OK Ruapuna this weekend, and honestly is it any wonder the racing gets such small crowds? Was reading The Press at work and had a good write up on some of the guys, but looking through the paper couldn't find any advertising for the racing. Nothing at all regarding tickets, race times, programme etc. Anyone know what the deal is? Gate sales only? Is it a weekend pass or seperate ticket for each day or what?
Good luck everyone who is racing, looks like it'll be good weather!

its 15 bucks regardless when you attend. it was at timaru. i was kinda annoyed at that entry fee. i mean i am (well was) a student but i love going to the racing (which is usually free)if im not racing. suddenly im asked to pay 15 bucks to watch. ok theres some good guys out there but its a steep price (which is not an offense to the guys racing) and what do i get for it. its very little more than a club meet really now days. if i wasn't involved with the racing and money was tight i wouldn't head out. if i even knew it was on.

You should be grateful that it was only $15 for a national meeting as I went to see the Lady Wigram Trophy at Ruapuna last weekend. It was $35 at the gate:gob the bloody racing was boring so I think in spite of your financial situation $15 is cheap entertainment for your money:msn-wink:

haha yea we went out and checked out fridya practice at the lady wigram. 10 bucks just for the friday.

however how often do you see a field of 20ish F5000 cars from both sides of the tasman take on each other?? In comparison ive got 8 superbikes on the grid currently. Ok so there is often a reasonable battle but 8 bikes ( of which maybe 4 are really competitive) 600's are only slightly better but shes kinda a 3 horse race (but but guys like lawerence and smith (no 2., well no actually no. 88 but you get the drift) make the racing exciting beyond just 1 and 2).

I'd be happy to pay more if the racing was worth more. i was quite happy paying smaller amount in the past for this racing but 15 bucks ( there was a couple of us that i paid for that made it seem alot more) per person jsut doesn't seem worth it.

wtf $10 on friday practice???? At ruapuna but i was working.....oh well i did enjoy the 5000,s....i do get your point though, the nationals can do with bigger fields in comparison.

$35 for Lady Wigram? Did that include $10 car park? I had a weekend pass for $25 (well free actually), what was rude was they had roped off part of the embankment and were charging $20 extra to park there on Sunday. I ducked home to grab a jacket at one stage and drove back in around 3.00, and had started raining, thought I might try around the banking and the wanker still wanted $20 to park. Asked if he could guarantee any racing if it rained, and he couldnt be sure, still wanted a twenty though, didnt get it from me. :devil2:

Oooooh, ya jammy bugger! I'd give my left nut to see those things in action. It's funny, they reckon they are getting bigger fields at the Historic meets than back in the day. Awesome machines.

For fucks sake - How much does it cost to go to the movies for 90 minutes ??? !!!
$15 would get you 2 beers in a pub in Wellington on a Friday night (and not even a flash one)
How much does it cost to get into an NPC rugby game for a couple of hours entertainment ?

As Mr Nike would say "Just do it" !!!!

Nicely put into perspective. I thought it was well worth $15 for the weekend. Free Posters in the pits - great racing.

Come on - whats with all the standard New Zealand whinging and negativity - time we all get over it and get out the and support these events - If we dont, they wont run them - simple.

If the racing is anything like last year's Puke Nat's it's worth more than $15 for the Sunday alone...there could have only been 3 Superbikes that day (so long as they were piloted by Bugden, Shirriffs and Jones) and that class alone would have been worth it to watch...nut case Jones getting sideways at 240+ entering Jennian while Shirriffs is sticking his nose around the outside and they're both up Bugden's arse...like Wharfy says, the $15 alternatives don't come close.

I think you forgot about mr stroud...

But yes. last weekend the supers only had 8 bikes but the top 4 were all dicing for positions lap after lap. Some of the best racing I've seen for a while. Was the same at teretonga. The 600's have more numbers (over 15 iirc) but racing wasn't as good because jones and smith were at the front and only one pass in the whole race. Sidecars last weekend were actually one of the best races, that and 125's. If only I was there, stupid broken bones :angry2:

haha while i complain i still went. i just felt it was rude. the arguments not on the racing (it was pretty good, outside the dicey weathewr 2nd race time). its on whether its worth 15 bucks over club meets.

Which 125 binned??

Yeah Jay Lawrence had a huge crash, rear end slide through pothole and highsided into the dirt. Bad place to crash too, no one around to help him, some guy jumped the fence to get to him, he was wearing a Conti T shirt so maybe pit crew or something, but no marshalls in sight anywhere. Red flagged the race, he eventually got up and walked in ambo. Reported broken collarbone I think.

gav
25th January 2009, 18:47
They also announced over the PA free tee shirts at his stand, this was later followed up with a plea to return the Conti tyres from the display, as only the tee shirts were free! :innocent:
Think they got them all back! :done:

U know it comments like this that really fark me off!!!!!!!

Listen to this and understand this...
As a marshall We are not allowed to go untill we are given the go ahead!
Trust me when I say this, we (and I speak for all of them more than likely) are chomping at the bit to go, we dearly want to run out there and give any assistance we can but we are not allowed to! We have to wait untill either the red flag comes out or we get the go ahead!

Mate if you'd heard the radio chatter when he went in, plus all the others over the 3 days that needed the ambo on course, all of them The marshalls were screaming to go out and help (I know I was and I was no where near it).
For the others that I was involved in (3) that needed the ambo, yeah I'm running and shortning the distance between me and them, each time waiting, watching, praying for a red flag or the approval real fast, especially if they ain't movein, my legs are going like hell to get to them. We want to jump in and help, that's our job!

You ask any marshall and I am sure all would go out the moment a rider is down, raceing and all still going. We'd get in a power of shit if we did it though!
I know if it was life threatning, say fire / rider trapped then hell I'd just run like hell (most would I'd say) who cares about getting in the shit then!

The bloke who jumped the fence I think was / is know to the cantab club and is a motard rider? not too sure.

i caused it, broke ribs, elbow and scaphoid

Understand your work man, maybe its the layout of the track that's to blame?
No obvious flag being waved from the station beside (is it) Castrol Straight (?)
I was on the bank and he crashed and lay not far from a number of us, a number of the public were waving arms, hats, programmes etc to try and warn riders as they didnt appear to be getting a flag from anyone?
Maybe you need more marshalls?
Never a good look seeing a rider lay prone.
It is a tricky corner and never fun running off there.

I not sure if it appropriate for me to comment about this in a public forum but here's what happened....

Pt 2 had yellow out and comms of it before the dust had settled (that's what woke us up to it), coms were coming in from 2, 3 and 4 re rider down and his status.
It's the moments from this point to a red or the approval that seems to take (in my opinion) a life time.

Trust me when I say this, we dearly want to run, limp, hobble like mad out to a fallen rider. Remember some of the guys have been there and done that, got the tee shirt and wear the battle scars to prove it.
Some of the shit we see, you wouldn't want to see.
I look at it like this, what happens on the track stays on the track. I for one will do what ever I can to assist any fellow fallen rider, period! (most feel the same as I do)
