Intercom to rent?

I am planning a bike tour around the South Island and was hoping to use an intercom set to chat with my friend.

They seem quite expensive for a one-off trip. Does anyone know where I could rent a VOX activated one for a few weeks?

Don't know where you can rent, perhaps borrow from a friend, but cheap setups will probably set you back less than $300 for 2?

Don't use VOX, it sounds cool, but imagine the wind noise setting it off... ie, permanently opening the channel, and your friend can't tell you, as you are using the channel.
