-off time is 1:18 for Manfield.

Decided to go racing again #93 (its been bloody years). Bought myself an R1 (first sports bike for almost as long!) have been riding it on the road, fook its a missile!!! figured the best place for it is on the track so amcc clubmans here I come (to start with). Busy doing the necessary to it at the moment, suspension sorted, fairing on its way, fluids being replaced and things lockwired up.

Anybody else out there going this way this season?
First round is in October I think?

I'm keen to give clubmans a go but I doubt I'll have a suitable bike by October.
Must go and watch.

Hi mate, just bought myself a race SP1 and going to be doing the Clubmans, this will be my first time ever doing this, obviously had the odd track day on my road bikes etc etc, but nothing like this, I am so buzzing for it. I feel like I have found the fun again in bikes.

Been to a couple of track days already and loving the bike, trying to get out as much as possible, AMCC have an advanced riders day on 30th Aug, has anyone been on one these before, what are they like?

Yeah mate, the ART days are real good. You get to ride around at your own pace at whatever group you feel comfortable in. There's plenty of marshalls that you can ask for advice and even get them to follow / lead you for a few laps to get advice. Definitely go to one.

I'll 2nd that. It's a good day and a great way to introduce yourself to the track if you've not been before.

So, who's gonna be there next Sunday?

Yip I'll be there - as long as my new braided lines arrive in time - oh, and provided I'm not hung over after coming to your gig..

Well, I guess that's it then.

What better way to spend a shitty Sunday afternoon in the capital than doing an oil change, doing a bit of lock-wiring, fitting new brake pads, fitting Oggy knobs, and stickering up the gixxer with it's numbers and stuff. It's all go now for round 5 at Manfeild.

I'll just need to have the Continentals fitted on the Friday morning, and then we're in to testing for the following days marathon 15 lap event. It'll be great to get out there again after so many years off.

Just gotta hope now for the official clearance from the surgeon on 08 September, or this will have been a very expensive exercise that I won't be able to live down for a very long time!

See you all there folks

Thanks fella.

Any news on the Clubbie dude from round 4 that had the nasty smash... think he hight have been on a Super Duke?

Okay, so this might be a little contentious, but here goes.

Some of the up n coming VMCC Clubmans racers clearly have the goods, and are way too good for Clubbie A or B. And I note that at the last short circuit round, the MyLaps timing sheets stated that some were quick enough that "Next round must move to correct class". Is that a hard and fast rule, or will they be allowed to play in the same sand-pit as the rest of us come late-September?

Doesn't worry me much given my testing times mean I'd probably get promoted from 23rd to 20th if they all moved up, but just asking the question.

I know it's not a non-championship competition as far as the season goes, and I think we're only racing for points per event, but it would be good to see how competitive they are in their 'real' classes.

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Done, all sorted with a full bill of health, and Medical Certificate for MNZ/VMCC will be in the mail later this week.

Now we get to see just how slow I really am.
