Hey where's his helmet?!?!

The joys of being American. The only helmet you need is the one in your pants.

Safety in USA is personal responsiblity not some dumb politican holding your hand telling you what to do.(when to wipe your arse)

NZ does not allow you to use your own bloody brain, big brother will do all your thinking for you.

The dumb arses you read about in your daily papers is the result.

Lucky old us! John. (:brick: Rant over)

In the back of the latest Bike Rider mag is a chap with a hubless chopper. Mentions the use of an enormous helicopter bearing. A nylon wheel is driven by the motor and pressed against the wheel. Same wheel used for the braking.

Not my cup of tea as bike to ride but one that you can obviously appreciate for the engineering and hours that have gone to create it.

in related news, in the latest cycle World there is a custom 'Busa with clear plastic wheels.

http://www.cycleworld.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=716

the clear wheels came from http://www.metalsportwheels.com/

and are (get this) $12 000 USD a pair.

seems sensible.

Would this make the centre of gravity shitloads lower?

HenryDorsetCase

Not sure, but I think it might allow stops from 60kph in 1.5 metres.

Technically it's just an enlarged hollow hub bike. Hubless use a few rollers etc to avoid having a bearing concentric with the wheel axis (hub). It does look mint regardless though.

that gearing ratio on the rear - it would be a Wheelie Beast!

No, well maybe a little more, but the "front" sprocket here is proportionally bigger too, so the final drive ratio remains the same and the "wheelie"ness of the bike remains the same too.

Wasn't/isn't there a hydraulic powered hubless 'sports-ish' style bike being built in some ones garage (overseas)? Pretty sure I've seen it on here.

The aesthetics of a Hubless bike are admittedly growing on me - however does anyone have any input on how the extra Mass near the edge of the wheel affects handling?

Where to start? You could have used Swoop's spare apostrophe in that "I've". Then again that might have caused him to have an aneurysm. (As opposed to an anuerysm?)

Only mentioned these since we seem to be momentarily picky.:bleh:

Handling? Extra mass near the edge of the wheel is the least of the handling issues ...

A bloke called Sbarro did a series of hubless bikes many years ago, might even have been the first, and I'm pretty sure one of them was hydraulic. More a design exercise at the time.

Don't remember this. Caption time?

Da Fuq is that?!?

It looks like someone took an Acid trip after watching TRON too many times, whilst playing with CAD software....

Everyone knows side-hack racers are nuts but this one needs committing...
