If a biker wants to ride at breakneck speeds everywhere good on them thats their choice. But the wankers that for whatever reason choose to pass others ,cars and bikes, with less than a foot gap are really starting to fuck me off. This shit is happening even when the other lane is is clear. Can someone tell me what the point is?. Usaully they approach at such a speed from behind that they havent been noticed in the mirrors yet, one small swerve by me within MY riding space and its all over for both of us. The next one to do that shit around me might just find themselves flat on their back when i catch up to them at the next intersection.
When you choose to ride like a cock just remember , every action has a positive and negative reaction.

Actually its "every action there is always opposed an equal reaction" nothing about it being a positive and negative - that just dosnt make sense.

drives me nuts as well.
partner and i had just got into bulls, heading north. we were just before the hill, with traffic on both sides of the road. susan notices a bike in her mirror and tells me look at this wanker. i cant see anything but cars from my side, and asked what she was on about. by the time i got that out, said wanker had passed us and the traffic behind us, basically on the white line. jerk off couldnt wait, what? a k or so? before hitting the open road and a passing lane.

had a goldwing do that a little over a year ago. my bike got blown over and snapped the right mirror off. i was heading north of wellington, and a goldwing, which, of course, i didnt hear coming, passed me well within my lane [which was the left hand one] while the right lane remained empty. got such a fright i damn near fell off the bike. if hed been in the other lane, it wouldnt have given me such a fright. but now i know why they have such loud stereos...

how about if you're driving a car, don't talk on your phone, or hog the centreline at 95km/h, then you'll 1, have a better chance of having some SA and 2, give other road users some room to pass

Positve = said bike makes his pass and speeds off on his way
Negative = When i catch up to him i knock him off his bike for been riding like a cock around me.
Does that make betterer sense ?

They probly cant be f@#ked indicating to change lanes and feel its less illegal to speed past if they just stay in the left lane. Ive got nothing against speeding, but theres a time and place eh

And there, ladies and gentlemen, is the entire ethos of Kiwi motoring in a nutshell. Perfectly put cowpoos

As a nation we are a collective bunch of tut-tutting old nanas.

Give us an audience or forum in which we can blather on about the motoring habits of our fellow citizens and we will get stuck in with a zeal that would make Genghis Kahn blush.

I lane split. Not in light traffic that's moving at the posted speed limit - that's unnecessary. If traffic is slow moving i.e. on the motorway - then I split. I am respectful of other road users and try to give as much space as possible. It goes both ways though, there are the riders who are trying to do a 'public good' by blocking the lane by riding as close as they can to the centreline when they could just as well ride wholly within their lane and make it safer to pass.

Why the fuck shouldn't we have the right to condemn other motorcyclists who impose themselves upon our safety zone?

After all, isn't that exactly what all motorcyclists seem to do when it's a car driver that does the same thing?

Some have paid the ultimate penalty for riding with 'only themselves' in mind.

Katman
26th January 2009, 16:17
While, of course, it's essential to be aware of what is happening behind you, it's a fact that by far the greatest risk to motorcyclists (in theory) exists within the 150 degree arc in front of you and that is where the majority of your attention should be focused.

Motorcycles approaching from behind at twice the speed of the vehicle in front can seemingly appear out of nowhere.

If we think that New Zealanders, generally speaking, have a poor attitude towards their driving habits, exactly the same could (and should) be said about the riding habits of New Zealand motorcyclists.

One day you are going to put forth an argument without recourse to swearing - I doubt I'll live long enough.

Condemnation of other motorists (lets not confine ourselves just to motorcyclists) is far less effective than simply working on improving our own road manners and skills.
Its not a right to condemn BTW - its a right to speak. Those that choose to exercise their right only in the pursuit of condemnation would seem only to increase the likelihood of the onset of ulcers.

I get sprotsbikes whommmmping past me every day - often on one wheel (which just looks childish btw). The biggest lesson I take out of it is to constantly work on improving my situational awareness to 360 degrees. I empathise completely with the OP and if, on one day of karmic restoration, I actually find myself able to come across the riders in question I may be even more unrestrained in my remonstration (you bring out the mulit-syllabic in me Katman).

The intent of my post was to point out the glass walls of these discussions and perhaps get some actual debate going rather than polarised argument.

I realise that may be a novel concept for ya. :calm:

Have had a similar thing happen to me, but by another biker. Three of us riding together, I was in front and overtook 3-4 cars (Ngatea Str8's) the other two came with me, I pull back in and get over to the left of my lane (give the others room if they need it) when on my left, I see one of the bikes undertaking me. I told him at the next stop ''dont ever fucken' do that again''. Dont think I have been riding with him since, eliminate the dickheads.

I had the exact same thing happen to me a while back on the road between Kawakawa bay and Kaiaua. I told the guy in question to either lead from the start or wait 'til I wave him through 'cos he scared the crap outta me and I nearly took the both of us out.

He didn't like hearing it but, to his credit, he took it on board and our whole group has noticed that he's riding more politely in the pack.

It was a real win, we still ride together and have the odd beer together and maybe we're all just a little bit safer.

We've got the 'right' to do quite a lot of things but every now and then it would be better for all concerned not to be quite so vehement about exercising all our rights. Makes for getting on with each other better.

(I do appreciate that is stating the obvious...)

If wrongs can be righted (is that a word?) then all good.

Funny I was just thinking this the other day. I get a lot of other bikes always trying to drag race me cause I'm on a V-Max, even if I'm just going to the dairy to get some bread.
