ive done a search but cant find what im after
ive just got my second speeding ticket in a year (still less then 100 demerit points) - I always thought that it was 3 tickets but a mate of mine reckons you automatically lose your licence if u get 2 speeding tickets in a year. does anyone know if this is true?
only found this on the landtransport site
"If you get a total of 100 or more demerit points within any two year period, you will be suspended from driving for three months."
i didnt find anything about automatic loss of licence for a set number of tickets in a year so it could bullshit. anyone know for sure?

It's the demerit points.

Your mate is wrong has to reach 100 demerits.
If you accumulate 100 demerits within 2 ears its 3 months loss.
If you accumulate 100 demerits within 1 year you lose it for 6 months.
Demerits do not all magically clear all at once every 2 years, they clear 2 years from the date you got the ticket.
Delaying payment on a ticket no longer works. so you cant wait until last possible time to try scrape through, the demerits apply from the date of the offence.

I agree with the 1st part skid, but the 2 years start for those demerits when you have paid the fine

As I understood it, it must be two years clear since your LAST ticket

I picked up 2 speeding tickets and a citation for travelling along the service lane into Wellie, all within 9 months of each other... 65pts... I received a letter telling me that i'd accumulated the points and that i better watch it for the next 1 and a bit... it also informed me that it's 100pts then bye bye license... Tickets etc... are no longer valid after 2 years after the offence... WHEW

Can someone tell me If you were caught doing over 10 ks over the speed limit do you lose so many demerit points and the faster the speed limit over you do the more demerits point you lose?. Also what speed do you have to be doing over the limit to have your bike impounded?.

The faster you go, the more demerits you lose.
I dont have the brackets in my head, but it's publicly available on the web.
40km/h over the posted limit and it's a automatic suspension. Bike not impounded
50km/h over a temporary limit and the above happens.
Vehicle not impounded unless it's under the boy racer type laws (racing etc), or (correct me if i'm wrong) they can do in cases of dangerous driving?

A vehicle can be impounded for:
Unneccessary exhibition of speed (ie drag racing/ winding up as fast as possible to the speed limit (bastards i know))
Driving whilst disqualified.
Sustained loss of traction (more than 3 seconds)
A vehicle cannot be impounded for dangerous driving. They impounded mine when charged for dangerous driving, it got released after i think 13 days (by time i fought it all) got a call that vehicle was released from time of call and any other days beyond then that i did not collect it i would be responsible for those fees....
impound and towing fees were paid by NZ police (to that date)
Hope that clears some things up

Thanks Devil for the info. Just pays to behave whilst out riding and then that way you dont lose any demerit points or money to the cops. I have notice of lately that there seems to be more and more cops on the roads so it would pay for all of us to stick to the appropiate speed limits and give the cops less of a job to do.
