I was staring out my office window at work yesterday, looking at the Ruahine Range, wishing I was somewhere else (as you do on a friday afternoon), when I thought 'bugger it'. I'm going for a ride this weekend. Now her indoors wasn't going to like this. This would have to be an early start.
Up at 5am this morning, hit the road at 5.30. Takapari Road by 6.30. Eating breakfast at the top by 7am. Home by 10am. Everyone happy.
1. Here we go
2. Couple of little hills in the distance
3. Nice spot to have breakfast
4. Ditto
5. Wow
6. Wow again

7. Wow
8. Quite a way south of the A-frame hut. I had a minor oops, and realised this was not the place for playing silly buggers, so turned back (it's a wee bit steeper than it looks, honest).
9. These tracks go for miles
10. Wow
11. The A-frame hut
12. More Wow
What a place.

I rode past Takapari Rd this afternoon - but it was too hot to contemplate riding up - plus I was knackered (come from Hastings via Taihape and Apiti

I was going to post it up, but it was a bit short notice, and I thought no one else would be crazy enough for a 5am start. I'll give you a yell next time. I hope to have another go before the RRRR.
Cheers,
Bart

Great pics. Been years since I've been up there and I don't think either of my bikes would make it up there...

Why thank you. Its a good day when your 'employer' takes $85K out of your payslip....but does nothing 'bout your rates/power/staff wages/fertilizer/etc bills!!
Never mind, most folk are happy to see farmers suffer a little>>>>had it too good for too long I belive is the common misconception!
So, wifey and I will not be taking the KT to oz for a couple of months touring this comming dry now.
Get over it!:weep:
