Well here goes, first attempt at properly planning a ride :sunny:

I have been eager to 'get over' Gentle Annie after stories from Yod and Bonez. Whilst it may be different for a girlie rider :innocent: I am sure SK1PY will be up to the task of a few k's of gravel. I hear the views are spectacular and a new road is always an adventure :2thumbsup:

1st of Feb seems to suit the brave (some say stupid) amongst us. Time to be confirmed but thinking 10ish so not too unsociable but plenty of time :sunny:

Ashurst,Cheltenham, Pemberton across to Ohingaiti to warm us up and quick refreshment stop in Taihape:drool:

Out of Taihape and left towards Moawhango, Kuripapango, Waiware, Sherenden and Omahu.

Recovery refreshments in Napier and then sh2 or 50 home depending on how all feel. Or else let Bonez take us on a tour.

There is 30 odd k's of gravel and good views so this is not a max number of k's per hr or best petrol consumption ride

Advice, suggestions etc welcome

30 km of gravel need to buy a DR 650,could be a good escapade.

Took my boy up for work couple of weeks ago, lots of dust , still getting it out of wagon , vehicles coming other way left long dust trails to go thru, but I would have no problem riding the road

The Bandit will do fine - took my K2 over there years ago...

Might be nice if someone can jump in here and update us on the state of the gravel at the mo'. If it's in pretty good nick then maybe the Connie might tag along...

I wish I could join you for this, but that's not a free weekend for me. :(

Best advice is take it easy! I binned on that road at about 20km/h and earned a twisted left mirror, faint scratch on the exhaust and almost starting a forest fire with my pipes almost touching off some dry grass

Watch out for deep groves caused by cagers as that's how I got caught out.

Not sure how many years ago for you but I did it last year and there was some construction on the side of the road (widening I think) and the sealed sections I hit were pretty smooth so may be slippery in wet weather, plus they were very narrow so watch out for 4WD cagers.

Or get the wife to clean it,afterall they sit on the back:scooter:(we are good letting em out of the kitchen eh)so that is the cost for that priviledge a nice clean bike.:bash:

86 rode :ride: it last weekend on the way back from Turangi. Based on his detailed description (he may find time to post it eventually:lol:) we may be better going from Hastings to Taihape. I am happy either way, will always do the reverse some other time :sunny:

Aim for 10 ish at Ashurst, anybody who wants to just do the road stuff and find their way back without the old Hondas welcome too:ride:

Decide on direction in the morning?

Weather packing a sad :weep:
May be better over the other side or by 10 am. Not sure the views will be 'stunning' today.
Be nice to know if any better in Napier:yes:
Ashurst at 10am whatever the weather, going for a ride:ride:
Specially as I bumped a hard night on the town to be bright eyed and bushy-tailed

Furrrrk'n good ride. I'll let Sarah do the scribing.

Needless to say mediocrity, in the form of Gerble, traversed the Annie once again without any hiccup.

Good ride and Great company, thanks folks. The 10 doesn't make a bad adventure bike. Bloody near run out of gas, Ongaonga 14.48L in to dented 15 Liter tank. turned off Woodville 5.30, home by 8.00, rain 8.15.

Great road isn't it! I did it last weekend and loved the gravel. The Tiger devoured it for breakfast, even had a few slides going toward the end. Seems Sarah has a few more dirty rides in mind, watch this space ;)

I ended up leading the other two astray. Thought it would be rude not to ;).

I was in Foxton all day. Grey, hazy, and blowing a gale. Really soul-sucking weather - I don't mind rain, but wind gets to me. Glad it was nicer for the ride.

Had quick turn around at Taradale pickup and then stayed on H/way 50 to Kart track. There just before 4.00 so didn't go past Henderson Rd. Buckets were packed up and gone, so headed south on 50. Never been thru there but defiantly best way to Napier, for me now. My bad, should have laid out my little diversion clearer earlier.

Probably the best time for you to part company as if you stayed for the Bonez tour it would have been more like 10pm before you got home.

Can't say my bike made a good adventure machine those axle tramp ripples where not fun to ride and I swear that was more like 50ks of gravel not 27 as signposted.

Good ride on the sealed stuff anyway so that made up for it.

Now the important question _STAIN_- Did you get an icecream?

Well by my fuel stop at Ongaonga 4.30. I was over the icecream thing and more interested in a drink, since last one was in Taihape. Although I did glance at the freezer before I bought the drink and pie :)

Umm... when I hit SH2 there was a sneaking feeling I may have been in front of you's.
Think the 27k sign was a Rangitikei one, they didn't mention the gravel bit in the other district.
Magic road once we hit the seal Hasting side.

Will get onto a proper report later this arvo:clap: I had a few hiccups with the laptop so that interfered with me getting to it sooner :crybaby:

Have a few pics, didn't stop at all the views as the entourage worried if the SK1PY stopped, especially after the near oops on the grass

Most impressed that you made it to us by 10am to come ride Annie with us. Hope to see you on some more Manwatu adventures:ride:

The bonez bonus and beers were perfect:pint: and you got stunning company the whole time, what more could you want

Well I know Tui brewery bring shut was a little of a disappointment but you can't have everything :sunny:

Ok so you need softer suspension, it was a bit of a bone rattler in places but that's part of the fun. The slightly pained look when we stopped halfway did make me offer to swap bikes but probably good we didn't with the slick front tyre on the GSVR

 Sorry had a few technical problems this week but when I get back from Coro on Tuesday I shall get right onto it.

Can you put your thinking cap on for a taste of the local riding:2thumbsup: Hope to get bruv out on the beast, either friday night or saturday if they get held up sightseeing  We can then have a bbq at home for all who are adventurous afterwards. May be a maze through the grass if I don't get out there very very soon

Also have a newbie from south america who needs to get out with the group to get some tips and confidence. Spent this morning getting her in some decent gear

Hope you and connie ok

Due to severe technical probs the pics are delayed. I am sure that the ones from the week before will keep you amused and I promise this weekend I will finally get the ones of the three musketeers and Sk1Py posted:yes:

I accept the tardiness is just not good enough. Better next time:yes:
